Gran Turismo 5 News Post

Eurogamer has posted their hands-on impressions of Gran Turismo 5.

Quote:
"There are two types of car in Gran Turismo, apparently: premium cars and standard cars. The latter, it's worth noting, are only standard by Yamauchi's exacting principles: there's over 800 of them, they cover the majority of the vehicles included in all the previous Gran Turismo games, including the PSP version, and they've been optimised and upscaled for the PS3.

If that bothers you, a show reel of standard cars - Dodge muscle numbers, streamlined F1 concepts, and something that looks to my untrained eye like a Mini Clubman with way too many rallying headlights - hardly makes them seem shabby. They're glossy, finely detailed, and a fair match for anything you might have seen in Project Gotham or Forza.

The 200 premium cars that take the final count past the 1000 mark are something else, however. The premiums have been lavished with a slightly worrying amount of detail - every single screw is visible in the hubs, the interiors have been recreated down to the stitching (standard cars won't have interiors, which is a bit sad, but there are, like, 800 of them), and their undersides have been comprehensively modelled to take into account a new physics system which, along with allowing for dents and scratches, can sends your ride flipping through the air during collisions."

Gran Turismo 5 Collector's Edition Detailed (Gamervision)

Quote:
"Yesterday Sony made a lot of gamers happy by finally announcing a release date for the long awaited Gran Turismo 5, which will be in stores on November 2nd of this year. Since fans of the series have been waiting over two years to get their hands on something other than the Prologue, it's only natural that the level of anticipation is through the roof. Looking to cash in on those high hopes, developer Polyphony Digital has announced the GT5 Collector's Edition, which includes a handful of "must-have items" inspired by the game.

Those items are:
  • Exclusive 1:43 scale diecast 2009 Nissan GT-R Spec V
  • In-depth 300-page car guide
  • Gran Turismo branded key chain
  • Five DLC cars
  • A numbered certificate of authenticity
  • "Premium" packaging

I can't wait for this game. I first played this game back on PS1 in 98.

So only 9 Nascars? I was hoping they had most of the real drivers if not all.

Am I understanding this right? The 800 "Standard" cars will not have an in car view?

I took it as the 800 standard cars will have standard interiors, not down to the stitching of their real life counterparts like the premium cars.

He is right. A Mustang will have a Mustang interior, but not down to every last perfection.

A ZR1 Corvette will have it down to every last stitch in the interior, while an older, regular Corvette will probably have a Corvette interior equivalent to other racing games that are not as scrupulous from what I gather in the interview.

Thanks for clearing that up guys. Good news.

so they had all these years, and only managed to get 200 fully featured ps3 "premium" cars?

They'll have upscaled ps2 models running alongside true ps3 models. Interesting.

Well from reading Steve's most recent post , it seems the 800 standard cars will not have an interior view. This is very bad news for me. I love using the in car view when racing. I guess I'll only be driving the Premium cars.

As confirmed in a footnote on the Japanese site, the 800 “standard cars” in the game will not have interior view or high/low beam headlights (new video standard cars here, thanks Paskowitz).

I am a bit disappointed with the lack of interior views, but I definitely understand.

This game should blow Forza out of the water, but only time will tell. Definitely a collectors edition 1st day purchase for me.

Wish we could get more information about Nascar drivers that are in the game and can you do a full Nascar season. Really miss Nascar games.

Definitely buying the CE. That 300 page car guide sold me.

*Actually clicks link*

100 bucks, though?!? I guess I'll have to wait to see how much I can afford when it comes out. That's a ****load of money for one game.

The Collectors Addition looks awesome, but dont know about paying $100.00 for it. Probably going to have to wait and see like you are.

Looks to me that the difference between the standard cars and premium cars are that standard cars have the tinted windows since the interiors aren't detailed. I wouldn't be surprised if all cars have the cockpit view.

I am wondering at how many gigs the install will eat up on my HDD. My guess is in the 8-10 range.

Gran Turismo 5 feature an astounding 800+ cars, a vast collection covering a wide range of eras and categories.
*Standard cars do not support vehicle interior camera views.

I assume that means no interior view, right?

Most likely.

Based on that link, the only thing I can truly get from it is that you can't see the car's interior from the outside for standard cars. This still doesn't prove that there is no cockpit view for these cars.

We'll see. I wish they would just go ahead and clarify it instead of beating around the bush.

Exactly. They're being very vague with their wording, which scares me a tad.
