NCAA Football 12 News Post

July is always a polarizing month here at Operation Sports because it marks the beginning of football gaming season. The release of EA's NCAA Football always means our forums will be abuzz with frenzied football fanatics breaking down the most minute details of the game. As such, it is almost impossible for the game to satisfy everyone, splitting our readers and staff alike down the middle depending on one's yearly expectations.

However, the most important lesson I’ve learned in my three years as a staff writer here at Operation Sports is that it is our standard policy to review a game based on what's in the game rather than what isn't in it. This is not to say we turn a blind eye to things that we believe have become industry standards in sports games, I just want to give everyone a heads up that I will not be reviewing and scoring NCAA Football 12 based on the fact that it has not implemented a tackling engine that is entirely physics-based, nor will I compare its core mechanics and features to games from the past. This review is about NCAA Football 12; the only game it can fairly be compared to in our eyes is the NCAA Football series. If you are able to accept this OS review philosophy of judging a game based on its own merits, then enjoy the ride. If you would rather focus on what you believe should be included in NCAA 12, or just disagree with our approach, then our reviews might not be for you -- and that's perfectly acceptable

With all that being said, let's get to the good stuff.

Does anyone know this.... it would really help me out.... if I have a 1/2 of a season played in NCAA 11, is there any way to important that to NCAA 12? Thanks so much. I've looked around for an answer, but haven't found one yet.

Good review, I'm all excited to buy!

Couple quick questions though, did you get a chance to test the play action game? I know a lot of people (myself included) rarely ever bothered attempting PA in NCAA 11 because the defenders never bit.

Also, I don't know if you had a chance to check out presentation options, but by any chance did you notice if it's possible to separate the band from the crowd? It bugged me last year that they were tied together.

Thanks!

PA is fixed. You have to used it in logical situations where it will work.

Not holding the game's lacks against it seems like a very strange way of assessing the quality of a game, no? Seems like that encourages a lack of innovation, as trying something new and getting it wrong is worse in OS's view than not trying anything new at all.

Just seems a bit political is all. The actual impressions about the game are nice.

Good review. However no mention of dynasty mode.

It seems like the gameplay is pretty great, I hope EA doesn't tweak it too much with the tuners.

I agree but I think they did it because u could blast most games for what it lacks and you know how fast things here turn into a hate fest.

Not a review, just gameplay and presentation impressions. I think there'll be 4 days of impressions until we get to the review on Friday with the score.

You got me excited to buy this game again. While the demo felt a lot like NCAA 11, hearing that the CPU AI has been greatly improved is a change that was due years ago! To finally see a CPU run the ball smartly, punt realistically, or put some pressure on the QB is something I almost accepted as never happening in the NCAA franchise. Totally get what you are saying about being happy that you are .500 vs CPU in all american. Feels good to know each game will be its own challenge, like real college football.

Damn it, I wish they had midnight releases for this in Canada.

Really good write up.

I am so excited about the improved AI on both sides of the ball and the new collision detection. No question those were the only real gameplay flaws of NCAA 11 for me.

I can't wait till tomorrow!!!

Excellent review. I can only hope I feel the same way tomorrow night.

If running out of the spread is truly fixed that is the best thing in this write up. Everything else I gathered through the blobs and /or demo.

I have to say I'll be watching the OS reviews a little more closely this year....after last years injustice of Madden 11 getting ranked the same as NBA 2k11....

The NCAA 12 review looks to be pretty extensive as they should be.....I just laugh at the mainstream gaming sites now a days......They barely ever go into whats been truly fixed and how......and most times are completely oblivious of knowledge about most of the issues Sports Gamers have about these games

Great read! I really liked the review. I can't wait to read your review of the Dynasty and Road to Glory modes.

Well balanced article. Perfectly executed. Real sports gamers know the talk between gameplay and real sports situations. Thanks for being honest as well as informative. I also see that EA is serious about fixing issues dynamically.

Kudos to Chris for dedicated work and to EA as well!!!
Looks like a great game.

Definitely picking up. Only things I'm really waiting for word on is in reference to Dynasty mode.
Player progression, realistic recruits and CPU keeping balanced rosters. Other than that there would be no dealbreakers for me as of yet.
