MLB 11 The Show News Post

Playstation.Blog has posted some more MLB 11 The Show co-op mode details. Unfortunately, we can't use this mode in season or franchise mode.

"For those of you that follow us closely, you know that we spend a lot of time reading feedback from all of our fans out there. One of the features that many of you have been pushing for is the desire to play The Show with someone as a teammate, instead of just as an opponent. So, this year we created a co-op mode that gives you and a buddy the ability to play on the same team against the CPU, against 1 player, or against 2 other players.

Here’s how it works…you’re able to customize who will be responsible for the different offensive and defensive areas of the game. When you’re at bat, you can choose to allow one person to do all of the batting or choose to alternate batters. The base running works in the opposite way so if you’re batting, your teammate will be responsible for the base running allowing you to work together for sacrifices and hit and runs. I promise you, if you’re playing a 2v2 co-op offline, you’ll start to develop hand signals with your teammate for these situations. I know, that sounds ridiculous, but it’s going to happen.

When you’re in the field, there are four different controllable areas—pitcher, catcher, infield, and outfield. Again, you have the ability to customize who is responsible for different areas. The pitcher, like the batter, can alternate between the teammates (per inning)."

I know that and I'm sure Knight knows that, but that is not the case with SCEA's The Show team.

Well it's always nice to be corrected, thank you.

We've known for a good while this wasn't in this year. And lastly there's never enough time each year to do everything they want especially since they actually listen to us and constantly add things. So yeah some thing do have to wait until "next year"....

You want the real answer?

It was not working out properly, and created more problems than they could iron out in time. It was buggy as ****!

Happy?

Plus I am sure they want to hold off on too many franchise implementations of features until they redo the franchise mode like they have planned. Why add and complicate a "legacy" mode with coding when you can implement things with a new rebuilt mode?

Not really that hard to understand. These guys do not beat around the bush.

Wow i didn't know that such a simple reply could get so many people upset. I didn't mean to ruffle feathers so please accept my apologies.

What did you expect with a post starting with "Were you guys born yesterday?"

I can only speak for myself. But having met these developers personally, they are not some typical corporation of shills. They give us honest answers as to why things can or can not be done. And not sugar coat anything with a "PR spin".

Don't mean to sound so defensive of them, but they have been so outgoing to us, it is hard not to respect and defend them. Accept my apologies as well. Rough month for me and my personal life. Maybe I need to not post so much, cause I am pretty emotional at this time.

I think co-op franchise could be really fun but the problem is simple. Only a small percentage of their customers will ever use a co-op Franchise feature. They definitely had the resources to implement it, but at what cost? Will enough people use the feature to justify the development time it will take away from other areas of the game?

use time and resources elsewhere, do not see enough people using this feature

My son and I had a blast with this feature. He pitched while I fielded for him. We also took turns hitting and simply had a blast. I guess folks with others to play with will get more out of this mode.

I was pretty deflated at first when I found out that co-op was only for exhibition & online too. Then I started realizing that I don't really see my friends regularly enough to play through a whole schedule with them anyway. I thought it would be cool if they could just jump in on some of the games in my franchise when they come over, while I still play the vast majority of games myself. But the occasional exhibition game vs the CPU or online still sounds like tons of fun. I'm just so grateful that SCEA decided to add co-op at all, it's something I've wished for for a long time (for for? that can't be right). Besides, it seems like there's so many other awesome new additions and enhancements to the game this year, that I'm beyond pumped for MLB 11.

Strange that the Co-op mode wasn't integrated into Franchise Mode. Wouldn't of thought this would of been a major hurdle for the developers. With the in depth RTTS & Franchise modes I doubt many bother playing one off Exhibition games.

I don't play exhibition games at all and don't go online. I don't think i have the plate discipline to play online. Hopefully it can be added to franchise next year. I play co op franchise on the same team with my buddy in nhl and it has made the game way more fun.

Bah. This sucks. My friend and I were so excited. It's been 10 years since we've got to play a co-op season.

I guess I'll be sticking with '10 for another year. Too bad.

# 38 taZer1921 @ 02/24/11 11:26 AM
really wish co-op was available in franchise

I believe it was said they hope to get it in next year.
Can't get everything we want in the game every year. One things for sure though...if we want it and it can fit in the schedule AND it makes since to spend the time on it....SCEA will add it.

# 40 WAZ @ 02/24/11 02:20 PM
Jesus, guys... would it have been better to not include co-op at all?

Didn't think so.
