2K Sports’ top-rated and top-selling basketball simulation experiences 49 percent increase over NBA 2K11

2K Sports today announced franchise record-setting sales of NBA 2K13, the latest iteration in the top-selling and top-rated basketball simulation series*. In its first week of sales, NBA 2K13 sold-through 49 percent more copies than the franchise’s previous fastest-seller, NBA 2K11**. This record-shattering growth is due in part to the expanding global popularity of the NBA 2K brand, which accounted for a 66 percent increase in international sales as compared with NBA 2K11**.

Fans have flocked online to experience NBA 2K13 action with their friends, and the number of online users has more than doubled from last year’s NBA 2K12. In addition, the number of played online games has also grown exponentially, as NBA 2K13 has experienced a 127 percent increase over last year’s totals**.

NBA 2K13, the latest successful launch from the acclaimed basketball franchise, recently received a perfect 10/10 score from PlayStation: The Official Magazine, who said that the game’s improvements “elevates 2K13 beyond mere annual greatness and into hall-of-fame consideration.” NBA 2K13 also received 9.1/10 score from IGN, who declared it “amazing,” and “obviously one of the best hoops games out there.”

“Our early sales figures are a validation of our ongoing efforts to push this franchise to new heights,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We owe it to our great fans to continually improve our title - year in and year out - and that’s exactly what we’ve done with NBA 2K13.”

This year, 2K Sports joined forces with music icon JAY Z, who served as the game’s Executive Producer. JAY Z personally curated the game’s soundtrack and visual feel of the game, and played an instrumental role in securing the 1992 “Dream Team” for this year’s game. NBA 2K13 also introduces the all-new Control Stick, giving players more control than ever before.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, NBA 2K13 is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and is now available for the Xbox 360 ® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system, Wii™ system and Windows PC. The Wii U™ version of the title will be available in North America when the console launches on November 18. It will be available outside of North America around the international console launch on Friday, November 30.

Nba 2k series have come a long way. Congrats to them. I hope another developer can have a respectable sim basketball game soon to keep 2k from feeling themselves too much.

I co-sign. I think this is the first time I have played a NBA2K game for this long, including the demo, and the game, since the demo, hasn't even been out that long!!!

This would literally beat the time I played through the playoffs of the 2K10 game to win the Finals with my Nets and even then, I was mostly playing to "beat the game" not so much as enjoy the ride. Not this time, buddy!!!

This game well deserves the praise and sales. Kudos, a billion times over, 2K/VC!!

Well deserved kudos to the 2K team, 2K13 is stellar imo. I think the implementation of the right-stick controls have come at the right time with many new people being turned on to the game. Also think it was great timing for 2K to bring Jay-Z on. I know some here despise it but for a 1st year effort it's mostly well done and really infuses the game with a certain swagger imo. Every time I think they can't up their game... they do it.

I don't want to 2k sport spends their efforts for NFL game, because they will have less time to polish NBA2k to perfection. And in general to be honest team game without ball handling skills it's only for americans, like NFL and MLB.

Then why the hell are you here? Posts like this kill me. You don't think this post would be more appropriate in the Madden forum or 2K Football forum? Get outta here with this.

Well deserved 2k. I've had so many great games and spectacular plays that made my jaw drop, and it hasn't even been two weeks. The gameplay has exceeded my expectations this year.

Just because it would have the 2k name doesnt mean its the same team. In fact I would be concerned if it was since the NBA guys know their NBA, they may not know the NFL as well as the NBA.

It is a whole lot better than madden and nhl, and 2k owns ea, its a good game, but the show 12 still gets my vote, can't wait to see how awesome mlb 13 the show will be. Sony San Diego has it down. It and 2k13 are def the two best tho.

I'm glad to hear this. This is what happens when a company that strives on innovation can do with a series. 2K keeps coming up with new ideas while EA struggles to come up with ideas and recycle old ideas. If only 2K had the NFL license.
