MLB 11 The Show News Post

In this weeks' OS Roundtable, some members of the staff discuss what they think of The Show's move to analog controls.

What are your thoughts?

Quote:
"Dustin Toms: Personally I'm not too fond of the move. I think it is a step in the right direction for SCEA, but I have never been a big fan of analog sticks controlling most of the actions in sports games. I will admit that I love the shot stick in NBA 2K11, but other than that I like to keep it old school with the buttons. Last year's game was a great game, but it was still a disappointment to me. I was expecting something great, something fantastic, but instead I got a lot of the same. Hopefully the new analog controls it will kick out the staleness that The Show had last year and give it some new life.

Steve Noah: I think it is a welcome addition, and one that is long overdue. It gives us another option, and I mention "option" only because if it is something I don't like, I'll just use the old control system. I know it will take some time to get used to, but I think it's great that the team is giving us something different. A check swing will be a lot easier to execute using the sticks, as opposed to a button press. (I've always had a check-swing issue with The Show series. Maybe it's my strong thumb.)"

It's never a bad idea to add options. Everything you could do in 10 you can do in 11.

Anyways the main reason I'll probably not use analog hitting is they added true zone hitting which is what I prefer.

How people can be upset or so closed minded about something that is an option is beyond me. Those who do not want it...... Don't use it, you still have the option to use the old hitting and pitching system.

Having the analog controls will not hurt or have any bearing on your game for not using it. I never thought I would see the day when gamers did not want options.

But I as far as I remember, everybody at the Community Event were unanimous that the implementation was right on !!!

It's fun.
Take that from a guy who doesn't play that much.(manage only mode)
In co-op...I loved it.

Ha...yeah.
Ramone was kind enough to take me on as the anchor on his team.
Not anchor as in steadying force...but anchor as .....draggin' him down to the ocean floor!

Let's touch the MLB11 analog options..

MLB'11 Analog Pitching:
Before or while in game you can select a different set of difficulty, Rookie, Vet, Allstar, HoF & Legend. Now if you still cannot adjust or simply do not like the new controls you can go back and play with MLB10,9,8,7,6, set of controls.

MLB'11 Analog Fielding:
Before or while in game you can select/save a different set of difficulty, Rookie, Vet, Allstar, HoF & Legend. Now if you still cannot adjust or simply do not like the new controls you can go back and play with MLB10,9,8,7,6, set of controls.

MLB'11 Analog Batting:
Before or while in game you can select/save a different set of difficulty, Rookie, Vet, Allstar, HoF & Legend. Now if you still cannot adjust or simply do not like the new controls you can go back and play with MLB10,9,8,7,6, set of controls.

MLB'11 Controller Enable/Disable Options:
You can either select based on your likings. Either 3 of 3 analog, 2 of 3 analog, 1 of 3 analog or go completely 0 of 0 therefore offering you the original facebutton/classic option(s).

Personally I'm all in. I feel SCEA's Rock & Fire mechanic method adapted from MVP NCAA 07 will be a quality improvement. Plus it will add that extra zest for that deeper user control feel. Which will be tweaked accordingly year to year if need be.

Hahaha!
I didn't know you can take an extra lead in this game! My players always do it on their own in Manage only Mode.

Ramone's face was priceless though.
Sort of like..."I know firemen are idiots, but c'mon!"

If you would rather have the PS3 do the hitting/pitching for you, then I understand the argument (or 'tentativeness') against analog. Why would anybody see anything wrong with taking some of the variables of baseball out of the hands of the invisible hand of the playstation and into the hands of the user? If your argument is because you're not used to it, then that's a valid point considering it's a NEW feature.

Analog looks to improve upon the biggest fault of sports games: the lack of control the user has on the mechanics of the players on the field. If you don't have good coordination, then there's nothing wrong with going back to the X button, but does that really justify criticism of analog implementation???
