MLB 2K13 News Post

When Major League Baseball 2K13 was announced in January, the usual questions popped up about the game's ability to produce an experience that would be worth a $60 purchase to gamers.

Thus far, fan response has been rather chilly to the new game, as have gaming critics' reviews. In the build up leading to the release of the game, we were not given many details about what was coming, just a vague fact sheet leading up to release which contained features that were already in the franchise. Worse yet, Online Leagues were removed from the game with no announcement from 2K Sports.

Currently, MLB 2K13 is scoring an average of 48 on Metacritic, with our review similarly harsh on the game.

My Press Row Podcast Co-Host Mike Suzek had this to say in his review on Joystiq in summation of the game: "It's as much a shame on 2K Sports for releasing this game as it is for the MLB to carelessly stamp its name on it. Whether it was sheer apathy or contractual licensing obligations that caused MLB 2K13 to exist in this state, it certainly wasn't a love for baseball, sports games, or its fans."

Our own Dustin Toms concluded, "MLB 2K13 is not a bad game by any means, but rather this is more about the principle of the matter. When a company charges $60 for a game with little improvements over a release a year earlier, something has gone terribly wrong. Attaching a $60 price tag to this game is nonsense."

This, of course, leaves important questions to be answered as we move through this year's sports gaming release season. Will 2K Sports be releasing a game next year or will we find out that another company such as EA Sports has plans to develop baseball games to take MLB 2K's place?

But who knows. If they do a worldwide, it would be a first for them.
Believe this will be the first year they will have a "worldwide" release. I seriously doubt Sony will not release a console this year in the US knowing Microsoft will.

That would be great news if they do!

I completely understand why people would be pissed off at 2k13. It is literally a team move and a roster update. I just downloaded a roster from 2k12 and use that and I pretty much have MLB 2k13! I hope they can make MLB 2K14 worthy of a purchase.

I got it for the Show this year which I haven't played in a week, it does work well as kind of a media-player computer for your TV. You can't really browse the internet well on it, or compose emails well on it like a computer, but it's cool for Netflix, music, dvds and blurays.

I found that alone justified the purchase.

It was going civilized until this. And 2K is not just limited to the 360, do speculative talk about the PS4 and it's potential release date should not be an issue.

After all, it is a "negative reviews" thread.

Yet no trolling has been happening.

I am confused. Are people now starting to make issues now that there is nothing left to talk about in here?

Yeah guys, any mention of The Show needs to not happen in the MLB 2K forum. Take any The Show talk to The Show's forum, and take comparison talk to the Other Baseball forum.

We'll be getting back on-topic of MLB 2K starting right now. Thanks!

Having played both 2K12 and 2K13, I decided to return 13 and keep 12. The changes in 13 are subtle, and wasn't worth the effort. 2K13 stole money from us for a roster update (still with outdated photos) and some of the things I read in the review that were "fixed" - I found they were STILL BROKEN. What I think happened is the reviewers spent about an hour with the game and came to their conclusions. Yet I played this game for two weeks and the further I played and dug into this game, the more those old issues reared their ugly heads. With all we've done here to keep 2K12 alive, and the fact that I'm getting pounded with thank-you notes in my Live account for having updated rosters, the more I'm seeing people decided they liked 12 better... 2K should just walk away from baseball at this point...
