Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters Blog, written by Christian Brandt, Designer
This is Christian Brandt from the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters game team. I’m one of the Designers on the game, and will be updating you with announcements and news in the coming months leading up to launch. This time of the year is always the best, because we get to show everyone what we have been working on.
As many of you might have heard, this will be the first time in history that Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament will appear in our game! This has been the most requested feature by golf fans for over a decade. We are extremely excited to bring the course to digital form and share it with the public. Players of all ages have been dreaming of the opportunity to play the famous Augusta National Golf Club, and now it will be possible in just a few months.
Our environment team has been working hand and hand with the team at Augusta to get the course looking exactly like the real thing. The process started by using our new laser scanning technology to scan every hole, which took about 10 days. Then in combination with 100+ man hours by our environment and art teams plus with the help of the staff at Augusta National, we were able to create an authentic representation down to 6MM of accuracy. Every slope, bunker, tree, and green undulation will be in the game. This is the most beautiful course we’ve ever created in our game with unique flowers on almost every hole. Not only do we have the full 18-hole course, but also the Par 3 course that traditionally plays host to the Par 3 Contest the Wednesday before the Masters begins.
We’re also very excited to bring you new Tournament course conditions when playing the course. We worked with Augusta to get the green and fairway speeds just right. Remember the 2005 Tiger Woods chip against Chris DiMarco on the 16th hole? Tiger aimed about 15 feet wide of the hole knowing how fast the greens would move. He chipped the ball to the left side of the green and let the slope do the rest. The ball dropped in the cup and the crowd went wild. That can be done in the game with the spot-on recreation of the green slopes and speed. Also watch out for Rae’s creek when playing one of the most famous holes in golf with its swirling winds, Golden Bell. Check out some of the images from number 12 below.
Standing there on the tee alongside your caddie in his white jumpsuit with Jim Nantz and David Feherty in the booth just brings everything together perfectly. We can’t wait until everyone gets their chance to experience the history and tradition of Augusta National in Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters on March 29th! Make sure to stay tuned for upcoming blogs and new features. Get ready because Augusta National, Amen Corner, the Green Jacket, and the Masters are coming your way!
