Madden NFL 25 News Post

Today ESPN SportsNation announced that Barry Sanders will face Adrian Peterson in the final round of the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote. The stage is set for an epic showdown as two of the greatest running backs of all time square-off. Voting highlights from the semifinals include:
  • 1 million votes cast for the semifinals, 50K more than last year’s vote totals for the semifinals. Over 38 million votes cast overall in the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote.
  • Adrian Peterson posted the largest margin victory, with 68% of the vote against Arian Foster.
  • Barry Sanders won with a slim margin victory defeating Jerry Rice, 52% to 48%.
It’s all too fitting that the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote Finals come down to Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson, two of the greatest running backs in NFL history. Sanders has cemented his place in NFL history with his 18,000 career yards, while Peterson came within nine yards of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record last year. Making the feat even more impressive, Peterson had his incredible year after coming back from surgery for a torn ACL in the offseason.

Fans are invited to cast their votes at ESPN.com/MaddenVote through their PC or mobile devices. For the chance to “Maximize” votes, ESPN and Madden NFL 25 have collaborated with Pepsi MAX to promote Twitter live voting every Tuesday throughout the campaign, where tweets with each player’s respective Cover Vote hashtag will count as two votes. Double votes ends at midnight ET each Tuesday.

The winner of the Madden NFL 25 Cover Vote will be revealed live on ESPN SportsNation at 8 pm EST on Wednesday, April 24.

What do you all think? Seems convenient that a year EA Football seems to be focusing on the running game that you get a championship matchup of Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders.

Let's go Sanders

Barry Sanders! If Madden is celebrating 25 years it needs to the greatest running back ever! To bad he left the game in his prime!

I think Pat Summerall needs to somehow be squeezed in the cover. RIP, Mr. Summerall!

I don't get it I voted for Adrian Peterson. Nothing against Barry Sanders but I guess we like dazzle without payoff. If this was NCAA yes Barry but NFL how did he get pass Jerry Rice and Joe Montana.

because it's fixed at the end of the day and they want to promote their new freestyle running feature. What better way to do that then have a RB grace the cover.

I would really like to see a dual cover again. They will announce a tie

The same claims would have been made no matter who was in the finals. If it was fixed Hillis wouldn't have ever been on the cover.

I don't understand people not liking Barry Sanders. Just because he doesn't have a ring or winning record, he is still the most talented elusive back of all time. AP is in a close second and depending on how the rest of his years go, may even surpass Barry. I still want AP on cover over Barry though.

The big thing about Barry is that if he did not walk away from the game like Jim Brown did he would be your alltime leading rusher for running backs. But of course I am biased being from Detroit. But I do agree with you how he got passed Joe and Rice absolutely floored me. Heck they could have put both of those guys on the cover. But I would be shocked if they put a Detroit Lion on the cover back to back and to be honest I hate to say it but they just don't derserve it as a franchise. I would have rather seen a Red Wing on the cover of hockey but I do like Barry a lot he was the best running back I ever saw so far.

They should just put both on the cover if AP wins this it will be anticlimax. I think the result are fudged I don't see Hillis situation happening again.

His early retirement actually cemented his legendary status. People wanted more than he gave and still ask him why he did it all these years later. I am not surprised that he is in the finals.

Montana, Rice, even Sanders all played until you could see they were actually mere mortals. Barry left in his prime and that creates a certain longing all by itself.

I would rather have E. Smith any day and twice on Sunday.

Smith is the only running back to ever win a Super Bowl championship, the NFL Most Valuable Player award, the NFL rushing crown, and the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award all in the same season (1993). He is also one of only four running backs to lead the NFL in rushing three or more consecutive seasons, joining Steve Van Buren, Jim Brown and Earl Campbell. Smith led the league in rushing and won the Super Bowl in the same year three times (1992, 1993, and 1995) when to that point it had never been done. Smith is also one of only two non-kickers in NFL history to score more than 1,000 career points (the other being Jerry Rice).

That's nice but it's not what any of this is about. It's not the best player ever on the cover, just as March Madness isn't about the best team in March. It's about the best from each bracket. In this case, Sanders only had to be better than Rice, Montana, Ray Lewis, Marcus Allen and Ron Rivera while Peterson just needed to be better than RG3, Foster, Gronk, LeSean McCoy and Palmer.

I guess they had Peterson beat Foster after showing Foster in the initial press photos to throw off the conspiracy guys.

if you remember seeing barry you'll love him. everyone loved barry if he ate your team up it was cool cause that was barry. I voted for barry i hope he gets it

Second year in a row I'm going to have to buy a game with a rival player on the cover.

So not cool. I miss the days of Peyton Hillis.

Just put Barry on the cover. It's an anniversary Madden, makes sense to have a legend on it. Either way I don't really care and I'll continue to refuse to believe it's not a completely fixed marketing ploy.

Tongue in cheek here....

I'm beginning to think the cover voting is about as authentic as Madden gameplay. lol

I believe IF your going to represent the last 25 years it should be the greatest.

In my opinion Rice was the clear choice for that aspect.

I do not believe Sanders is the best choice for that and as such is not the person whom should break the current athlete in their prime covers. Madden should focus on the current performers and AP who lets not forget nearly broke the season rushing record thats insane!

I meant to say, I prefer Barry Sannders. He was the greatest rb I ever seen during my life time. I used to wish my former Cowboys would trade Emmitt for him especially since the Boys back then had the crazy O-line. Emmitt wasn't that good to me and if he had Sanders' Detroit O-line, Emmitt's career would have been garbage and ended early.

That being said, AP may help move more units by being on the cover and he may be the second greatest rb I've ever seen who played during my lifetime.
