Backbreaker News Post

The "Greathouse" patch for Backbreaker is now available for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

To find out what's in the patch, click here.

Here's some quick thoughts...

The CPU is better but could probably be even better. Time will tell on this one.
CPU can run. CPU can pass.
Sometimes the safeties just don't go after the ball resulting in an easy catch and other times they do. Probably has to do with focus ratings but doesn't look right when they sit back.
Instant replay is okay. It's not in the same league as WEs or NFL2k5 but after original version, you can see what's going on and have multiple views.
Teams may have been edited.

It looks like they did a bang up job! Time will tell on how it holds up.

Alright, I just took an L (in O.T no less CPU nailed a 54 yarder), but the A.I has to be smarter in its playcalling. They were up by three with a 1:54 left, and they ran the ball on 3rd down; I had all 3 of my timeouts remaining, but they called their last T.O before I even had a chance to press select to stop the clock for me. They also seemed to love draw plays on 3rd and long. they caught me once for a 30 yard run on 3rd down, but the rest I easily stopped. I also ran into a glitch where the QB wouldn't get out of his pocket stance, and he was invincible momentarily. I couldn't bring him down and he just stayed in that stance and got a 40 yard running gain.

Patch is an improvement no doubt, but some things went unchanged (things that were supposedly addressed in the patch), and I'm seeing some things (bad) that I can't recall was in the game before.

Edit: Do the CPU miss FG's outside of 60 YARDS???

Alright, just played a couple of more games and thankfully I didn't run into that QB glitch again and I didn't have to worry about the CPU bad clock management as the games weren't even close (I got shut out last game.) I'm going to have to develop patience now against the A.I because they are no joke on pro/hard (especially on defense). I'm still extremely irritated by defenders jumping in unison during pump fakes because I don't recall that happening pre-patch (at least not to this extreme), but against better teams, it happens less often. I have to play way more to give a FINAL impression because it is a overall better game because of the patch; I'll say that without wavering, but I just hope some of the non-sense that I've seen thus far happens few and far in between.

Just saw the most crazy fumble ever. I punted the ball and the PR caught it and was making his way for the sideline. So, I decided to help him get out of bounds by giving him something to remember me by. The angle I came in was going straight for the ball. It jarred the ball loose violently and it went behind his back colliding with his other elbow propelling the ball forward back by out 8-10 yards or so. One of my special teams guys simply fell on the ball for the fumble recovery. It was a "holy roller" type of moment. I would have recorded it, but my camera isn't working right.

just picked the game up this week so I'm still struggling with the passing game but after playing a couple days pre-patch post-patch... Patch is way better. STILL. I need to learn how to play and the training camp is ok but damn I need a practice mode.

sucks having to learn how to scan the field, pass (with touch) catch and run all while trying to win. (or at least waiting to get the ball back)

The CPU suffers from the same problem. It's the game not the user.

The run blocking does need some a good amount of tweaking for the CPU. They typically get nothing on every run play. Maybe a bit of minor tweaking for Human run blocking, but I'm getting used to it. Just ran for 140 yards (5.6ypc) on the NE Militia with my star RB. I'm having more trouble getting my WRs open enough so they won't drop the ball. Went 11/16 in the same game, so making progress. (Pro-Medium 5min Quarters)

CPU still runs a bit too many draw plays. I'd like to see CPU QBs take a bit more shots down the field. Dump it off to the flats too often.

As the receiver catches the ball hold down the right trigger (aggressive mode) and down on the right stick to protect the ball. This cuts down on the drops significantly.

Loaned my BackBreaker disc to my girlfriend's son a month ago. He lives in LaPlace, about 40 miles away. I'll probably pick it up today. He just bought NCAA and doesn't have Xbox Live.

Based on the reports I've been getting, my biggest disappointment is the running game. Why would the Devs improve the O-Line blocking and then make it near impossible to run? Also the CPU's run game has not been improved enough.

Those of you that have kept this thread on topic....Thanks! Those of you that feel the need to compare or jab at EA's product...Don't. You will be banned. We aren't going to have flame wars in here. Thanks.

