1. Releasing a college basketball game in January instead of November would be a positive for a college hoops title.

Dustin Toms: Fact/Fiction. I feel like this is a loaded question. For the hardcore college hoops fan, this would be nothing short of a disappointment. You don't want to start playing halfway through the season, you want to take control once the actual season begins. But on the other hand, for the gaming companies, releasing closer to the tournament would probably make them more money in the long run. When it comes down to it, we all just want a new college hoops game.

Christian McLeod: Fact. I consider myself a college hoops fanatic -- the kicker is that outside of the early season tournaments, my interest level in the sport doesn't peak until mid/late January. Once college football is over and the NFL Playoffs come to an end, college basketball kicks into high gear. Also, by January interest in NBA gaming is beginning to tail off after a four month play period. Why not refine the NBA engine, polish up gameplay quirks, and even add some new features to the college game? In short, use the NBA game as a beta to perfect the college game, and then use the college game to use as a beta to perfect the next year's NBA game? Seems like a win-win for everyone involved to me.

Wolverine Studios is working on DDS: College Basketball 2. The original game was pretty good. Don't know how long it will take to come out but definitely within the next three years.

I still receive roster requests every month from indivuals wanting named rosters from EA's NCAA Basketball 2009.

Use this as an opportunity to test selling a $60 retail package of a full game every few years. Then charge for annual DLC to update roster ratings (since they can't give us the names) so that the top schools at the time are always accurately depicted.

I'm an EA homer, so hopefully they can get their act together too.

Great article. I know its unlikely, but I wish someone from 2k would at least give us an answer to whether or not this is a possibility. I hate having this hope that has no base to it. I'd also love to hear an explanation as to why we aren't getting one. I have to believe the NCAA has lowered its prices, as they have no one buying from them now. Maybe it's just me, but no matter how hard I look, I can't find a reason why 2k wouldn't just put out a College version of NBA 2k. They have the Legacy mode in place, that hardly needs working on, and they have the game engine in place (with NBA 2k11 being the best representation of Basketball I've ever seen). It just doesn't make sense to me.

I really hope CHoops 12 comes out! I'm probably being overly optimistic, but...

Honestly, why not release right before March Madness. While other sports are eliminating teams out of contention come playoff time, college hoops and March Madness actually adds teams, thus adding interest and want to the sport. Who had VCU, Richmond and other hopeful Cinderella's on there mind before March Madness. The peak interest in college hoops would be the ideal time to drop a game. It may seem late to the diehards, but diehards are going to buy no matter what...Madden...So why not feed the want.

I love college basketball. I played college basketball and now coach high school basketball so the sport is my life. I also love playing basketball games. I think releasing in January would help. The fact that other games are not released during this time would help. Also it is after Christmas and people could spend those gift cards on the game. The game would not have to compete with NBA2k or NHL games. It just seems that October a lot of games comes out. Alot of people have to budget money when purchasing games so any college hoops games gets put down the list. I think a later release and maybe a 2 year-cycle would really help. The off year could have a updated roster release for those that have to have current rosters. Also the addition of a recruiting class builder like NBA2k11 has for draft classes would help as well. We could share our classes. Also the ability to edit roster (ie..names) before the release would be great. Don't know if they could load them on something like a team builder type site for the roster makes to get to work so when the game hits the streets we have a roster out. College hoops has way more teams then football so it takes a lot of time. Just some ideas.

A college basketball game, made by 2k would be good no matter when it is released.

I am now a fan of dustin toms for his Sonic statement!

I still wish for the life of me that 2K would implement that weekly highlight show into NBA 2K.

That was so incredibly entertaining.

Don't get my hopes up like this... I'd pre-order on the day they announced a new CH2k. Hell, I'd buy DLC for 2k8 if they would bring some out for it.
Although I like to play when the Hoops season starts I've been saying for a while that a late February early March would make a lot more sense. In November alot of people are still busy with the football games. Then College has to compete with 2ks own NBA game. And November-December is usually packed with AAA non-sports titles anyway. Just way too much competition.
In late Feb. through March there's usually a lull in big releases and you've got the hype from conference championships tourneys and March Madness build up.
But I think we're just gonna have to keep dusting off 2k8 year after year when we want to get our fix.

Or they could package it with NBA 2k12 for a higher price, yet they would still save on distribution costs. Win-win for all!

Exactly my friend. This is what i popped in to say. Doesn't matter when they make one. Just as long as they sometime before I die

2K might be a better game than EA's NCAA BB, but I can't say no to Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery. I play EA's title a lot more.

I think that if they do decide to bring back the series, they should release in November like they always have and just make a big marketing push close to March Madness so that those who have yet to get the game will be enticed to do so.

But I haven't enjoyed college basketball as much since the CH series ended. I believe that bringing that series back would also rejuvenate my interest in real life college basketball. On the flip side, my interest in the NBA is almost back to where it was during the 1990's thanks to some stellar NBA titles since 2K8.

# 20 ArkHogs @ 04/06/11 08:46 PM
As long as it's made by 2K, it would be good no matter when it was released. However, I think if they released it around March Madness time it would bring in more sales, because people would be hyped up and motivated to purchase it.
