NHL 11 News Post

The September issue of Game Informer has a preview of NHL 11 with a couple of tidbits that I thought the community might like to read. I checked the website and the September issue (#209) isn't available online, so if you wanna read the full article, snag a copy of the September issue of Game Informer. Here are some quotes:

Regarding Be a Pro...

"Your draft position is determined at the Memorial Cup, and with seven rounds being integrated into the draft for the first time, if you stink it up you could find yourself being passed by several times over."

"...and refined the AI behavior to make your teammates skate better and take more shots."

Regarding Be A GM...

"...Be a GM mode improves with the addition of restricted and unrestricted free agency. Like the real NHL, you can sign younger players to slotted offer sheets or try to poach young superstars at the cost of losing draft picks. EA Canada has worked to improve the trade logic to limit the movement of star players and added five-player-per-team trades. The devs also implemented fixes to make sure good players don't unrealistically sit in free agency too long. Expect a lot more player movement at the minor league level, and like the real NHL, don't expect cap conscious teams to move a lot of first-liners unless they are pending unrestricted free agents."

Regarding the EASHL:

"...to create more intensity for the monthly seasons, this year's EASHL will feature playoffs the last four days of each month. If your team wins the Cup, your games will feature a unique presentation package including raising your championship banner to the rafters before each game."

Just to reiterate, all this is from the September issue of Game Informer.

Current and new(when you draft) player rights is all I ask for. That's ALL, then I would be happy with BeAGM.

I wonder if it will be possible to not make the draft at all by playing badly.

I've been playing BAP but still in the minors for about 2 weeks now. I absolutely love it but am a little confused as to what will change with the 2011 version. Ok you say 7 rounds with which to draft. How many is there currently now? How many of you (be honest)actually take the time to draft a team from the pipes out as they say your suppose to? I'd be curious to know. Instead of just playing the dynasty mode like forever this BAP mode has really got me hooked. Besides the extra rounds of drafts anything else I can expect? Thanks

From what I've seen in the demo, they aren't.

2 things: When I was playing the Battle for the Cup CHI/PHI matchup, there was a cutscene on the Chicago bench that showed the players and the coach. The coach still was the same generic looking one from past years.

The other thing is in the Ultimate Team tutorial video, the coaching card the guy unlocks is some fake coach. I think it's a pic of a dev team guy with some random name.

Maybe not the character of a real coach, but maybe "coaches" that will give different attribute boosts to your team? We are, after all, the GM's and seem to be doing a lot of "coaching" as well in BEaGM. Shouldn't we sign a "coach" for that.

An example I've used before might be to be able to have the coach "handle" your team more from a strategy standpoint once we "discuss" that with our new coach...
- like throw the right line out against scorers
- throw the grinders out more when you get a lead
- yank the goalie more when things get out of hand
- even have a coach for the AHL affiliate that you could groom for the NHL
- AND have that guy make sure he plays ALL your players throughout the season so that you get maximum growth out of prospects
- play with line combinations to get optimum performance based on past record
...you know...coach stuff!

Oh ya...and FIRE the guy if he sucks, so that I can save my OWN job as GM in the owners eyes

Either way, I'm salivating at the thought of 11.

So is that all that's new and exciting for BaP? 7 draft rounds and more leagues to play in? BaP is my favorite mode, but it's getting kind of stale. There needs to be training and more outside of gametime stuff.

It's about time they implemented this, I can't wait to see how it looks.

Just kidding. I wish this was true though.
That would be the icing on the cake!

In the demo's help menu it says, in BAPro, "You will make decisions on and off the ice that will affect your career" What does this mean I wonder . . . Certainly this couldn't just be referring to clicking x button to sign your new contract!

I'm guessing there will be some sort of extra-curricular interaction off ice as a BAPro a la the older Maddens and NCAA BApro modes. How sick would that be eh?

Or maybe even getting to weigh in on where you get traded, and how much you want for your pay.
Maybe even the ability to take a pay cut to stay with a team.

7 rounds doesn't mean anything if the scouting continues to be piss-poor, and the players don't improve. Simulate 10 years and you might not have a player rated in the 90s.

It says in the help menu that they re-did the rookie generation to match real-world tendencies.

I always had the opposite problem, the new top picks constantly became the top scorers and performers in the league.

All I hope for is that the sim engine is improved. If it's true to life this year, then I will probably spend copious amounts of time on this game.
