Check out the latest NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, featuring NBA Today 2.0 and new audio details.

"Another area of expansion was the context we wanted to bring to our Leaderboards and Standings analysis, since it's such a big part of the NBA Today experience as well as in Association. The relevance of having your team in the top 5 in a certain stat category in November versus late in March has different implications, and we wanted to bring that perspective to our analysis. As we all know, those teams that can turn it up for the last half of the season have the momentum advantage, so we added a "Since All-Star Break" timeframe. You'll also hear contextual breakdowns across the "Last 10 Games" and "Over the Last Month", as well as the standard timeframes of "This Season" and "Last Season". Kevin Harlan and Clark Kellogg are able to provide a more granular and insightful perspective with this added level of detail. Throughout the year, you also will see a larger variety of teams and players being recognized on the leaderboards, when they turn it up a notch during various periods of the NBA season."
It's a wrap. All this comes together right. NBA 2K11 is the new NFL2K5.
Not yet unfortunately, that presentation level is still unsurpassed:
2k5 had a halftime and a full time show, 2k11 only the former
2K5 had a score ticker with updates on games in progress, then there was sportcenter to wrap up the week, 2k11 has updates at half time but won't recap the games of the day
2k5 had a studio host, 2k11 has only voiceover
That being said, 2k11 is head and shoulders above today's sport games in terms of presentation, but there's much room for improvements.
at BluebGold. That's exactly how i feel after reading that....
My only question is how the hell do these guys find the time to do all this in one development cycle and how do they fit this much awesomeness on one disc?!

I don't think you can fault 2K11 for not taking the exact same approach; that shouldn't be what's expected. You're also discounting important presentation elements that 2K11 does that 2K5 doesn't, which are really too numerous to name. Things such as:
- arena specific sounds
- branching conversation topics
- all the post game stuff (pressbook, signature highlights, etc.)
- all the NBA Today specific stuff which is specific to a person's Association or the live league
I love 2K5 as much as the next person but it's a matter of different approaches. I don't think 2K11 (or any other game) should be expected to do every exact little thing 2K5 did and then some. They may never want to have a digital representation of a studio host for example. But I agree w/you, there'll always be room for improvement. And ultimately I agree that 2K11's head and shoulders (and I'd throw in torso) above what today's sports games are doing presentation-wise
Great Insight btw; really looking forward to all of the new stadium-specific sounds and NBA Today 2.0

I want all of this in NBA2K12, are you listening 2K devs - this is a presenation goal for next year, or if you could patch some of it in this year would be great too.
That seals it. The around the league stuff and the awareness of the progressive/dynamic commentary and analysis definitely give this game a shot at defining sports game presentation. I cannot wait for this game.
One stupid question: Are these scores and highlights during halftime from REAL NBA games, or games that exist in our franchises? I dont want to watch real (actual) video highlights from the NBA. I hope this is all generated by the game engine as a part of our individual in-game seasons.
This statement from Adholbert32, who has the game, answers your "stupid" question and is quite concerning:
Quote:
There are no other scores at least not in the two assoc games I ran. No other game video highlights or even an other game scorebard. Maybe I'm doing something wrong because in the last game I played, there were 2 games already finished before my team's game and the halftime report did not mention them.
Looks like this is just for real NBA games, which kinda sucks. I want to see Around the League in my Association as well.
I know the half-time show is in the game complete with "commercials" between quarters but I really hope Around the League and those season stat overlays are in the game too.

You're right and I was well aware of discounting presentation elements totally absent in 2k5, because we're comparing two games one of which is six years younger than the other and has had the benefit of being developed using more powerful hardware.
So even the Around the League game will be in? I read in the Q&A from baseball guy that he's played a couple of Association games and they have featured the half-time show but NOT the Around the League part.
Well the video shown here in this thread seems to indicate that the out of town highlights are generated IN-GAME. They are not "live" video streamed from real NBA games. Which i hope also means that the scores being shown around the league are not from the real NBA, but rather from out Association mode games. I didn't buy 2K10 last year, so i dont really know what NBA Today is all about. Does this mean that you are only playing games that exist on that calendar day in the real NBA? I dont really care about that. I want a living breathing franchise with all the score, stats and highlights coming from the game engine - not streamed from the real life NBA.
