WWE '13 Preview (360/PS3)

So onto the reason you’re even reading this article, WWE ’13. The roster has over 80 characters this year. Some are duplicates; there are 3 Triple H’s and 3 Mick Foley’s (Mankind, Dude Love, Cactus Jack) for example. This was a necessary evil for the Attitude Era Mode. The story this year takes place between the years 1997-1999 covering the main section of the era. Since many of the guys on the roster went through gimmick changes during that period, the multiple characters were needed. Triple H has his “Hunter Hearst Helmsley” blueblood gimmick (music and all) ,which then goes into his DX gimmick, which as we know is different than the current Triple H, which is on the main roster. Some may find issue with it, but for crowd pops, moves, music, etc, it was needed.

The Attitude Era mode has 8 different stories, including DX, Steve Austin, Mankind, Undertaker, The Rock, and Bret Hart stories to cover. Over 65 matches to complete the entire mode, and around 20 WWE produced videos to get your blood pumping when the stories begin. The videos are the normal top notch WWE affair that you see every single Monday and Friday night on the programming and like the ones that were in Legends of Wrestlemania and WWE All-Stars. The two I was able to see both blew me away with production value and nostalgia. Also these videos are unlocked to be able to be seen at any later point.

Sounds awesome. Great read Scott. One question, you may or not be able to answer. When you're designing the arena's, can you choose different length of ramps? I know w/ the Mania type venues, normally there's a longer ramp, more epic entrance, etc.

There were no edits for the ramp, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a longer ramp for a larger venue. Didn't see it, I apologize.

Correct, the only true story mode is Attitude Era.

That being said, Universe mode is where you would put your current WWE Superstars, we'll be hearing about that in the coming weeks.

Extreme... Have you heard anything about career mode?

Where I can choose Randy Orton and play thru his career and not have to do all the GM stuff.

You mean like book other matches? There is no mode like that unfortunately. The only story type mode is Attitude Era Mode, there's Universe Mode which won't be revealed for a few weeks. If you played 12 then you know what to expect except with improvements.

Yep I know what you mean.

Just thought I would ask because someone mentioned in another thread that Career mode was being added to WWE Universe.

I haven't seen any proof of it, but that doesn't mean it's not there. I can't imagine Universe will be any different in that regard from last year though.

Similar, improved, but the game is easy to pick up and play, especially if you played WWE '12. I think I was focusing more on the audio than I was the in game engine, just impressive how a match sounds/feels like it does on Monday Night Raw.

Did playing on higher difficulties result in constant reversals from the CPU? Is the CPU AI better?

Good write up Extreme. Love the info we got so far. Looking forward to more info they reveal in the coming weeks. But overall I'm glad to see that we are able to do something with stage now. Can't wait to get my hands on the game this year.

Finally the WWE is paying homage to the "Attitude Era". Mmy favorite WWE game was No Mercy for the N64. Hopefully this game tops it

A lot of the cosmetic stuff sounds fine and all. However, what big for me is what can I do with my CAWs in this version's game? Any info on that, EG? Or that may be involved in Universe Mode, which you don't know much about yet.

Do DX HBK and HHH have their own Individual entrances? (Sexy Boy and My Time). Also do alternate attitude era attires encompass more than one gimmick? Such as DX Triple H having his McMahon/Helmsley era trunks or mankind having his original attires?

So do the choices you make r how you handle things change the ending in story modes?

Are they 6 r 8 story modes choices?
