That's not what people are asking The Show to be more like. There, I said it, and that's what I truly believe.

Long drawn-out stories that will get repetitive by the second or third time you hear them are NOT going to make good commentary in a video game.

This works in real life because the guys on NESN or whatever channel are human beings and not limited to the amount of speech you can speak. In real life you'd never hear a broadcaster tell a long story about a player on Game 1 of the season and then again on Game 2 of the season and again on Game 5, Game 7, Game 10 of the season (you get the idea). In in a videogame due to only so much voice that can be recorded it would happen ALL the time and would be incredibly irritating.

I get the idea of what you're saying and I'm all for more interaction between the commentators, but not in the form of long drawn-out stories that you'll hear once every few games if you consistently use the same team.

On that note, I will say that I don't mind The Show's commentary that much. I think it's good at making observations about what's going on in the game, although I do definitely see the 'disconnect' sometimes that ruins the immersion.

In regards to the commentary, what is missing from the Show is dynamic commentary, its not immersive enough for me. After a while it gets very repetitive and I always wish that they'd actually mention my achievements (RTTS player) or how I'm tearing up the league or something that isn't the standard 'he's hit 7 dingers this month alone'. I mean they don't even have any commentary directly relating to some0one chasing a record apart from the 'Hr #' line we get after a homer. If I'm up to bat with 499 career homers, I want them to talk about it. Hell I want them to address me as the reigning MVP or a potential hall of famer.

Thatsd proper immersion for me and unfortunately ther Show will never be perfect in my eyes until the commentary reflects the astonishing qualities of everything else.

Ya that first video wasn't the greatest example of was I was looking for and I agree that long story's like that would get old fast. The other 2 video clips describe much better was I was talking about in regards to how quick Lyons comments on the play outcomes and how it blends in so naturally with the broadcast

Graphics look great, but I agree that the commentary needs an overhaul. Replacing Rex was essential, but it still doesn't seem to flow very well.

I invite anyone that wants to discuss commentary to go to this thread

Don't think it needs an overhaul. Maybe fine tuning.

I have yet to hear a stellar commentary system that is unmatched in sports gaming. MLB2K10 and the FIFA series are excellent but even they became repetitive.

Back to game at hand....props for posters pointing out size of OF now in the game. Just noticed that it does seem vast out in Yankee Stadium.

so i take it the sound guys aren't baseball fans?

just joshing.

In any event, good news to hear the sound will finally hopefully get an upgrade.
Now, it 10, I do hear some nice crowd swelling during big spots.

I'd LOVE some confirmation on this Nem - if it was put in the final build or not. Chris, Kolbe, Russ??

I just wish the batters would actually take warm up swings instead of looking like statues in the batter box, looks awkward

I'm sure that SCEA has some calculations running in the background which brings out an actual "intensity" number, and then they have a few if-else statements to say how loud the crowd should be based on the intensity level. Such factors would include the count, number of outs, inning, who's up to bat, what teams are playing each other, what time of the year, etc. So maybe it's not the crowd noise itself that needs to be risen because they do tend to have pretty loud moments at times, but their "intensity" formula might have to be adjusted to cue that something like this in a Boston-New York game has an increased rivalry factor going for them.
I remember that vid!...seems like yesterday

as for crowd....it's not *raising* the volume that bothers me..it's *WHEN* its raised.....i played another game today...yanks/sox...in yankee stadium...1-0 yanks...top 6th....sox get 2 on with 1 out.......yanks turn 2, inning over...crowd barely reacted.....

# 115 Lewis160 @ 02/20/11 09:33 PM
Is it just me or the crowd reacts to the pitches at the same time it lands in the catchers mitt. How do they know if its a strike or ball, Isnt it suppose to be the umpires calls that will stir the crowd good or bad.

Haha I know, that's what I mean. That "intensity" factor needs to be formulated the right way.

Karros is a great addition at least shows that they've tried to improve the commmetry.. But he sounds like he's not even in the same broadcast booth. Overall I rate this game a 9.5! .5 off bcuz of the commetry.
Thank you for your professional and intuitive rating of a game that isn't even out yet

I'm just going to bring up another game real quick. NBA 2k11.

Ok, with that said, I'm amazed at what these two games have done in a years time with an already great product.

They really have said, "you CAN make a great game in a years time." The other companies out there should take notes.

It also shows how much competition can do for games. It's only going to make for a better product.

Kudos to Sony for setting the bar again.

That's funny, because I think they take too many warmup swings! I'm ready to pitch and have to wait for them to finish their little rituals.
