Madden NFL 13 News Post

ESPN has posted a new Madden NFL 13 screenshot featuring Adrian Peterson and Brian Urlacher.

Art director, Jean Adams includes a few more bits of information about the new Nike uniforms and how crazy it was to keep the information from leaking.

Quote:
The material actual changes the colors for some of the teams," he says. "The Buccaneers color shifts a little bit with the pants, and the Saints, they usually have gold, but the way the uniform is matted, it changes the way it looks slightly. All of the cuts and designs are all very angular, and the stitching around the collar is very unique and will be really noticeable to a lot of the fans watching the games. There is also a new look to the pants where a lot of players are going to incorporate what looks like the Pro Combat-style pads to their thighs and knees, and that's very distinct.

"I think when people play 'Madden' and they zoom in, they are going to notice a lot of the cool little details, because everything from the stitching to the piping is different. The pants are different because they have a jersey mesh on the side, and they've never had that, so I think gamers are going to appreciate that we have all of the details right. We even have some of the details and jerseys Nike hasn't revealed just yet. There are a lot of great alternate uniforms this year that people are going to love. There are some big surprises that are coming with helmets and things like that, that people don't know about. I can't wait until they see it in the game.

Agreed. Vikes definitely have the worst uni in the league and I'm still on the fence about Seattle's new one.

Anyway they look decent enough to me. I have a feeling though that the 5 teams that did not upgrade to the Nike Elite-51's (Eagles, Falcons, Packers, Panthers, Raiders) will have them in the game anyway. Just like when they introduced the Captain patch, every team in Madden had it even though a couple teams in real life declined to use it.
I think that IRL, by the 2013 season every team will definitely have them.

I'd be stoked if they brought back the black, but that's more of a Matt Millen era thing... Might be an all silver look with blue numbers?

I thought there was a rule about helmets that you could only have one and maybe a throwback?

I don't get why they didn't show that as a screenshot... It was literally the only team that made noticeable changes. It was Nike's headliner for the unveil even.

Would be pretty lame if they weren't included given how hard Nike has been pushing those since the ProBowl... Then again, apparently NCAA 13 is not getting new cleats/gloves so maybe Madden won't either - weak.

Ok the Vikings jersey needs work, the gap between the white piping of the side panel and shoulder is too big, that gold line that is alone needs to be very small, the side panel is too big, and the number needs to be much smaller, matching up with the size of the name.

Here is some reference. And the article is very neat, I hope we don't have to pay for extras, and just make the Vikings throwbacks their permenant!

Cute. Now only if the game could be as modern (code wise) as these new uniforms...

Yikes. Not a fan of this uni combo for the Bears. What is wrong with the clean all white look?

I am sure AP just ran right through him.

In 8 career games vs the Bears he is averaging 118 total yards, 4.9 yards per carry, and scored 12 TDs.

Player models look pretty much the same.
The grass does not look real at all.
The sidelines are still dead.

Could be the are just holding off on showcasing this year's upgrades until they release the presentation stuff. This shot was only to show off the new uniforms.

Alright. This is what I'm going to do. First off I am going to comment on what I see in the screenshot and then use it as an opportunity to talk about ridiculous things that Madden does visually in a polite manner.
Ok. Can someone please tell me why...Brian Urlacher has a glove on him that no on in the NFL has worn in 3-4 years and if not that then longer. I truly hope that this is just what EA has come up with so far. I wouldn't think it would be the final touch anyway.
Another thing is that this game did a not do very good job trying to articulate actual player models last year. Players that had contracts with adidas wouldn't even wear the cleats they originally wore. They had on those high top snow boot like adidas (lol sorry but I had to laugh on this one). And for those under armour cleats: "get em' outta here"...please?
In my biased opinion I think the variety of equipment should be like variety of shoes you could chose from in the NBA live games. That would be pretty cool. Instead of being limitted to the hand me down like equipment on Madden we coudl have a "unique" variety of things to choose from. I'm just putting it str8. To be honest I more than likely won't buy the game for a 2nd year in a row but "If" people actually start to talk about this game like it has made a "MAJOR" improvement, then I'm not getting it. Those are just a couple of visual outlooks I can give as a former football player and current football fan. I'm sure the game community would agree that it would be nice to have things things.
