NCAA Football 13 News Post

Today is National Signing Day, the first day that high school seniors can sign a letter of intent indicating where they plan to play college football. Sure, most top recruits have already chosen their schools, but National Signing Day always offers last-minute drama and surprises. To celebrate the occasion, let’s take a look at some ideas for recruiting and Dynasty Mode in the NCAA Football series.

Very valid points. Recruiting can be and should be one of the most exciting things about a college football video game, and it's rather formulaic and boring.

Teams should be able to recruit high school players of all ages and clases. Teams should be able to offer as many scholarships as they can, and when their alotment of signees are filled then the offers are shut down. Teams should be stuck in shock when players decommit or recommit away/to them out of the blue. Teams should be able to .......(insert real life action).

We could go on for a while with the list, but the lack of detail and authenticity is what is killing EA's NCAA series from the simplest gameplay flaws to the off-season experience.

Would be a very interesting add to the game. Definitely would spice the edge of recruiting up a bit.

I get kind of bored of the "Oh, my dog doesn't think I should sign yet!" Or the "That's exactly what I was looking for coach."

This would be a great idea to add.

This is why I solely play Online Dynasty and can't even touch an offline dynasty for than a couple of weeks (real time). In OD (assuming you have a fair number of members) you actually fight over recruits with each other and the possibility of losing one more recruits is much higher.

Yes I know you fight the cpu for recruits as well but it just isn't the same with how stale the recruiting process is.

great...thanks alot...now the new feature will be "ncaa 13 now with all new signing day"

Jesus we need more people to speak up and talk about gameplay and not meaningless stuff like this. While I do agree it would be a great feature...this should only take a few days for the devs to make into the game..instead itll take a whole dev cycle.

Have you seen the forums and the dev interactions there? No sense beating a dead horse, I think they got the point.

This is a great point that you all made but ea ******* won't do it until the new consoles come in 2013 or whatever they drop. We need 2k sports too get there rights back and run ea sports into the ground

I agree. I mentioned this before to some people in my league and they didn't think it was a good idea. Basically I believe all "hard" commits in NCAA 12 should be "soft" commits in NCAA 13 and can possibly change. Then there could always be people that have their top few but we don't know for sure where they are going. A nice setup would be for everyone in the off-season to watch a video or something of a couple of the guys they are on the short list of similar to what teams went through with Dorial Green-Beckham today.

I do partially disagree with your assessment of finding the diamonds in the rough. While they are usually Juco recruits, I have been able to look through recruits ratings to find a 2 star LB that has good skills who ends up being in the low 90s (with 6 star training) by the time he graduates.

It'd be a nice bonus, as of now I just pick and target based on what I need. But I rarely recruit below 3* if I have a decent program. Occasionally a 2* LB/DE/OL is what I want, but rarely.

Great idea! Also add it to Road to Glory! And make Mama mad when you pick Bama over LSU!

Yes. I just wrote this in a previous blog. The more and more I come to this site, and the more and more they don't listen really.... kinda gives me less hope :/

Basically their game is almost finished. Around April they have everything set in place. And the rest is polish time.
The new graphics are in.
New modes? Not so much.

Don't mean to be negative.

In other words... I agree!

Fantastic article sir..I actually watched the NSD special today for a couple of hours and was entertained..I wanted to see if these guys would change there mind and spurn a school

Adding the features from your article would be a vast improvement in this boring dynasty mode.

Agreed. It would also add another element of surprise in online dynasty.

Did I land the 5* recruit? Or did he go to a rival? Would be pretty fun.

This is a brilliant idea. Hope folks at EA are reading this.
If implemented the way you descirbed it that would be fantastic..

have a generic signing announcement...create a view body styles and make it to where some kids just commit over the phone and some wanting to do a presser with 3-5 hats with the team logo on it sitting on the table and they choose their school..wouldnt think itd take up that much space on the disk

I'm not a fan of the decommits for hard commits. Now if someone carries a soft verbal into NSD then let the games begin but for hard commits to switch with such small rosters I just can't agree with that. Only way a hard commit should decommit if there is a coaching change within the program they commited to then i don't have a problem with that. Not everytime but if coach prestige was important to them It can happen.

I've been wanting a national signing day along with an AA high school football game to get a feel of how your recruit plays before going after him for a scholarship.

This is a good point. With 70 man rosters, having a last minute decommit could really really leave you thin at certain positions. Think if it happened with a kicker or punter...I don't know about you guys but I only recruit two of those guys every 4 years.

A realistic way to counter that would be to have "fall back" players available at the last minute. This happens in real life all the time. Stud 4 star recruit switches schools last minute and the Big Time U where he was originally committed swoops in and grabs Joe Schmoe 3 star from MAC conference school.

85 man rosters is needed for a realistic college football experience

I only like this if recruits become aware of signings at there position. If not the CPU will just hoard more good players. Say if you sign 2 QBs in a class the third one you have on your board drops you from first to 9th if they have similar prestige. Then lets say between those 2 you establish your guy so the other decides to transfer. Also we should be able to suggest transfers.
