REDWOOD CITY, Calif., - October 19, 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced that EA SPORTS™ MMA is available in stores throughout North America starting today and will launch worldwide beginning October 22 and in Japan on November 11. EA SPORTS MMA, offering the most authentic, intense and broadest mixed martial arts experience to date, allows players to travel the world and learn a multitude of fighting techniques and skills. The game features a vast array of world-class fighters, and players can extend their gaming experience online through a first-of-its-kind feature - EA SPORTS Live Broadcast.

Fighters can further showcase their MMA skills to the world through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast in which players can create their own fighter and then produce a hype video to get noticed by an actual EA SPORTS promoter. Once selected by the EA SPORTS promoter, players will be able to have their fight broadcast online through EA SPORTS Live Broadcast, while a live commentator calls every move made during the fight. Moreover, each EA SPORTS Live Broadcast fight can be viewed on game consoles or online via the web.

“EA SPORTS MMA is the most immersive and authentic mixed martial arts experience available, bringing together great fighters, opportunities to train and fight internationally and features that allow players to prove their skills online to a wide audience,” said EA SPORTS MMA Executive Producer Dale Jackson. “EA SPORTS is excited to bring this highly anticipated title to mixed martial arts fans and help grow the popularity of the sport worldwide.”

EA SPORTS MMA provides the definitive mixed martial arts experience, featuring multiple disciplines, rule sets, locations and fighters from all over the world. Players can fight in a ring, hexagonal or circular cage, and the MMA environment comes to life with ring girls, corner men and referees. Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. provides fighter introductions while Big John McCarthy officiates fights and MMA legend Frank Shamrock and commentator Mauro Ranallo call the action.

Through career mode, fighters will be able to train in locations around the world with legends of the sport such as Randy Couture, Pat Miletich, Rickson Gracie and Bas Rutten, visiting gyms in Japan, Brazil, Thailand and the U.S. While training internationally, players will teach their fighter new skills as they rise up the ranks to make it to one of the biggest stages in MMA – STRIKEFORCE.

Other key features within EA SPORTS MMA include:
  • Fighter Share – Players can put themselves into the world of MMA training and fighting and begin the quest to become a champion. They can upload photos of themselves and use Photo Game Face to create their own, personalized roster of fighters. Display and share these create-a-fighters via Fighter Share by uploading and browsing other created fighters. In addition, through Fighter Share players can download and try out any fighters created by the passionate EA SPORTS MMA community.
  • Customize Your Own Fight Card – Become a promoter and set up a night of fights with your friends. With the ability to host four fights per card with up to 10 people connected*, players can challenge each other to fights, and talk trash while friends provide commentary to the fight.
  • Total Strike Control – Through an intuitive control system for striking, elbow, knees and kicks, players can go on the offensive with Total Strike Control, providing the utmost flexibility for their fighters. EA SPORTS MMA also provides the flexibility for those who prefer fighting using face buttons with the Classic Control scheme.
Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange Program brought to you by EA SPORTS MMA

Announced on October 11, EA SPORTS will be sponsoring the Sherdog MMA Fighter Exchange program, which mirrors EA SPORTS MMA’s career mode where young fighters travel the globe to learn various martial arts disciplines.

The program gives four up-and-coming fighters the opportunity to learn new fighting techniques and disciplines while training with STRIKEFORCE MMA superstars that appear in EA SPORTS MMA. Two North American fighters will train in Japan and Brazil under the tutelage of Luke Rockhold and Jason “Mayhem” Miller, while two international fighters, will be mentored by Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the U.S.

Sherdog.com will provide a behind-the-scenes look throughout the fight camps with blog and video coverage of the fighters. After weeks of training, the four fighters will make their STRIKEFORCE debut, as an undercard, during the December 4 fight featuring Dan Henderson vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, which will be streamed online by Sherdog.com.

EA SPORTS MMA will be available on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the iPhone® and iPod® touch.

Pretty much the same with my guy. Undefeated at 15-0 with all by submission, 14 in the first round. The fights have gotten tougher and my most recent one was against someone who could actually hold their own on the ground and it took me to the 2nd round to sub him.

My guy's chin is awful though. If I try and stand with anyone, one clean shot will send my guy into a rocked state. Its happened in at least 6 fights.

Exactly! If I try and mash I'll get rocked pretty easily.

