NBA 2K11 News Post

IGN has just posted their NBA 2K11 hands-on preview, as they explore everything Michael Jordan will bring to this year's game.

Three new screenshots can be found, right here.

Quote:
"Last but certainly not least is a mode called MJ Create-a-Legend that opens up after you've completed all ten challenges. The premise is simple: players insert Rookie Michael Jordan into any team they want (yes, you can run with Lebron, Bosh, Wade and Jordan on the Heat if you want) and then try to develop him into the player we know and love, but with the current crop of NBA talent. Jordan's look will change as you progress through his career and will mirror the physical differences that we saw as he moved from '80s Michael to late-'90s Michael. He begins as a high-flying youngster with an overall rating of 79 and it's up to you to bring him to greatness. The gameplay performs just like My Player in that you're player-locked to Michael Jordan and will have to complete different objectives for each game."

"Even more special is the fact that 2K Sports went to great lengths to track down each of the starters for every one of the opposing teams Jordan will face throughout the list of challenges."

ah, that might explain the bald white guy on the 92 blazers in the trailer, they dont have full 12 man rosters for the classic teams.

edit: shelb beat me to it lol

And I REALLY hope they let you play as rookie from the 2010 draft if you want. Also hope that the 2K insider's opening spiel can be skipped. He gets a little annoying after a few playthroughs.
they should replace that dude with jordan and have jordan give you feedback... that would be hot

I bet they didn't get Jud Buechler and Randy Brown from the 98 bulls. if they have those guys, i will lose it.

anyway, this "hands on" preview was pretty worthless. all it did was hype a bunch of stuff we already knew. It didn't actually discuss the gameplay or anything about the "hands on" experience other than "it felt great to control Jordan." ok, that tells me nothing - specifics please.

this preview read more like a press release from 2k, just announcing the new stuff in the game.

Randy Brown gotta be there. He was the one hugging him on the floor on Father's Day game. Wasn't he?

You have a point. But since it's so important to so many people, they take advantage of it to the last drop. But I'm 100% sure that we'll have enough Insights and videos about gameplay. I'm 100% sure that the game got better in every area.

I was always thoroughly convinced that was a circumstantial hug. If you watch this clip at the 0:52 second mark you can see Randy running toward Toni Kukoc trying to grab the game ball as the clock ticked zero. Toni hands the ball to Jordan as Randy's still giving chase and they both hit the ground clutching the basketball together.

I always thought it was funny to watch Randy appear to try to steal the game ball only to just happen to end up hugging Michael Jordan. But now that I give it another look, maybe he was trying to get the game ball so he could give it to Jordan himself. . .or maybe he was just trying to steal it. A "I love you Mike. But seriously, give me the ball" situation.

# 50 youvalss @ 08/13/10 09:36 PM
For some reason, Randy wanted the ball. Maybe he didn't make enough money back then, and thought: "Hey, this ball will be worth something in a few years. I'd better get it!"

yea i know that ur right about the part that is bold above....but all am saying is that it would have been better for me to c that animation of Jordan holding on pippen after the flu game.to me that was a spoiler...now am afrade to read another article about the Jordan challenge for spoiler reasons.so i was hoping that this ign preview is the last about the challenge.can we now get an indepth insight on defense?

As we battle to lead our teams to the NBA Finals, and battle for individual awards.
I like this

Piggybacking on that My Player suggestion, I'd like to see practices in the season in addition to drills. And these practices should matter in regards to playing time. Kind of weak how fast and easy it is to get a starting job... cracking the rotation should be hard for some guys, unless you are a first round pick.

That enhanced control insight gave some good info on defense. But we should really be happy that we're getting all this info. Past years at this time, we'd be lucky to have more than a trailer and a simple preview out.

Spoiler alert: If it happened in real life, it'll probably happen in the game. That's the idea.

Also, everyone on Lost died.

For starters, every single one of the challenges (which date from his rookie year to that "final" shot against Bryon Russell and the Jazz) features every player that you'd care about. Whether you're talking about Horace Grant on the Bulls, James Worthy and Magic on the Lakers or Karl Malone and John Stockton on the Jazz, they're all here. What's even more impressive is that they all have their signature moves and styles in the game
Quote:
there are even special animations for embarrassing Jazz players (stripping Malone and breaking Bryon's ankle). In other words, if there's a moment from Jordan's career, some image that is etched into your memory, it'll be in NBA 2K11.

Not only will every jersey and stadium be authentic, but the 2K commentary team recorded custom dialogue to match each situation..... It's cool to hear Kevin Harlan talk about Jordan's feelings about playing against Hersey Hawkins and know that it actually came from MJ himself....
Authenticity.... Authenticity to the umpteenth degree in the bold... It sounds like they really nailed all things involving the G.O.A.T.

(yes, you can absolutely do the free throw line dunk in-game)
Uhh when keeping it "real" goes wrong . I'm sure casuals will love something like this especially if and when they pull it off and didn't know it was in the game. Still something I don't want to see, but I guess I have to give MJ the pistons treatment when I'm playing against him to make sure he can't even began to elevate.

# 58 TreyIM2 @ 08/14/10 12:28 AM
These cats really want me to make this purchase. I definitely a bit skeptical about the whole MJ thing but the great lengths 2K has gone through to recreate those Jordan moments literally causes this $60 of mine wanna jump out my pocket....but I still need to see what's going on with the gameplay impovements....yet I can't front on how all this is helping me reminisce about my being a Bulls fan days. The NBA Network has even had game 5 of the second Bulls/Jazz Finals on, recently, as well as a special on Scottie Pippen. Thoooooosssseee were the dAAAAAAAAAAAyysss. Ha.

# 59 scatman @ 08/14/10 02:42 AM
somewhere outthere messenjamatt is smilinng.....these models are great. I'm sure 2K has gone to great lengths to make this game as authentic as it can get. However I'm also sure we can edit whatever we (individually speaking) want for any player (at least I hope, don't be a shmo 2K and freeze us out from player gear and move edits like you guys do when the all star teams are announced). fingers crossed

# 60 timotim19 @ 08/14/10 03:32 AM
If Chuck ain't apart of the line-up, it ain't authentic! Being able to play the triple overtime game from 1993 with the Suns would have been the best thing EVER!
