NBA 2K13 News Post

We have just posted our NBA 2K13 interview with Producer, Rob Jones. Thanks to the OS community for submitting the questions. We'll continue to set these interviews up as new features are announced.

What role will shading ball handlers play regarding help defense, double teams & pick & rolls? Does the AI adjust and shade to a dribblers weak hand? Front a dominant big after too many scores? Sag on the weak side after they decide to front?

Well, shading a ballhandler to the correct area automatically forces that player to attack an area that has the type of help defense you want to play (the rotation). Shading a player on a pick and roll can either mean getting over the pick easier or getting caught out of position if the screen comes from the opposite side. We like the concept of forcing a player to his weak(er) hand, but it is something that is very hard to convey to users, so we have been limiting our focus to forcing the ball handler towards a better help situation.

If so, then that's yet another element of control removed from the consumer's hands. That places even more pressure on 2K to "get it right".

I do standing floaters all the time in 2K12. You have to be in or near the paint, and press the shot button + the left stick away from the basket.

i don't get it. 2k12s dribbling system was awesome. Why didn't they just move all the LT + LS moves and animations to the RS.

I'm pretty sure they have moved all the dribble moves to the right stick in some form, including moves that require the left trigger as a modifier.

As to why they changed the way some moves are done, they want to make the right stick movement as smooth and intuitive as possible. 2K has has always been known for weird fighting game combo commands and they obviously want that negative image to be left behind for a more approachable control method.

Nice Q&A Glad they took the fake pass button off finally and added the hop step button back......like old times!

Hopefullly we still have the dribble package animations and they just incorporate them to the control stick, or else we will have no individualty besides speed and quickness that seperates the look, movement, and style from player to player... i mean personally i would hate for each players individual body language to look exactly the same while handling the ball ( can you just imagine kendrick perkins dribbling the ball just like derrick rose... Fn ridiculous). Hopefully 2k didnt do that to us. Signature style is one of the main features that seperate this game from the other games that we have seen over the years...lets hope thats not what 2k has taken away

Yeah, they definitely need to expand on the control stick and come out with a video that shows the differences between ball handlers using the exact the movements on the stick because there definitely should be.
