Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 News Post

And we’re off.

Like the Christmas shopping season, it seems like it gets earlier and earlier every year with football game demos, doesn’t it? Either way, PES leads us off with its first of two demos. Except for those poor North American PSN users, everybody else should have access to it by now. It’s not a bad strategy on Konami’s part: release it early, tempt a few action-starved FIFA fans into giving the game a try, plus get some feedback from the fanbase and make some changes.

So what’s new?

I'm intrigued.
Colors can look a bit muted because they use this blur feature to keep the anti aliasing down between features. Luckily if you have the PC version there are mods that remove this feature.

Sweet - you can do that in the demo?

Is there a way to address this in the demo?

Yup, there are mods for the PC over on evoweb.co.uk, you can use the demo unlocker to play as more teams, more time and etc. And yes you can switch controls to FIFA's style in control settings.

The last time I bought a PES game was Pro Evolution Soccer 5 on the PS2. Every year since I've downloaded the demo and not liked it. I've always felt that PES really didnt transition well to next-gen consoles.

However this year, something's different. The classic PES fluidity is still there, which makes passing the ball about so fun. Your AI team mates make clever runs, allowing you to construct some moves that aren't possible in FIFA 12. If I had a couple of complaints it would be that shooting feels underpowered, or the goalies or overpowered which ever way you spin it. Also, whats with some of the creases in the player' shirts? They're all the same and it feels like the only reason they are there is because "thats what good graphics look like".

That being said, this is a step in the right direction and I feel like, if not next year then the year after that, PES could very well be dominant once agiain.