I messed around with Overeem against Rogers and was doing ok with strikes but Rogers would win more often than not...I need to work on my stand up game a bit more before jumping levels I think.

Wow, put it on Hard and was my Career guy (big sub specialist) vs. Militich for like an hour...

I can beat him with subs sometimes, but it takes me a lot longer to get them to work (and usually it's the limb, not the chokes...I can do great defending the chokes, but on the harder level it seems so tough to get them to sink in)

Standup is harsh....I've tried to use points to get my chin better, but man I get rocked so easily....is there a good way to make a guy decent at subs but that isn't tissue paper standup? Do I pick something other than BJJ as my base?

Fun game still...just gotta balance my career fighter somehow...sucks not being able to stand up at all

Also, subs seem really hard on hard...it's way easy on medium, but really tough on hard, no middle ground at all...how do you manage to sink in any chokes on hard? It seems like the CPU is awesome on the stick rotation and it's impossible

Is there any advice anywhere here on how to fight standup? I tried taking Fedor against people on medium and a lot of them just always try taking me down. I've gotten good at avoiding takedowns, but it seems impossible to sit and punch...whenever I get anywhere near in range to throw punches that might land they either try and clinch or takedown. I can't really throw combinations or anything, and if it somehow gets to be an exchange I end up getting rocked and KO'ed.

I've gone through the tutorial mode in career where you learn the buttons, but whenever I try feinting or anything it doesn't seem to be beneficial. They just always try the takedown. I know I can then use the ground game, but I'm trying to work on being able to box/kick and not suck.

Does any CPU guy ever actually throw punches? Or are they always just looking for clinches or takedowns?

I never really had a problem with UFC, but I just can't seem to get anything to click here with regards to standup...it's weird, i'm sure I'm just missing something....

Play against fedor and you will see him throwing a lot. I think however your problem is that you have taken Fedor. If I was against him I would also try to take him down, so.

Hmmm yeah, I'll try picking someone else against Fedor and see if that helps, thanks.

This is my BIGGEST issue with the game by far....I created Shogun Rua muay thai fighter, and all he does on HARD level is try to engage the muay thai clinch and it will work 9 times out of 10. Frustrating and not balanced at all. I asked here how to stop the clinch and someone said to use the sprawl button. makes no difference whatsoever....

if anyone has an idea to stop the cpu from clinch-whoring you on HARD level let me know...

Hit the sprawl button. You need to make sure you arent blocking and that you time it early enough. The higher your defense stat the bigger your window to defend is. After 4-5 straight blocked attempts they ease up for a while.

thanks....will give that a try....at least it's good to know the cpu will back off if they are unsuccessful

The beauty of this game, the CPU is always reacting. I like to lead with a job w/ my career mode fighter. After about 5 times of that, the CPU begins parrying or blocking the jab and countering.

You'd be best waiting for the patch and making sure they actually address some of the key issues. The game certainly has a lot of potential, but a proper patch is a must first.

Is it even possible to win via submission on hard or legendary? No matter what the hell I do I can never sink in a choke or limb lock...

On medium it was simple, basically if I got it on I'd submit them...up it to hard with my maxed out sub guy against Lyman Good and he refuses to submit to anything....

Is there something more than just getting in the right positions and executing? I try and get their stamina down but that doesn't seem to help much...

I am enjoying this game but I will say that their difficulty levels suck hardcore. Medium is sooooo easy but Hard is way way harder than medium....IMO they need a way to let people ramp up in difficulty, not get frustrated because nothing that worked on the prior level works here....

Is there some trick? Just doesn't seem to work, and now my sub guy is useless because he can't stand up to save his life (gets rocked after like 3 punches)...Very frustrating to say the least...I would think a 100 sub guy should be able to submit a 41 sub guy, you know?

I think I'm going to grab this on Black Friday when it's on sale for $34.99.

Choke should be your only problem with higher difficulties. Whats happening with limb submissions? If you tap the button slowly you will tap them within 30 seconds or so max. They wont get into a submission battle like a person can. Are you gassing yourself out or are they just escaping?

Quick advice, dont tap real fast to start the battle. Tap just enough to keep the battle going, the cpu will gas pretty quickly. Thats when you tap faster to lock in but dont button mash to lock in either.

Yeah, I'll mess around with it. Thanks. I've been using my career fighter in play now mode, so that may be my issue...

I don't seem to be gassing, I keep the battle going and eventually it ends with me still having stamina.
