News Post

Hey everyone, my name is Andrew Kennedy, but most of you probably know me better by the user name crusaderhoops10. Welcome to the first installment of my new column -- The Franchise Man -- which will be all about delving deep into the franchise modes of all games while hopefully shedding some light on what it takes to get the most out of your franchising experiences.

I started out playing video games at a very young age, but it was not until the introduction of the Franchise mode in Madden that I truly fell in love. Since I do not get very much satisfaction out of beating some random "cheeser" online, these long-lasting single-player modes give me a reason to play sports video games. A franchise mode lets you create your own world in a sense, and it also lets you see what the future of sports could be if you were somehow given the ability to impact it.

In 2005, I began to take my franchise experiences to the next level, sharing them with the online community via MaddenMania and now here at OS. My main inspiration was seeing a NCAA Football 2005 Michigan Wolverines dynasty on MaddenMania that was run by a user named BDawg35. After seeing his dynasty, I wanted nothing more than to create something just like it and receive the community's feedback (especially since my friends shockingly began to get tired of listening to me talk about my franchises once we entered high school).

I would rather play a random cheeser then play against the computer. Just my opinion. I like to play against real people and not some computer. Nice article though. I would never play a old game like that but I wouldnt tell anybody not to.

I've never played a game online, but play against friends sometimes offline. I like the CPU games because I can turn up their skill level to provide a serious challenge. Always in a legacy though, exhibition games don't help with anything unless trying to fine tune sliders.

I don't like the idea of having to use the default sliders and rosters to play online, plus I don't want to play some little kid who gets ticked and ruins the game.

Hands down my favorite next-gen game. Dynasty mode is so deep and addictive, and 2K Share keeps everything updated.

This is still the only sports game i haven't taken back to gamestop since next gen...possibly one of the best sports games ever on next gen.

Yeah it's fun but it's more like a role playing game than a sports game. The gameplay is pretty 'ehhh', but the amount of stuff you can do makes it really fun.

The sad part is that there isn't going to be ANY college hoops games now. That's why I think 2k should step back in and make it. I'm still not sold on 2k's 'new' gameplay, but even if they just took the 2k engine and put college teams, rosters, and a similar franchise mode... it would be worth the price they charged for it. They could even make it cheaper like 40.

Edit: lol, and their names are hilarious, no doubt.

I actually bought NCAA Hoops 10 this year, played for about two weeks, took it in and traded it in for a copy of 2k8. I just couldn't believe how 2 its been years since 2k actually made a basketball game and they still have the best game to offer.

I did the exact same thing. Except I still had my 2k8. I bought NCAA Hoops 10 and thought it was so lame. So I went back to the old faithful. I must say that its probably my favorite sports game of all time.

I, like everyone else, love this game! Its just absolutely crazy to me how 2K8 still blows EA Sports out of the water two years later in 2010! Why is EA so incompetent in the basketball genre?

I can't believe there wont be any college basketball game in the forseeable future. Sure, it may never be as popular as college football, but you can't tell me there isnt enough of an audience to profit off a good college hoops series. Come back, 2K college hoops! I need you back in my life!

The only problem I have with the game is how bad the play by play is . . . that's the only issue with the whole game. Literally, it's the best sports game I've ever played, but I swear, the play by play is bad enough that I literally mute them and just listen to the crowd noise. But the actual gameplay is FAR superior to any basketball game that EA has even dreamed of. If they did CH2k11 with My Player Mode, that would be the greatest game mode of all time.

Haha, yea I love when the score is like 7-5, yet I've somehow scored 15 straight

the play by play is kinda bad... BUT every once in awhile i'll hear a nugget that i've never heard before and works excellently within the game...

Another thing that extends the longevity of this game is the incredible stat tracking history.

I love the record books section, where you can see each school's individual and team game, season and career records that accumulate during the course of your franchise.

I'd recommend that purchase to anyone who doesn't have this title. Absolute steal. It could be a long, long time before we see a better college basketball game. I think EA discontinued its title, not that it would even come close to College Hoops. And when the next gen systems roll around, it could take a few years before they get it right. This title, especially with updated rosters and its customizable schedules, will stand the test of time.

If 2k could, how awesome would it be if there was a be a pro mode for this, that you could transfer to be a pro in nba 2k.
Thhat would be great, plus a new college game from 2k anyway.
I love it how the best series of game seem to leave, mvp baseball, and this.