I am enjoying the patch. Apart from the usual complaints I have some that I haven't seen mentioned:

I keep getting dodgy PI flags thrown against me for slight nudges away from the intended receiver.

As well as that, last night I threw two interceptions that clearly hit the turf before the defender gathered the ball.

Also sometimes using the 'show blitz' button causes the MLB to career offside and into the centre/guard.

Hopefully we will get another patch soon that will mop up these errors.

I wondering if it has to do with making the game harder. But I don't really know it's a puzzler.

Like the patch.

But, the most glaring things I see that still need to be fixed.

1)RB's need to be more effective for both the CPU AND the user. I'd prefer that the Backbreaker development team make it harder to bring down running backs and RBs average more yards per carry.

2) Pass blocking is perfect. RUN blocking sucks most of the time. There are too many tackles on run plays behind the line of scrimmage.

I like the game otherwise. It's finally worth $40. (not worth a dime more though)

I *think* if you are doing that, then you might just need to re-assign your audibles, as it looks like the new plays that were added have resulted in some mismatch with old savegames - meaning your defensive audibles could have actually been offensive plays!
thanks man, you nailed it. That's exactly what happened. My D audibles were offensive plays...I'll re-assign,...I'm just stying way away from my teams after hearing people's problems after touching them. Like I haven't seen a drop yet really.

edit...so after play a whole season game on hard the passing game is great imo.

BUT they ruined the run game completely. I'm 13 yards on 29 carries! I'm good at running the ball too. The other thing that bothers me is the reanimation of kicks, they now look fast-forward and stupid. Before they looked natural. I may get rid of the patch, because I can't play the game with zero running game. Before I do that I'll try medium difficulty, but we'll see. They jacked up the tackles too which is fine with me, but if I can't run, forget it. I also noticed it's taking longer now to dive as well, which negates cool goal line plays. I can't understand how this patch would kill the run so much especially since the pass blocking is 5X better.

I thought running was pretty sound on the Human side, but I wouldn't mind it being harder. But if I have a good O-line versus an average front 7, I'd like to see the CPU struggle or innovate a bit to stop me. My biggest beef would be that the CPU can't stuff it down your throat on occasion.

Believe me, I'm all for a tougher CPU.

What kind of rushing stats is everyone getting for Human and CPU? Please include whether it's MEDIUM or HARD.

How does one delete the patch on an Xbox? I like some things in the patch, but some things are poorly implemented. I want to go back before the patch to compare.
Thanks

I hear you most times a run for the CPU is a waste of a down. They are lucky to get 3 yards many many times.

I get between 30-50 a game. If the CPU plays a 4-4, I'm lucky to get that.

# 97 boooey @ 08/07/10 03:00 PM
when playing an exhibition game on medium, i found it to be really fun.. i could pass and run and the CPU could pas and run a little bit as well.. but as soon as I started a season on medium, it was insanely difficult to pass, and i was getting picked off left and right.

for season mode, i had to turn the difficulty back down to easy

Just got this off of the net. Try at own risk. LOL

First open the "System" blade in the Xbox 360 dashboard, then go to memory, and press Y on the hard drive to open the "Device Options" menu. Then press the following sequence of buttons: X, X, Left Bumper (LB), Right Bumper (RB), X, X. You will be asked if you want to perform maintenance on your hard drive and delete all patches. Choose yes. To later reinstall the patch, just get on Xbox live again. However, if you had downloaded additional content that relied on the patch it will be reset.

I have played on hard for a few games in my season mode, and I am 0-3. Which is fine, but I got absolutely hammered one game. I think I will test with some exhibition games on hard with two random teams for three games. Followed by three more games on medium. Worse thing to do is base your decision off one game, especially with all the random things that can happen.

Just want a game that is a challenge, but not impossible. It could be that the team I am using in season mode has a bad offense.

EDIT: It seems like on Hard the CPU is just supercharged. On Medium it seems the ratings are evened out like they should be. I am just going to start my season over on Medium, and if I win the championship on that level, I will bump it up to hard.

actually now in the options of the Hard drive it just asks you if you want to "clear the cache"

no more need to do the bumper thing it does the same thing.
