I don't doubt you (that's why I used to do it), but this isn't the case for Halladay anyway. Look up any picture of him or just watch him live, it's never out. And while most ballplayers who do this do it for that reason, I don't think it's fact that most ballplayers do this. I know I don't anymore. A batting glove underneath is good enough.
Most pitchers keep their index finger in their gloves. They want to avoid tipping any pitches at all costs.
Yeah, Doc doesn't do it that I have seen. So props to 2k there. I used to wear a batting glove and put my index finger out. It just gave me a better grip on my glove. I even did it when I was a catcher. Not many catchers do it.
It looks great for sure. But these initial screens we often get shown early in a games development rarely demonstrate the actual visuals experienced in the final product.
I always reserve my judgement until we start getting proper gameplay pics/videos come through.

Agreed, their initial pics always look extremely good but never seems to make its way into the final product.
This series has always had a tough time with gloves for some reason.
Your not lying brother...I dont get it myself. It literally looks like players field with some of grandmas old oven mitts. I have seen waaaaay better gloves from a ps1 game. But hey, I could care less if the final product is a legit representation of baseball.

It cant be a legit representation with those ugly gloves..as a baseball player im really passionate about this..i say we protest til they fix the gloves!! lol..unless they just make the best baseball game ever
It looks overly-smooth because of the Blur-Effect 2k uses during replay still shots. They have been using that technique for a while now. It's suppose to give off this realistic effect when a close-up is used. (Everything blurs-out except the actual image)
What you're describing is a Depth Of Field blur that is probably accomplished via a shader. In fact, this type of post processing does not remove aliasing. Actually if you apply DOF to a frame along with anti-aliasing you can often get other strange "halo-like" artifacts....
That being said, I can see some aliasing around the edges of the numbers on the back of the Jersey, but not much. All things considered, this looks like an improvement!

Thanks for clarifying my post Woodweaver. Appreciate it
I don't remember the last time I actually looked at the details of a glove while playing a baseball game and I play them all the time. Usuually the camera is zoomed out too far to focus on such things anyway.

Yeah, everyone has different things.
I think the thing with the gloves and other gear (at least for me anyway) isn't that it's something I'd normally focus on, but that the textures are so poor they draw attention to it. In other words, when it's right, you don't pay attention...and 2K's aren't right.
It's the same with the color palette and fonts. I don't spend too much time firing up a game and trying to pinpoint the difference in shades of red or blue, but when a team's colors aren't right, I immediately notice. If the numbers take up an entire players back, I notice.
That said, I can certainly look past it if the game is up to snuff. The rest of the visuals are fine, with the stadiums taking the biggest step forward and looking mostly great last year IMO.
