NBA 2K11 News Post

Gameinformer has posted their first impressions of NBA 2K11.

Quote:
"With new player models and completely retooled player animation systems, the on-court movement already look much smoother than they did in NBA 2K10. Animations blend together better, and players are no longer locked into their animations and rendered helpless until the move runs its course. If you're spinning toward the basket and decide to change your course, you can now break out of the animation and reverse your move or get off that delicately timed shot just outside the reach of your defender.

To complement NBA 2K's new look on the court, 2K Sports poached a guy who used to work in the TNT presentation booth to sharpen up its broadcast-style look. The Lakers vs. Celtics match-up we watched during the demo started with KG and co. coming off the bus while Kevin Harlan welcomed everyone to the Thanksgiving throwdown. The new player introductions used player images, and all of the informational overlays ditch the static look for more dynamic flow effects."

I think when people were praising 2k for building on existing features they were referring to Association and MyPlayer depth, which is good. But when it comes to on court action- I think most are in agreement that it does indeed need a new "engine" or at least revisited movement/controls. I think with Wang back that's what we'll see. I'm excited for 2k11 .

More exciting stuff. Player models, no more IsoM, breaking out of animations (aka better control, hopefully)....I'm intrigued.

Could 2010 FINALLY be the year we get great sports games across the board? The Show, NCAA Football is going to be diesel and 2K looks like it's taking care of some of the bigger complaints from the last two years.

Always is a long time. Things change. I remember how much better 2k3 was than Live 2003 and Live 2004 was better than 2k4. I thought Madden 2002 was better than NFL 2k2 then come 04 I would have said NFL 2k4 was the better game.

That's not even close to being true. As soon as EA announced that Live had the ESPN announcing team you had people saying that VC needed to change their presentation, when it was announced that Live has "real-time physics" there were people starting threads about that needing to be in 2k11, even though no one has any idea what that actually means for the game, last year when there was information on Live before there was anything about 2k10, just about everybody on here kept saying "I'm a 2k guy but I'm switching to Live since they're giving us info". The Live game gets credit for "making strides", while the 2k game is expected to have everything that anyone asks for as soon as they ask for it.

I believe they've made plenty of changes over the last 3 years, but like any yearly title, new issues have arisen. Hopefully with the changes in control that aspect of the game will be much better. I'm also hoping that VC has addressed their current playcalling system, since that's the second biggest issue I have with the game. I like that they're also addressing the player models, but I hope that they keep the "tree trunk" calves on Yao.

Shot-stick probably won't be ever removed, IMO. It's one the biggest innovations they've made over the last 5 years. It has been so well received that the competition is adding their owner variation on it.

The next time you bring up Live/Elite here again in this thread, you're getting carded.

Everyone has been warned to drop the comparisons already by 23.
