NCAA Football 12 News Post

Over the next few weeks, EA Sports will show 25 new plays that you will find in NCAA Football 12.

New offensive plays will be shown every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while a new defensive play every Tuesday and Thursday. Each new play will be accompanied by a screen of the play art and a brief description of why the play has been added to NCAA Football 12.

Play #10 features the Pistol Train Triple Option.

Quote:
"Pistol Train Triple Option - Primarily used as a short yardage power set from the Pistol, the Train formation as it’s called by Nevada gives the offensive a variety of ways to attack the defense in short yardage situations. The Triple Option play is one such play that can be used to attack the defense."

It's nice to see that they've finally added this play. I have so-so success with the option but that is probably because my QB's usually aren't that fast.

Nice play. I fear this could be abused though if you can flip the play to the strong side and the defense comes out in a zone.

As an avid user of the Pistol offense, I love all the new formations and plays for it.

I hope you cant flip the ball when the ball carrier's arms are wrapped up and damn near on the ground.

I think this play could be a solid option play. The way I would use would be with 2rb's especially against other users. If they come out in man defense and you have a fast qb and rb you should be able to beat the defense to the corner or if they come out in zone pound it up the middle with your offset back. I kind of the speed up the exchange between th qb and the fb on this triple option plays cause it seems to take too long.

Oregon would do good with this play. Barner, James and Thomas running the Triple option

This play looks fantastic. I don't run the pistol often, but maybe I will for next year's game.

That sounds deadly, aslong as the offensive line blocks these option plays correctly.

Will only matter if they speed up animations for all pistol plays. Handoff and read animations for the pistol are insanely slow for 11, gives the defense tons of time to break through. If the same problems exist in 12 then these plays wont even matter. As for now though, looks pretty good.

agreed.

If they sort it out this is a deadly play

Yes, I also agree. The read option plays should have more than one defender making a "decision" on whether to attack the QB or the RB. Even though the QB only reads the DE, the other 10 defenders still have to flow toward the HB or stay home and watch the QB. So many read options get blown up in the game even when the QB reads the DE properly on the keeper but 2 LBs burst into the backfield for a loss anyway.

The read in the Pistol is just terrible right now. I really only run counters out of the Pistol because of that and the slow handoffs on dives.

Use draws. Out of Pistol they're actually very effective, much moreso than under center or shotgun, and the handoff is much faster than regular. While I said to speed up all pistol plays, I forgot about the draws.

That's the other thing I do run out of the Pistol or Ace. I can occasionally get a good one out of Shotgun, but no formation works anywhere near was well as either of those two formations.

Nice addition in my opinion.
