NHL 11 News Post

IGN has posted their NHL 11 impressions.

Quote:
"In order to combat all of this crazy checking action, the developers from EA's Vancouver studio have given players a new quick deke ability. The mechanics are extraordinarily easy. All you have to do is hold the left shoulder button and flick the right analog stick to the right or left and your guy will pull off a deke. Of course, as soon as I successfully pulled off my first deke, I tried to take a wrist shot and wound up snapping my stick. It was a little disgruntling, but it was still pretty damn cool.

The final addition to NHL 11 to make its way into EA Sports' E3 demo was user-controlled celebrations. By using both the face buttons and triggers, players can access a large library of goal celebrations. The one I saw was essentially a guy sliding face-first down on the ice, hands outstretched. I was told there were plenty more to be had, but that's all I saw in my short demo at E3."

Redshirt said over in my thread about Goal Celebrations and Broken Sticks that the CPU uses generic celebrations.

You might want to check it out...I actually pose a potential problem in the game, something you tend to believe I never do.

And did I just see that Halak was traded to the Blues???

Gotta go verify that one. Late.

Not to complain but...I kinda wish we would have been given an option with this. Cpu celebrations: on/off. Oh well...bigger fish to fry than is.

What's *need* does it fulfill to "rub it in" your opponents face? People have gotten so comfortable with anonymity and rules/law that protect them - they've forgotten any sort of class.

It truly disgusts me to actually see that type of post.

Agreed, Bama... Ugh, it is people with this mentality (word used loosely) that make me want to build an EASHL Web Of Trust or something like that... Just a place to find FAIR, JERK-FREE teams.

People just dont know how to act anymore. Winning is about winning.. not making the other guy lose... I mean, what does that say about your character as a person and/or human being when hurting someone else makes you feel better about a situation?

I'm gonna smack my kid in the mouth if he ever says anything about rubbing it in the other guys face... then he'll sit a game!

I agree the quote is a bit old, but sometimes it still carries weight.. THis might be one of them.. It has been confirmed in a video that Custom Celebrations is an option in the pause menu (I couldnt make it out, but someone claimed it and no one corrected him)... so I am guessing there is a decent amount of options for how it is used...

In this case if "not using it" just means that I can literally switch it off (which is seeming more and more the case)... Then the answer holds plenty of water, and I flip 180 degrees and want them in the game.. Like I said, if you can control it, it's better to have it in then not... If "not using it" means not activating it, then I am still leaning back towards not having them.

Yeah.. it totally is... Who wants to play a game where the CPU couldnt score anyway... If you are blowing the CPU out like that to the point that you think there is any semblance of merit behind saying that... THEN YOU ARE PLAYING THE GAME WRONG!

How do you prevent them from doing it? You don't let them score... other than that, don't play random goofs. Or you could ignore it and try not to get so worked up about it. The righteous indignation is also getting old.

No, your pulpit pounding, incessant complaining, and badgering of those who are excited about the feature is getting quite old.

Hmmm.. on many levels I agree with both outlooks...

The one thing I would bring up is that... by the very nature of it, a public forum is essentially begging for people to air out their opinion.

That of course goes for Qb and his opinion that some stuff is getting old.

It's just my opinion that I disagree.. this topic is generating good talk about the game.. I wouldnt change a thing.

I loathe "it's my opinion... I can say whatever I want" discussions, so all I'll say is this. It only becomes an issue when one side of a discussion feels the need to paint the other in a negative light or pushes their views as the only way to look at an issue.

On a related note... why is it that many think the celebrations will be so over-the-top?

It's probably from that IGN article, where the author mentions doing a "Superman slide" after scoring, and things kinda stemmed from there.

Oh I dont like them either, and I didnt like making it here... But much like I dont like that I cant walk into a bank and take as much money as I want... It doesnt mean that isnt still the case.

In fact that wasnt REALLY what I was getting at... What I meant was that if we didnt all have our own opinions, this board would be either 1) Empty or A News site and not a forum.

My point was more about how it's the opinions that drive this (and any other forum) site, and that shouldnt be forgotten... not at all saying it was.. just making a point.

# 51 Qb @ 06/18/10 05:04 PM
Didn't he state that was the only celebration he did? So none of us know any of the other celebrations?

Radie... you lost me with that one.

Yeah that is where this started... but I wonder if things like the Spider and Flame and Graffiti equipment doesnt do it's share to foster that fear.

Maybe only a few will be "over-the-top" (the Superman slide being one of them), and the rest will be your routine fistpumps and so forth.

# 54 plaidchuck @ 06/19/10 12:21 AM
Yeah, it'll no doubt be annoying online but at the end of the day I hope this was just a little side project rather than something than being something in which they invested lots of time/resources.

Guess on OS message boards we state our opinion and read the responses but don't respond to the respondees? Is that the rule?

Also, there was no "righteous indignation" as I never felt wronged until this post. I was simply having a strong discussion wherein I described my opinion.
Yes, your opinion. Everyone else does not have to share it or be beaten over the head with it. That's all I'm trying to say.

# 56 UwantRadie @ 06/21/10 07:33 PM
Opinions drive message boards...

It's that simple... When someone on a message boards say they have a problem with opinions that means they have a problem with your opinion*.

If you really had an issue with opinions, you would just go to a news or a review site.. not a forum.

You obviously shouldnt express your opinion all the time.. there is a time and place for that (funeral.. not so much). One of those places is a internet forum.

Qb is right about not wanting to let it get out of hand and maybe he went with a pre-emptive strike, but he is still right... like I said before about a time and place for opinions, its those very same factors that dictate how you should present that opinion.

*Then again this could be a chicken or the egg thing.. maybe spending enough time on a forum (or even modding it) makes you dislike opinions... knowing some of the opinions out there.. it wouldnt shock me much.
