The description there is a little vague, but yeah, it sounds like an EA Sports Ultimate Team type of game mode.

sounds like SEGA MLB online manager

# 4 Stikskillz @ 01/18/12 12:38 AM
Definitely sounds like there is a fantasy sports aspect to it. We will find out more soon...

Almost what I proposed. I think it would be cool if you steal other teams' players when you beat them though.

I wouldn't put it past Amazon to have the correct information for this. It sounds about like what it probably would be anyway.

For those who Havent played:

You started with a custom team, you could edit jerseys, sign players based on the amount of "pucks" you earned from playing CPU, Players and playoff modes. Signed contracts, dealt with injuries, chemisty it is very in depth.

This sounds like an exact ripoff....sure it might have better, more in depth features hopefully, but this in no way "never before done in a sports game" that was a laughable statement. Very disappointing....

Dont get me wrong this is an awesome mode for Baseball, but acting like they had this huge secret to revolutionize online Sports mode...and its nothing new at all is whats upsetting.
Just going to play a bit of devil's advocate, but when did they come up with Hockey Ultimate Team? Maybe what SCEA meant (though it isn't what was quoted in an article, but we've read misquotes before) is that when they came up with the idea and began implementation, no other sports game before it had made this kind of mode haha.

what is this. i don't really know what this means.

If Ramone doesn't come on here and deny this, does that mean it's confirmed?

Probably.

And while I agree w/ others that this is definitely not anything new, I will still be excited for it. I love baseball above and beyond all other sports, so I will probably use this game mode way more than I have in NHL or Madden.

Has it been long enough for him to even notice this thread?

Regardless, it's a good mode to have online!

Looks like Blzer's earned his chicken dinner, huh?

Don't worry about "have never done before" thing... I've proposed a few remarkably innovative, never been done before modes in Blzer's thread. jk

I'm still curious how the trading aspect gets done. Do we have to deal with the same players? Or are all players generated?

In any case, certainly makes me more interested in playing online again! Good mode...

Hmm...I'm going to wait until SCEA explains the mode a bit before I get too up or down about it. On the one hand, it sounds like it could be a good mode. On the other, I don't know how I feel about having a customizable team right in front of me if it's not useable in franchise mode. We'll see how it shakes out.

i dunno guuyss..... sounds kinda stupid....

Sounds promising.

In the same way that it does in Madden. I'll load it up, but probably won't play it much(although I put a considerable amount of time into MUT12), because the mode hasn't changed much since it's inception. And those details, as minimal as they are, don't excite me.

That description is pretty vague, but revealing at the same time. Mostly because Russell said it was nothing like anything that is being done in any sports title, and that just comes off as hyperbolic, now.

Maybe ? Maybe not !

Don't forget that FIFA ultimate team does exist in 2009. (This feature was announced in February 2009 so EA Sports worked on it since 2008)
At least SCEA and EA have the same idea in 2008 since SCEA is workind on D.D. for 4 cycles.

And as far as I'm concerned, I don't play Madden UT, FIFA UT or NHL UT. So don't expect me to play D.D. if it is another UT-like game.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool for people who like this kind of mode (and for SCEA it is another mean to make more money w/ DLC ; business baby).
But I'm sad the VITA development and now this DD mode has for sure taken a huge amount of development time. Time which had not been used for the franchise mode as promised.

# 17 etched Chaos @ 01/18/12 08:49 AM
This sounds exactly like UT to me which is great as I'm a fan, but it does fly in the face of what Ramone has been saying. Unless of course Amazon are telling porkies.

# 18 sink4ever @ 01/18/12 09:18 AM
Definitely going to wait until full details are released before reacting. The bottom line is that this mode should be based solely on it's merits, not on anyone's preconceived ideas. I swear, sometimes . . .

# 19 gigadkc @ 01/18/12 09:34 AM
so that's like Ultimate Team from Fifa/Madden and Grand Prix Mode from PYS, right? Sounds good then. I play Fifa UT almost every day and Grand Prix Mode from PYS is also awesome.

This isn't necessarily true, PYS has great online play even against people in Japan.
