WWE 2K14 News Post

According to WWE's EVP, Stephanie McMahon, The Rock will be featured on the cover of WWE 2K14.

No release date or specific consoles supporting the game have been announced yet. FYI: WWE 13 was released on October 30th, 2012.

In late February, 2K and WWE entered into an exclusive multi-year agreement granting 2K the exclusive worldwide rights to publish the WWE video game franchise across all major platforms and distribution channels. The series, which will continue to be developed by Yukes in Japan, will combine the studio’s gameplay with 2K’s commitment to authenticity in WWE ’14.

Does it really matter who is on the cover?

You can try to protect it as your opinion, but it's not an opinion that Michael Jordan on the cover of the game as opposed to Garnett is a better move, it's a fact.
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. So basically, you're saying I can't have an opinion? From my perspective, as a fan, I think it's a huge downgrade. We go from a guy that I think is currently the best wrestler in the world to a guy that I wish would just go back to making movies. Is it going to influence whether or not I buy it? Absolutely not. From a business perspective, it's a great move. I'm sure there are a lot of casual fans that might buy it seeing The Rock's face as opposed to seeing Dolph Ziggler, The Shield, CM Punk, John Cena, etc on the cover. That doesn't mean I have to like it. It's another one of those scenarios where I fit into the crowd that is the minority. But just because I'm in the minority doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it.

When it comes to sales, it probably does. I think putting anyone from the Attitude Era on the cover is going to boost sales with casual fans that may no longer even watch the product. As I said, The Rock on the cover is a great business move.

Like he's not just going to sign another contract lol. He's already scheduled for next years Mania.

Regardless I can't possibly see how some of you guys are actually serious. Do you guys buy the game for the game or the cover? Serious question.

I can't lie, I'll be buying this game day 1. There's so much potential with 2K having input now and eventually taking over. My expectations for commentary are pretty high. But since the rock is on the cover, I'll be picking it up that Tuesday. NOT at midnight release!!!

Yeah this is a really good business decision, I like but like others doesn't matter to me who is on the cover, wonder if this means he will win tonight and keep the belt a little longer. Would imagine they would want him as the champ on it....hard to imagine a wrestling game for WWE and one of the top guys who is wearing the title not on the cover. What would that say about your champ? I just can't imagine Cena or Punk holding the title and not being on the cover.

Also as far as Yukes still doing the game read that 2k will be working with Yukes and there will be a transition to just 2k over the next few years. One thing I hope 2k does for this year is at least make the commentary better. That alone will be a big improvement and a step in the right direction. Maybe they can do a little graphic improvement?

It does and doesn't. Will the game play better or worse because of who is on the cover? Of course not. However are you likely to gain more sales with Hornswoggle on the cover or John Cena? The Rock or The Miz? It's about marketing and having something to grab a person's attention. Same when you go to the grocery store. At the ends of the aisle and in prime locations throughout the store does it matter if you put sale items or regular priced items there? Yes and no. You can put anything anywhere in the store and probably still sell it, but you want the items you're featuring right there available for customers to be seen so that things they may not have bought otherwise are right there in their faces.

Which brings me to this. I didn't say you can't have an opinion or that you have to like the decision. However don't try to disguise yourself being wrong about something as your opinion. There is greater potential for sales by having The Rock on the cover of the game while you have him apart of your company. To say that him on the cover of the game is a downgrade from a lesser star is factually incorrect. You can be of the opinion that 2 + 2= 25 that doesn't make it okay that you're wrong because it's your opinion that the correct answer should be 25. Factually it is incorrect that putting one of the biggest stars in the world on the cover of your product in favor of someone who wouldn't even crack the celebrity D list is a downgrade.

If by downgrade he means visually/aesthetically, then I could understand better; even though we literally have no way of comparing the 2k14 Rock cover to the WWE13 Punk cover. But I think he means a downgrade conceptually from CM to Rock, which also amuses me.

Has it always been a big deal who's on the cover? Idk why they don't just put five or six people on there like they used to at times.

# 33 TripleCrown9 @ 04/07/13 04:45 PM
I don't care who's on the cover. If 2K updates models like they *sometimes* do in NBA, then I'm buying it.

I don't know why this is such a hard concept for you guys to understand. To me, having The Rock on the cover is a huge downgrade. I'm not saying it's a downgrade business-wise (because it's not). I'm saying it's a downgrade since I really can't stand The Rock and how the WWE is spotlighting everything on him. The far more talented guys in locker room that I would like to see on the cover such as Dolph Ziggler, The Shield, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow, Kofi Kingston, and among others.

I think it's a downgrade in terms of the focal point of WWE's brand. I'd much rather them focus on the young talent that is busting their *** everyday out of the year than on a part time guy that has been taking the spotlight away from the younger guys. I'd much rather see John Cena on the cover. At least you can turn on WWE programming and see him on it every week.

I'm not saying it's a downgrade for 2K or WWE. There's no factual basis for what I'm saying. To you, it could be an upgrade. To me it could be a downgrade. This isn't a complicated idea. I don't have to like the cover. I doubt everyone is going to like this year's NCAA Football cover. I doubt everyone is going to agree whether or not the cover athlete is an upgrade or downgrade. I don't think there's any factual basis to it unless you look purely at sales.

I found this post hilarious.

Having the rock on the cover is a good idea, he's still active (for the most part) and he's a face people reconize. I own wwe 13 and I will buy 2k14. I enjoy 13 very much but their are still so many things wrong with the game that I'm hoping 2k can help fix. I'm at least optimistic about 2k14.

# 37 Gramps91 @ 04/08/13 01:17 PM
doesn't excite me as far as who's on the cover. (would prefer someone who's there most of the time)

I really hope a change in Publisher does something for this series. I haven't enjoyed one immensely for some time. I mean the recent ones are ok but not great.

I'll be very interested to see what they list as a release date. Seems like a tall order to completely remake a game in 8 or 9 months. Luckily I have an epic WWE '13 universe going, with all my WWF/WCW faves from the late 80s and early 90s. It's impossible for the characters to become outdated, and it's actually really fun once the storylines start to develop. Should get me through another boring summer of baseball, and even longer than that if the new game sucks or gets delayed.

I'd like to think things will get better, but as long as Yukes is still the developer, it will still be the same basic game its been for the last decade.

I could care less who's on the cover. There are so many things wrong with WWE '13, especially the Universe Mode(which is where I spend most of my time). I get sick of all the work I have to do for it to actually make it somewhat interesting with cutscenes (let alone not using custom attires pretty much at all). Don't get me started on the 1-count glitch that for some reason never got patched for some bizarre reason. Seriously, WWE '13 has so much stuff there, but it felt rushed and wasn't Beta tested at all or not nearly enough (seriously, how could they not see the one-count glitch in the beta test, if there was one)

I don't expect much difference in terms of the game engine for a few years, until 2K really get their hands on it. I expect things like the menus and stuff to be changed up to the more 2K style and such, but not much in terms of gameplay mechanics. Hopefully, at E3, we will get to see something that resembles legitimate video of the game.
