Well, I stand corrected on that one... every post but one... although my point still stands in a roundabout way considering he dropped the "petty" shot before hand.

I can agree on the pads but when I first seen the pic, I was just blown by how realistic the pic looked in terms of the look of it.
As for the face mask, I could care less because it's less noticeable when playing the game and most of us could care less if 1 bar at the bottom on the mask is missing. I could see if EA completely came up with some mask not even close but those enormous pads were noticeable from 5miles away and a definite signature for Mr. Lott. GOTTA get those in, EA.

All I am saying is this, For the 100 people that notice this stuff there are a 1000 that don't. Now I do agree they should make things look the way they looked back then and even now with players still playing. But IMO I would rather see them taking that time for gameplay than little things like facemasks and pads. You take the good with tha bad Im atleast happy that these players are in the game. Now I do agree with the sleeves being on QBs because more than 1 player has them.

Now I'd much rather see gameplay too, but they are choosing to show screenshots over it. So, them touting these images comes with people criticizing and some loving it. That's how anything new being released is.

This isn't a gameplay thread, though. This is a thread on the art direction of the game. If this was strictly a gameplay thread and they posted a video of Ronnie Lott lighting someone up across the middle and all anyone harped on was the lack of a facemask, then you might have a point. But that's not what this is. They released a screenshot on their own, readily welcoming the scrutiny. So, I ask again, if people are critiquing the art of the game in a screenshot thread then how does that qualify as "complaining about the little things", when EA themselves sets the bar when it comes to their attention to detail?

As as far as rather having them dedicate more time to gameplay -- that is a wholly valid point that has nothing to do with this thread and it is an old refrain that doesn't hold water this go-round. They doubled the gameplay team for Madden 13, so there is nothing that the art team did that took away from the gameplay and there's nothing that the gameplay team did that's taking away from the art team getting Ronnie Lott's facemask correct.

You know what is funny, everyone in this thread is wrong...

They are making the Legends as they were in their rookie seasons, aside from Reggie White's #.

So Lott should be a CB...and if I remember correctly, not that I was alive, but I've seen the 1981 season highlights quite a bit...

He wore a facemask I don't even think is in Madden. He had the bar going right down the middle...from forehead to chin.

In fact, a quick google search of 1981 Ronnie Lott yielded these 2 pictures, one is a game worn helmet and the other is a Super Bowl picture.

^ I've seen that facemask and I do know that these are supposed to be the players as rookies, but the Madden team took a populist route and made certain concessions to design the legends as people remembered them for the bulk of their career. That's why Reggie White has #92 instead of the #91 that he wore his first year in Philly, and that's why Mike Young dropped this on twitter a few months ago before the Mean Joe photo:

Ok @steelers fans. What # do you want to see on Mean Joe Greene in ‪#connectedcareers‬? His actual rookie #72 or the iconic #75?

Oh ok, thank you for clearing that up. Is there any word on if he is a corner or Safety to start?

And just to be clear, I would hope they use the equipment/# that they are most recognized in. I was just pointing out that this was his first facemask in the NFL. Much like his USC facemask. And that may be why they dont have the correct facemask in that snapshot. Possibly because they don't have that facemask in the game. So they just used a generic DB type facemask.

This is a really excellent question that I don't have the slightest idea about. He was All-Pro at both, but just looking at the way pro football reference has him broken down, I'd guess that he'd be a safety since that's where he spent his prime years. His first four seasons he was listed as a corner; his 5th they have him listed FS/LCB; and the final 9 he was a safety. Just looking at that I can see them making the concession to play him where he spent the bulk of his career.

I really don't understand why it matters how accurate this facemask is, you can barely notice it while your playing. You might catch a glimpse in a cut screen.

Last year, they made a point of thumping their chests for getting green dots on the helmets, even acknowledging that most people wouldn't notice it, but saying they took the time to do it anyway because that's the standard that they want to hold themselves to -- 100% authenticity was what they said in the blogs. That was the goal. So, if 100% authenticity is what they are shooting for then why wouldn't an inaccurate facemask on one of the greatest players of all-time matter?

I'm surprised with all the talk about how the facemask is wrong, nobody has mentioned how the sleeve stripes are wrong.

Ok, if they are saying 100 percent accuracy then yes it needs to be done. It always would make me mad when they would not update the player portraits when going threw the rosters and seeing V.Davis still with dreads. I also think player faces should be spot on example Ryan fitzpatrick and the beard. I think Ronnie lott looks great with or without the the right facemask, big pads and missing pinky. IMO he was the toughest Saftey of all time and Im glad he is in the game...

I never pay that much attention to stuff like that ... so what's wrong with the sleeves stripes? Other than maybe being a little thin. (numbers aren't on sleeve either also...)

In the screenshot he's wearing a current 49er jersey, not a throwback. Their current jersey's sleeve stripes are truncated and don't go all the way around the sleeve except for the top one.

Aaaahhh...
I'd never notice that. Glad we have people who look that much into the details but until I get a new passing system and real ratings that matter I'll yell about that
Good eye!
