iOOTP 2012 News Post

Just received word from Brad at OOTP Developments that iOOTP 2012 is on track for an early April release. I should be getting my hands on the game within the next day or so. Check out the features list of this year's game:

  • Just like its big brother, iOOTP 2012 features the complete 2012 roster set. Every player on every major league team is available, with complete ratings and career stats, along with the top 10 minor league prospects for each team. (The rosters will be up-to-date as of March 24, when we're submitting the game to Apple, but shortly after the game's release on 4/5, we will release a free update with Opening Day rosters.)
  • Detailed player histories, including award histories, are now available, and there are more league leaderboards, for a total of 8.
  • As in last year's game, the HD iPad version is included free, and many of the game's screens have been reworked to take advantage of the larger display. Some iPad screens, such as the box score, have been improved from last year's game to allow the display of even more information.
  • We've revamped iOOTP's user interface, and we've greatly improved the roster management and trading AI.
  • Historical seasons now have real schedules, so you can play through your favorite team's past seasons as they really happened.
  • Like last year, three free historical seasons will be included. This year they're 1924, 1969 and 1995. Bundles with 10 seasons and single seasons will be available for purchase.
  • On the fictional side, iOOTP 2012 includes one new fictional setup, along with the ability to choose any year to start your fictional league, complete with stats and finances from that era.
  • While managing a game, you can opt to use pitch-by-pitch mode, and you can sim until a specific inning. You can also change game options during a sim.
  • In addition, you can now use the DH in any league and you can disable finances. You can also edit league, sub-league, and division names (division names are editable only in the iPad version.)
  • We've enabled iTunes Share, which makes it easier to transfer saves or add logos to the game.
What do you think? Is your productivity about to go down the tubes as much as mine is?

Definitely looking forward to this.

Yeah me too!

But what I wish they would do with the historical seasons, all games should do this, is when the draft comes around have the real players who were in that specific draft available to be drafted. I would also love for this company to design a football version!

The price stays the same as last year ($4.99) and again you get an Universal App that can be used on iPod/iPhone and iPad (as HD version).

I'm not a big historical player in OOTP, but I'm 99% sure that in the regular version of OOTP, what you describe does happen (real players in that draft being available). I'm sure there wouldn't be enough memory or whatever for that to happen in the iOOTP version, but anyway, yeah, play regular OOTP if that's what you're after.

Hey Palli, any plans to develop an Android version of the game? Either for this year or in the future?

Does iTunes share mean taking advantage of the cloud save system?

It would be awesome to play on one save file for my ipad and ipod touch....in the same way that scribblenauts did.

Historical Drafts: the PC/Mac version does exactly that (if you want)! For the mobile version it is not possible due to hardware limitations. But the devices get better and better so you never know what we can expect in the future.

Android version: yes, we have plans to make an Android version but no timetable is set. I have enough to do with the iOS version and the new hockey project. So I can't say if 2012 will be available for Android, sorry.

iCloud: our saves are to big for iCloud support. But technically it is possible to share saves between devices, unfortunately not as easy as with iCloud.

If you guys are interested: we released our first Road to Release 2012 article:

Sure. Before I joined OOTP Developments back in summer 2010 I worked on a hockey textsim game together with a friend in my free time. After I started my work on iOOTP I had to leave the project but my friend continued to work on it. Last year we decided it would be a good fit with OOTP Developments so now it will be released under the OOTP Dev brand. I will work on it in times where the iOOTP development permits it and my friend works fulltime on the project.

Cool! Just to make it clear (because I did not write it in my last post): the hockey project is PC/Mac at first with the possibility of a mobile version later.

I stopped listening to everything else when I heard hockey project. This is so exciting! Any idea when that will be released?

We don't have a release date yet but we shoot for a late 2012 release. The last few days I went back to coding the hockey game after iOOTP was submitted to Apple. Right now I port the News and Storyline engine from OOTP 13, in fact, just an hour ago I was greeted by a nice "Sebastian Palkowski Hired to Shake Things Up as New General Manager of the Chicago Blackhawks" headline, so it works.
