NHL 13 News Post

The official EA Sports NHL Playoff Prediction is in, and it has the New York Rangers beating the Chicago Blackhawks in six games in the Stanley Cup Finals for their fifth Stanley Cup in franchise history.

The simulation had Rangers forward Brad Richards winning the Conn Smythe Trophy, which would be the second of his career. Richards had 24 points in the playoffs to lead all players in the simulation.

The Blackhawks won each series in the west in five games, amassing a 12-3 playoff record before falling to New York. The Western Conference also saw two major upsets with the Red Wings beating the Ducks and the Kings beating the Blues to open things up. The Maple Leafs were eliminated in the first round, but they did take the Bruins to seven games. The Eastern Conference Semifinals between the Penguins and the Rangers was a classic, going the full seven games.

For more information on the simulation, be sure to visit the official EA Sports NHL site.

The sad thing is Vokoun is showing how to play net for a great team. All he has to do is control his rebounds and make the saves he should. I know it's not easy at the NHL level, but for these goalies it should be. They got there for a reason. Crawford is doing a good job at that right now for the Hawks. He's made basically every save he should with exception of Clutterbucks goal in game 1 of the Wild series.

Anyway IMO Lundqvist still has a way to go this playoffs to prove to me how good he is. He won round 1 for them, but he has to carry his team for a full playoffs before he wins me over. He doesn't have to win a cup, but I want to see if he alone can carry his team to the cup finals. I like him as a goalie but I still want to see more from him before I consider him in the same class as the elites.

Who really has carried their team for a full playoffs? Quick carried his team during the regular season, but that offense came alive and watching them play in the playoffs looked like they were playing AHL teams. Tim Thomas will forever to me be overrated, as he would just flop around and his incredible defense would sweep away the juicy rebounds. Niemi just got hot in one season and had a decent statistical postseason, and I think we all know what the deal is with Fleury.

Has Henrik proven himself as an elite playoff goaltender? No. But it's very rare that a goaltender actually singlehandedly leads his team to the final.

Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur, arguably Mike Richter, Dominic Hasek (98 Sabres), JS Giguere (03 Ducks), Johnathan Quick (he's about to again IMO), Cam Ward (06 Canes), John Vanbiesbrouk (95 Panthers), Dwayne Roloson (06 Oilers), Mikka Kiprusoff (04 Flames). There's even a couple guys who are on the border line. Honestly I don't think it's rare at all. I'd say just under the majority of the past 15-20 years, one team in the cup is there due to the goalie completely carrying his team. Guys like Roy and Brodeur did it multiple times, but obviously those two are on a different planet. In this day and age it's almost a must that you have a goalie who can steal a teams way to the cup.

Last year I fully believe Johnathan Quick did steal the Kings way to the cup. Yes they started scoring, but it was because they knew Quick was behind them. They were able to open up their offense. The Canucks series last year proved that. Quick faced multiple odd man rushes every game of that series. Odd man rushes happen because a team has opened up their offense and is taking chances.

Annd, a pair of weeks later... Wheres Fleury hahah- But seriously, the Rangers need to get in gear if they want to beat the Bruins.

Well the second round is almost over and Vokoun is still in net for the Pens. I love how the Pens defense has stepped it up in front of him. It should really tick off Fleury. And notice what happens in the games the defense failed Vokoun. They lost and Vokoun looked soft. Notice a pattern?

I'm using the Rangers on NHL 13, I've won the Cup 3 times in 5 seasons, playing my 6th season now. I've overhauled the Rangers roster quite a bit, via trades, free agency, the draft etc. It's such a great off-the-ice in-depth franchise. I love BE A GM mode :-)
