On one hand, a good thing because it's more likely that I'll be able to start my franchise with an opening-week roster (which I almost never do because I'm impatient ).

Good.
I hate that it releases so close to NCAA the way it is. This gives me more separation between the two, I'd hope.

Ehh, no biggie for me. Wasn't really looking forward to Madden, and with an NFL work stoppage looming, probably wouldn't be that fired up for NFL football anyway.
Now if NCAA is pushed back, I'll start a riot.

This is weird - why change the release date? Is this for sales reasons or are they having issues?
Too much is happening to the Madden series to believe that the product to hit the shelves will have what the gaming community been asking for for the past 5 years.
Too much shake-up going on.
I can see the excuse right now that "We're going through a Transitional Phase" right now.
If this is happening to their Cash Cow, could all the "Hush-Hush" on the NCAA side be a prelude to some major issues happening on the College side?
With Ian and other top players leaving now, is it still "Too Early" for the community to want to know what has been fixed/changed under the hood of Madden 12 to warrant a $65 purchase.
Just curious what does an extra 15 days do for the game that is finalized months before?
I'm glad i'm a rent 1st gamer now!!!

Madden NFL 12 release date of Aug. 30 to align closer to the start of the NFL regular season
To get the date closer to the start of the NFL regular season pretty much.

I think ncaa 12 is gonna be much better than madden this year...the strange decisions at tiburon don't make a good PR to madden this year..it seems like they are having problems with developing right now and they are not concentrated on giving us the madden we want...

At least it will give gamers who buy NCAA and eventually trade it in for Madden more time to speculate. I am keeping NCAA 12 regardess.
I wonder when the Demo comes out? Probably the last week of July.
The game would come out over month after the last blog on July 25.

this is just a bs lie so people don't get worried they have never done this before so why start now
The late release date is more likely to do with the news that key staff are jumping ship than it has with the start of the NFL season.

To the people who said why do it this year...
keep in mind that EA loves doing new stuff when it comes to the release of madden...whatever they think can make it more desirable to the consumer, they'll do it. (Friday release a couple years ago, the "maddenoliday" promotion, the super bowl demo...)
It's what they do, and now, this year...and probably til the end of time...they'll keep with this release date timeframe...
just an opinion/thought.

Doesn't bother me at all. This is Madden year for me, but I can wait a couple of extra weeks.
