Check out the latest NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, discussing the art of passing.

Quote:
"Steve Nash, John Stockton, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd. When you read these names one of the first things that should enter your mind is their amazing passing ability. They’ve got the innate gift of hitting players right where the ball needs to be. They not only complete the pass but also put receivers in position to make the next move. With this being said, has a player’s passer rating ever really mattered in a basketball videogame to this extent? Sure, it might have been factored into whether or not a player will be able to throw a good alley-oop or dish off a fancy pass. But in the end, couldn’t you throw a 35 foot chest pass to a covered receiver with the same accuracy using Steve Nash as you could with, say, Joel Przybilla? The answer is a resounding yes, but in 2K11, pass ratings matter in almost every aspect of throwing the ball. Whether you’re trying to thread the needle on a pass to the interior or you’re attempting to pass out of a shot, the passing ability of the ball-handler now matters. It determines whether or not the pass will be clean or will force the receiver to adjust his stance to catch the ball. The receiver might have to lean or the pass might force him to adjust so much that he bobbles the ball (which in turn can be retrieved by anyone). Many factors come into play here other than the pass rating, such as the distance to the receiver and how open the receiver is where he’s supposed to catch the ball. It’s amazing the difference this has made to the passing game and we’re very happy that pass ratings finally matter."

Shaping up very very nicely, indeed.

I'm telling you now, you will not want to see Rose/Boozer played by ClucthAce1914 this year.

It's nice that better passer will make a difference this year. I'm really glad that Al Jefferson, Zach Randolph and Amar'e Stoudemire will no longer pass like their Chris Paul or Deron Williams. It annoyed the hell out of me to see those guys get 4 or 5 assists because the passer rating was broken.

I like the mentions of the post game. Against the cpu, I use the post game a lot, because 2k has so many moves. But against human players, it's harder to play that way because the logic to double is revved up tremendously. All in all great insight, I look forward to seeing at it all comes together. oh one last thing, glad the alley-oop logic got a rewrite, I hope over all alley-oops are done with greater justice because last year it was just painful to have an opportunity to get one off only to have chris duhon break it up. 6 more weeks til' gametime.....

As one of those guys who get more enjoyment out of a pass than a shot, this insight touched me in a way no other insight has so far.

I wonder if the positioning of a pass to a shooter affects his rhythm?

Even if not, thank you Zach and all else who worked on this important aspect of the game!

Man with all these changes I'm going to be in practice mode for quite awhile and that's not a bad thing

As a SIM baller I know you need to see for yourself. But from what I played its legit for the both the cpu and the user. Bad passers making difficult passes take guys out of the great position they had to score. I have seen it more than a few times.

I know some of the control scheme is going to confuse the heck out of me at first but since I did play Live last year I cant wait to try out the some of the right stick passing.

It was one of my favorite additions to basketball and it makes transitioning a ton better.

Something new that we’ve never done before is allow the ability to fake a pass while in the post, ala Pau Gasol. This will keep the players engaged and will add another element of versatility to the moves in the post game.
Oh yeah! This is something I felt missing from last year's post-up moves. This new passing system should expand the Lakers's triangle offense.

I agree, one of the best insights that I have ever read ... and he didnt even mentioned all they did ... it has me more than hyped again (and I though nothing would surpass the MJ effect).

On the other hand, what has made me a little precaucious is that with all this new arsenal: fake passes - lob passes - bounce passes - hand tips passes - wràp passes - kick out passes ... they have seem to make the post game even more dominant ? (I am guessing that they have also addressed the offensive moves downlow) ... hope that the effectiveness of the passing rating really comes into play (and that the post defense and help defense were also addressed) or it would be even more enticing to go for a paint fest.

Guys who like the triangle are in for a treat this year. Without the magic speed recovery that is in 2k10. And with the improved spacing in 2k11 double teaming has a consequence from what I experienced.

The combination of improved footplanting. lack of superhuman recovery speed and better spacing on offense means that if you have the personel your going to be able to punish bad double teams and get high percentage open shots if you have the guys to knock them down.

Also they have accurately replicated some of the other issues that arise form ill timed double teams like getting beat on the offensive glass... of course that depends on matchups as well but if they double you will can get open shots.

Sweet. So glad they've addressed the overhead dealy. And seems like the graphics took a slight leep as well. Game looks WAY different now.

Wow. Chris Paul looks a lot like Chris Paul now, and not that...monkey thing from before.

And I friggin' love his (and only his) kicks. What I don't love is Al Jefferson rocking OUR Jazz unis, but that's more a gripe with Utah than with 2K11.

(highlight the below for off-topic ranting on the Jazz)
Damn it, that color, that name belongs to New Orleans. Jazz has nothing to do with Utah. It's New Orleans birthright to bear that name. Not friggin' Utah. I got nothin' against Utah, but give us back our team name! It's a friggin' mockery, I tells ya! Pistol Pete must be turning over in his grave.

Or you could look at it as this making the game have a more true to life inside out game.

I think they did do an insight on defense so im sure some counters are in place
