Quick update for Madden fans

First off, you may or may not have noticed some news that was recently propped to your consoles regarding online quitters. The number one issue that we heard loud and clear out of the community was that rampant quitting had become a major problem in the online experience, both in ranked games and Madden Ultimate Team games. Well we were able to work on this over the last week and then deploy some quick fixes to the server to help deter this practice. The fixes were as follows:

1. Any quitter / disconnecter in a ranked game will automatically be given a loss. The victim will automatically be given a win.

2. We are currently monitoring the leaderboards and planning on zero’ing out the stats of any accounts found to be using quitting tactics (via high DNF / win percentages and game logs). This monitoring will be standard practice moving forward as well, as we have built in notifications to our server team that will automatically zero out any folks caught “boosting”, or using one account to quit immediately and award a win.

3. In a Madden Ultimate Team game, a person quitting will have a game burned off of his contracts for the players in the game to discourage this practice. The victim will always receive coins, prorated based on the percentage complete of the game (i.e. if it’s the 1st quarter, he’ll only get ¼ of the coins he would have gotten if he were to finish, if it’s at the end of the game, he’ll get ~90%, etc). The same note applies as above on anyone caught “boosting” after this fix is rolled out – they will be punished with bans, contract removals, or any other tactics we see fit.

4. We also found an issue where PDLC OTP boosts were being subtracted incorrectly. Anyone that had this happen has had their boost coin purchase refunded.

One thing I should note is that there is a bit of a trade-off with stats with the auto-loss / auto-win implementation. Since we wanted to roll this out as quickly as possible, there is one thing to be aware of in that average stats will take a hit when a quit occurs. What I mean by this is that if you have played 3 games and are averaging 100 rush yards per game, if a quit occurs, your rush average will drop down to 75 since you have a 4th game with zero stats. We will look into addressing this down the line but we wanted to get the fix out for the quitters as soon as possible.

Moving forward, we are working on addressing some of the most common feedback in upcoming title updates. You all already know that we are planning on releasing an update to enable old-school pre-play controls right around the start of the NFL season, which also will include the brand new Madden Moments LIVE feature where you can replay the top games from each week. In that update we will also have numerous art, gameplay, and stability fixes included as well. Along with that, we have also planned a second update to come towards the end of September. Below is a list of the top priority issues we seem to be hearing the most about that we are looking at:
  • Fixing a bug to allow friend invites to ranked games
  • Generally making pass defense more effective
  • Reducing number of broken tackles
  • Fixing user blitz exploit(s)
  • Tuning injuries
  • Tuning CPU & GameFlow play-calling logic
  • Improving play action blocking
  • Improving kick return blocking
  • Improving online connectivity issues with kick meter lag, media streaming, etc.
  • Random stability improvements
Hopefully this should give you a glimpse of our current priorities and our continued commitment to keeping Madden NFL 11 relevant and giving you an enjoyable experience over the entire year. Improve kickoff returns? I returning to many now. I use niners with Ted Ginn. I just had 3 punt returns for tds last night. One for 106 and the other was last play of the game. The game was tied the punted it and I returned for a td. I use my skill and the run slider is at 18.

I read update on the things they plan to work on for the second patch.The one have item that list I'm having trouble understanding right now is they are working on the pass rush defense. The D Pass rush ain't really the problem at this point. The only problem right now is that the AI QB always throws the ball away when you get near him or throws it away while been sacked. They need to work on that. And please EA do not make the AI D anymore poweful then it already. It's the Human D that is need more work.
But again the AI QB is what the problem is for the lack of D not getting a whole of sacks. I have no problem really getting pass rush pressure on the AI QB. It's just the AI most of the time gets it off and throws into traffic all the time to avoid taking sacks. But other then that. The list looks decent.

I just wanted to post this small quick video as a example why the AI QB needs to be adjusted. As you can clearly see that my linebacker was nearly on top of the vikings QB when he was slipping and once the viking QB got his balance he did a quick throw down field. Throws a glitch throw 50 yards down the field after almost getting sacked and should of been sacked straight up after getting up from sliding in the rain no doubt. So it ain't about the pass rush but the AI programed to take limited sacks and when to take them. The AI needs to be tuned and not pass rush as much. The D pass rush does need a little tuning. But the main problem is with the AI QB never wanting to take sacks when it has to. The AI QB would wheather throw into double and triple coverage then take the sack. EA please look at this video please and take it as a example.

They need to fix:

1) Pass interference on screen passes behind the line of scrimmage. This shouldn't be happening.
2) The referee calling the wrong down after a penalty is accepted/declined.
3) The Doritos Crunch Time play always chooses the last play the user plays. Amazing kneel down!
4) Screen temp. freezing due to loading.

Being able to edit players in Franchise should be added to the patch it can't be that hard to code in.

this patch needs to be major. if i wanted blitz, i'd fire up the ps2 and play it. thankfully, i held off buying this game. we'll see what happens with the patch, i guess.

me either. the demo does a nice job of picking a crucial play to show. however, that doesn't mean something with the retail version couldn't have caused that bug.

I have already posted my feedback last week on their site and will go back and give more things I've found that need patching but in regards to the short list posted, these are the ones I care about:

Generally making pass defense more effective
Reducing number of broken tackles
Tuning injuries
Tuning CPU & GameFlow play-calling logic - I don't use Gameflow but CPU play call logic definitely needs to be fixed
Improving play action blocking
Improving kick return blocking
Random stability improvements

And as for that QB thing, I've definitely spoke about it, already. It's RIDICULOUS how the CPU QB just gets off throws in the middle of being sacked or near sacked yet MY QB can't even come close to getting those type throws off. And the blocking, in general, is lopsided. CPU gets GREAT blocking yet my Jets offensive line has some of the hardest time blocking anyone, including Mangold. Not to mention, lead blockers most times don't have a clue who to block. They seem to get confused and stop then try to go after someone. Sometimes, they're even chasing guys BEHIND and out of the play...

Eh, I'm just going to stop there. This game frustrates me...although I am undefeated on All Pro. I find my way but, still, with a shining example of NCAA 11 that's made by the SAME company with the SAME basic engine with the SAME core gameplay upgrades on the SAME gen of consoles, it just upsets me that Madden doesn't play the same on a basic level because NFL football is my love. I'm a bit heartbroken by this Madden.

I have. At first, it wasn't happening in the retail version, but then it started rearing it's ugly head. Some of the most inconsequential plays getting tossed into the ole Dorito Bag.

This is good to hear for me since I only play online, but does anyone know if they will be patching in the ONLINE STATS TAB (like the one the had in M10, it made it really easy to not only see you stats/played game history, but your opponents as well) I hope they do but doubt they will as I havent seen much from the Madden community on the topic? Does anyone know anything about it getting patched or feel me on this??

Ok, I know these aren't hugely important but as we've listed everything else I'll just add them.

Can we fix the odd celebrations? Like a team celebrating that I stopped their 4th down attempt or that they missed their field goal, or that I got a first down against them etc. This has been going on for years now. It just smacks of EA not finishing their game properly.

Also, live weather doesn't seem to work properly unless it really was snowing heavily in Green Bay the other day.

WE NEED SERIOUS EQUIPMENT UPDATE TOO>>>IM TIRED OF SEEING TROY POLAMALU WITH WRONG LENGTH HAIR AND EQUIPMENT NOT BEING UP TO PAR WITH HIS REAL LIFE GLOVES AND CLEATS and HAIR
