Ordinarily in basketball, a delay of game penalty costs a team no more than a free throw and possession of the ball. But when the delayed game is NBA Elite 11, the punishment could be more severe.
Quote:
"In a note to investors, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said the delay could cost publisher Electronic Arts as much as $60 million. Pachter lowered his holiday quarter revenue projections for the publisher from $1.52 billion to $1.46 billion, reflecting the loss of 1.1 million sales of NBA Elite 11.
Perhaps worse, Pachter thinks the game's 2011 first quarter sales will now be less than before, even with the game presumably launching in that window. In revising his figures, Pachter said he only expects the game to sell 500,000 copies at launch. When NBA Elite 11 was still set for an October launch, Pachter had expected sales of 550,000 for the January-March quarter. He even raised the prospect of it being canceled outright."
Nah they wont lose that much all that have to do is put out HD NBA jam for 50-60 bucks with all the game modes and it might end up selling more than elite would have for this quarter. Then add in a nba elite playoff version for next year and some nba related dlc for nba jam and theyll be fine, i know the suits are doing someting to recoup.
1.1 million copies projected? Come on, son! I know most gaming consumers don't study to the extent we do, but they probably would check this title out before purchase, simply because it's a rebooted franchise. There isn't anything that had been written previous to the delay that would give a postive light on the title. It would have had a hard time doing 500,000 copies. EA knew this and pulled the plug. And nobody, including M.P. even knows what it means saying that the game will come out in 2011. Could be 4th quarter, which means NBA Elite 12. He made all of this up out of thin air. Pachter is, once again, just trying to be important. Dumb analyst, dumb article.

Sorry bud but an off topic question for you. Is the yellow font in your sig intentional?
WOW that's alot of Cheese... I just hope they learn that trying to buy out the comp and a good move ya reap what ya sow. First College, then Lack of sales for Tiger, Now this, Madden's next..
Cmon Son!!!! 60 million. EA is seriously loaded. 60 mill man thats alot of money. Wonder what elite 12 is going to be like. Question does anyone thing they make a ea or 2k sports title compatiable with the ipad our the new tablets being released???
Honest for the short term the loss of money will somewhat hurt them for a while. But if they fix all the problems they are having with it right now and improve it. It will be good for them in the long run money wise for the fans of NBA elite.
come on son u expected live to sell 500k first week? hell nah live 10 sold like only 100k first week with both consoles combined, elite wont gonna sell at all probably like 20k at launch, these dudes dont know numbers
I hope this doesn't fall on the devs. It was obvious they were put in a difficult spot - completely rebuilding an entire basketball engine in the span of a few months. I'm sure they did the best they could all things considered. I'd hate to see those guys lose their jobs over this.

Agreed. I feel badly for the dev team. Blame this one squarely on the EA brass and their complete lack of direction and planning.
