Why Charles Barkley Isn’t Appearing in NBA 2K12

In a follow up article we linked to the other day, Kotaku has revealed why Charles Barkley isn’t appearing in NBA 2K12.

	2K Sports attempted to include basketball great Charles Barkley in NBA 2K12's "NBA's Greatest" mode, showcasing dozens of superstars spanning the game's history, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement bringing the hall-of-famer to the video game. He will not appear in NBA 2K12. "There's no doubt in our minds that Charles is and should always be a key part of the conversation as it relates to who are the NBA's Greatest players of all time," a 2K Sports spokesperson told Kotaku. "We have a very positive relationship with Sir Charles and while we were unable to include him in-game this year for a variety of reasons, we share everyone's hope that he may one day appear in our game."

This doesn't explain why he's not in the game. We all knew they tried to get Charles in and talks broke down at one point or another. 2K wasn't forgetting about him or just ignoring him. They offered him a contract and he declined.

I was hoping they'd tell us exactly what it was that made him turn them down. Barkley isn't a guy with a huge ego when it comes to comparing himself to other greats: he knows he's ringless and there are players better than him from his era. I don't think it was that. Him being in is free money, so I don't think it was that. Maybe he didn't like the situation they put his avatar in... last year obviously was losing to the Bulls in the Finals. This year? Playing second fiddle to Dr. J?

I wonder who gets dropped if Barkley and Reggie signed on? Will Pippen and Stockton's challenges become Jordan/Pippen and Malone/Stockton? Does Kareem's challenge become a Magic/KAJ challenge?

just include phoenix's 93 jersey already, throw in the sonics and pacers from that year too and i'll be a very happy man.

This^^^ It appears in previous versions (2k11) they only included "throwback" jerseys that the teams actually wear, that's why the Nets didn't have one, they don't wear one. Hopefully since you can't really ask teams what "throwbacks" they wear this season(since there may bot be a season at all) we get a closer to complete set for each team in addition to all the ones that were available last year.

He needs to be in the game, man. IMO playing him against these other NBA Legends will be like playing Kratos against the Gods in the GOW series. Barkley has that character LOL.
Anyway, it's good to know that Chuck and 2K have a very positive relationship in between. If that's the case then 2K has got to get him for NBA 2K13, it might be the last game to feature Michael Jordan. And probably the final game of 2K Sports I'll be having...

MJ + All the rest NBA Legends/Teams + Sir Charles (as a '93 Suns player) = NBA 2K13. Make it happen already.

It's probably because of something like...Rob Jones beat him in golf 5 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if that's Charles' decision-making method.

What I don't like personally about created players is that the commentators wont say anything about your player's history, bio, where he comes from, etc.
No matter how accurate looking/playing your created player (e.g. Sir Charles) is, they commentators know no records about him coz he's just not licensed lol. That's just that. No offense

It's not just that but their signature moves will be missing. They won't play like themselves. Plus, you've got to have the right uniforms.

Charles doesn't support video games in general, he's against them. I'm sure he asked for a figure from 2K that was unreasonable.

I beg to disagree. There may be some certain things in video games that he doesn't like but he's not against them.

They are not in the game. They were on a speculation list a while back.

There's plenty of info about which teams are in the game so you could've just researched itself. There's even a thread about which teams are in the game.
