I hope i can do that for NCAA

This analogy is beyond terrible. If I buy a toy that needs batteries it's understandable because it's two separate companies, one that makes the toy the other that makes batteries. Thats not even close to the same as a company giving you a code to donwload DLC or unlock something already on the disc. It's more like if I bought a 12 back of AAA duracels but found out there were only 11 in the package because I bought them from Walmart instead of Staples.

Thats business. Best Buy will have the exclusive to sell the HTC Flyer Tablet. On their website Best Buy also sells a "Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy - Best Buy Exclusive Edition" dvd. So quit acting like this is some unusual practice. Other video games charge money for extra things. Call of Duty charges you $15 for new map packs.
I hold a gripe with EA Gamestop because I don't like seeing companies nickle and dime people. Or use shady tactics to drive business to their store. If Best Buy does it shame on them too. And I don't play CoD but the whole map packs thing falls into the exact same category. The people behind CoD might be worse than EA when it comes to this sort of thing. If your point is "well everyone does it so EA's not bad" then just stop.

I know your answer will be principle but in the real world that answer is meaningless.
First I haven't decided whether or not I want to buy the game, so I'm in no hurry to reserve a copy. Second I have never been in a situation where I was unable to find the game on release day so preordering is unnecessary. Third I have gift cards to other stores that sell the game and I can basically get it for free. But if I buy from those stores I won't get the same game I'll get if I buy from Gamestop. Disgustya.

The Mom & Pop stores that break the date and the ones who are wrong and unethical because they are breaking an agreement. But since that benefits you & me by getting the game early, we dont care. But i'm sure it bothers EA when stores do this, that is why they have gone to greater lengths to discourage this.
Irrelevant to me. First off to my knowledge there are no mom and pop electronic stores in my town that sell new xbox 360 games. Second to pretend this is about the street date is ignoring the fact that this is a gamestop exclusive deal, not a deal exclusive to all sites that generally honor the street date. Trying to frame this as a reward to gamestop for adhering to the street date and customers for doing the same is just lol.

But thats a risk you take depending on how much business your local Gamestop does.
Yeah obviously. I can also walk into walmart on release date and buy it w/o the codes. There shouldn't be codes though, scummy business tactic.

Neither time did i get a replacement game i was really pissed. So im preordering it from them getting the codes, then going to take the preorder off and get it from walmart with my discount there.
I don't think you will get the codes unless you actually buy (and pre-order, of course) the game from Gamestop. I could be wrong though.

I know it seems like a small gripe, but I just don't like that. Other than that I don't have a problem with it.

And am I the only person who wishes they'd go back to the way they use to do preorders? Where they'd call you the day before the game was set to release and tell you to come and pick it up.
Yep, this is my only gripe with them. I've been told since I was a kid, once the plastic comes off, the game is used. That's also the way that 90% of stores across America work. Once that plastic comes off, the game is used and can't be returned. So why am I getting a NEW game with the plastic ripped off. Gamestop has already confessed to letting employees tryout games. So what's the difference between Joe Blow, the gamestop employee, ripping off the plastic and playing the game for a few hours and John Blow, the gamestop customer, going home, ripping off the plastic, playing for a few hours, then deciding to trade the game in? There's nothing different, but Gamestop will sell one as new and one as used. I actually went to buy my son a PS3 game one time and the "NEW" game had fingerprints on it. When I asked the sales clerk about it, he casually sprayed some kind of solution on the disc and wiped it off, then handed it back to me. So I casually asked for my money back and went down to Walmart and bought an actual NEW copy of the game that was sealed in plastic. I try my best to not give Gamestop my business for this very reason. Promotions like this tick me off because I'd like to have those jerseys, but I refuse to go through Gamestop to get them.

Maybe some folks dont like gamestop because of their buy-back/resell ratio. It just feels cheap when you go to trade a good game in and they offer yo usay $14, then 30mins later they're re-selling it from $49.99. I know plenty of times ive walked in there only to just walk back out with the game, and just give it away to another person in the family.

also video game are they only product that i can think of where you can be completely unsatisfied with the product yet you cant as a consumer that the product back. 4ex if the game has a major bug that alot ppl deem unacceptable. Instead ppl have to sit around and wait for a patch to happen to a game that they deem unplayable. 1st, there is never a guarantee that the issue will even get patched at all (but they usually try to some degree) and if i does get patched it could be 2mos down the line.

Thats why i buy alot my games used and just pay the online fee. Dont like that fee but atleast its somewhat understandable; tho someone had to have already purchased the game new inorder for another person to buy it used. so in theory you could say that EA already got their money because they have no way to determine if a person will keep a game or not.

Also i think alot of ppl are talking about the principles of it because its just like if we let this slide, then where will it end. It is said that a person should treat small problems as big problems and big problems as small problems. So you fix the dam at the 1st signs of a crack when its still managable, not when the water is already flowing out; i wont insult anyones intelligence by breaking it down further than that

another thing is I personally dont understand the group of folks that are arguing for EA/GS. If ppl dont like said tactics let them voice there opinion and maybe things will get changed. Mostly likely not thru posting on a board. But if for example everyone who didnt like said practices didnt purchase the game for say a 2wks (thats about how long it takes for the rosters to come out) then these types of practices could possibly come to an end. At the end of the day ppl have to speak with their wallets in order to change these types of practices, but it wont happen because we as a society always have to have things asap. Seems, ADD just morphs as you transition from childhood to adulthood.

For me, i have never purchased a game from a M&P store (dont know of 1) so that part of it is not the issue for me, my only concern is if the game had a major glitch or bug that i deemed made the game broke and i had to sit 4 say 2mos waiting for it to get fixed.

a minor gripe would be that if you were put in a circumstance where gamestop was not a reasonable option 4 yourself and you had to purchse thru another vendor and now you had to pay for a perk that other got 4 free. I could see how that could annoy some ppl.

but all in all i think the folks who are ok will EA doing this should just fall-back and the ppl who dont approve should do more than just mere online-site complaining, if you really unhappy, only money talks...

Yeah more than likely it will be a card they attach on the top of the pre orders when its picked up. from GS's website

Quote:
Online Customers: A code and download instructions will be provided to the customer when the game releases.

Store/In-Store Pickup Customers: A pre-order card containing a code and instructions on how to download the course will be available at time of game release.
So you will have to buy it from GS for the unis, and more than likely if you didn't EA is going to charge for them otherwise.

Exactly.

And I agree that money talks. If I end up buying the game there's a 0% chance that I preorder it from gamestop, or buy DLC for procombat uniforms if/when EA starts trying to sell it. It won't help though because I already know a ton of other people will.

If EA sees a bunch of people flock to gamestop and preorder it's only going to lead to them making more deals like this in the future. From microtransactions, to online pass, to hinting that they're going to start adding a subscription service (http://www.pastapadre.com/2011/04/22...iption-service) and backroom deals with gamestop it's just too much.

This is what I'm focused on. I don't care about some unis. Just give me coaching carousel
