IGN has just posted some new details on Fight Night Champion, focusing on Build a Champion and Create Your Legacy modes.

Quote:
"Hayes promises Legacy Mode is greatly improved. "Legacy Mode is the only place you can go to create a boxer and fight your way through the division rankings, trying to become a champion, a Hall-of-Famer or potentially the Greatest Of All Time," he told IGN.

You'll notice the difference the moment you step into the ring as an amateur. There's now authentic amateur gear and scoring, which should help that first year of development fell less like the beginning of a Karate Kid movie and more like the real deal.

Unlike Legacy Mode, which has you create your own fighter from scratch and guide his career and development, Champion Mode is a scripted story. Following the career of up-and-comer Andre Bishop, Champion Mode offers something totally new for the Fight Night franchise – a character with a personality, a background, a family, and believable emotions.

Hayes described the story for IGN: "Andre is an outstanding boxing talent. He and his younger brother Raymond are trained by Gus Carisi. Gus used to train their father, who was also a promising boxer at one time. Andre has tremendous potential and DL McQueen, a promoter, is bent on controlling his career. Andre and Gus aren't interested in working with McQueen and the story centers around the struggles Andre faces trying to reach his potential with a variety of obstacles thrown in his way."

Problem is we are not getting what should have been in the game a few years ago.
Exactly! I dont understand the whole "Our Legacy mode is still barebones and our fans have been demanding an excellent one as their #1 wish outside of gameplay fixes, but **** that lets try this new Story mode. Yeah! this will bring us more money-umm i mean customers."

The truth of the matter is that the legacy mode is still gonna be lacking. And the fact you have to earn One punch power and stuff like that is sooo arcade, like "I just reached level 10! yeah now i'm strong." barf

In the end, it's a business... so EA is going down the path it thinks will improve sales the most. While I would prefer a deeper legacy mode, I truly believe that a well done story mode will attract more new fans to the series than a deep legacy mode. I can't be mad at EA for doing what they're doing.

And even though I'd love to believe that legacy mode is at the top of their list for their next installment of the series, I doubt that's the case. From a business perspective, they'll probably spend more of their resources on online since that's the direction the gaming industry is moving toward. I just don't foresee us hardcore boxing fans getting the deep legacy mode that we desire anytime soon.

Lets be honest, how many "casual" gamers have you seen actually sat thru a cut scene?

Prize Fighter didnt sell well and im not sure how well the Rocky games sold but I highly doubt a story mode will = more sells...

Im sure the mode will something nice to play thru once but I am with the crowd that says master on mode then add, dont stack on mediorce...Good example is NBA 2K, great game but My Player and Association needs major attention...

Wow, it's rated M.

Man they are taking the wrong direction here IMO. I don't want a movie in a sports game, I want to realistic gameplay, smart AI, and a decent career mode.

What about this trailer led you to believe it doesn't have both?

Im sure like others he mean he'd rather have big upgrades to legacy rather then this mode, legacy is basically the same except some new bells and whistles....

After seeing these trailers, I wish they would have merged the two modes together.. Now that would have been sweet....

Oh well, I'm still getting it.. Hopefully next version will be more like Boxers Road with dieting and such...

Totally pumped for this title.

It will be the best boxing game we have ever had. The Story mode is a bonus and it looks great. All the fuss is just crazy.

I don't think any games will ever meet the expectations of some people.....ever.

Hopefully Legacy mode is improved as the Dev's say. But more importantly the gameplay physics and new TPC system is tight and responsive. That more than anything is the key for me. Does the game give us a great sim of the sport of boxing. FN4 was he best I had ever played so if this improves upon it I will be in heaven.

Once a sports title is rated M then it is no longer a sports title. To integrate RPG element in a career mode is what should have been done. But to waste time and money on a whole new mode while your legacy/presentation mode is and have been severely lacking is a step in the wrong direction. Maybe they need to talk to the guys over at Live so they can tell them not to try and change stuff to try and so call get more 'casual' fans because history shows it doesn't work. If they would focus on making me 'feel' like I am a real boxer like NBA 2k11 or The Show make people 'feel' like they in their respective game then sales would increase. The blueprint to a successful sports title is 3 major things only.

1. Gameplay - this is on the right track

2. Presentation - give me some dynamic commentary ie story lines about my opponent and myself. Talk about other upcoming boxers. Give me cut scenes in the locker room where the ref is given instructions while the undercard fight is on etc

3. Career(legacy) mode - There is more to boxing training than doing the same 5-6 things over and over again. Let me have real training options just like in real life. Diet is absolutely fundamental in boxing. There are boxing games that have been out for years have a better career mode .

And the fact they have a 2 year cycle while 2k11 and The Show only has 1 makes this even more pathetic. Let me just say again that 2ksports listen to their hardcore gamers while making 2k11 and it paid off. We know what we want so stop trying to over analyzes things. Again your foundation should be to make the most realistic boxing ever in the ring and out and then add elements like casual settings, auto training etc so that the casual fan can pickup and play also so until they focus more on presentation and career they will continue to have problems pleasing the hard core fans which are the foundation of your product without that foundation you will fail plain and simple
