I thought I read somewhere that Collingsworth recorded new pregame stuff.
This is the best video yet. I mean that. It's positive for the game because it is as Johnson said an art. That's why some guys like Gary Thorne translate well and then a guy like Hammond doesn't. Johnson obviously has the ability to make it real with his dynamics and sincerity.
Did you see him standing there with his arms crossed and all so serious? He was almost intimidating. Efforts like this, where the EA team goes after something that will be a game changer, these things are positive and give me reason to go out and make the purchase. Not just purchase the game but also appreciate their efforts too.

I'll be 100% honest and say I think Johnson is a tad over-the-top in his delivery, but it's far better than what came before. It'll be interesting to see how he and Collinsworth mesh. Collinsworth, to me, is probably the most natural sounding video game commentator I've ever heard, and that might sound strange next to Johnson's exuberance.
It was great to meet the guy, though. It's very clear he cares, and knowing he was keeping up that energy level after something like 6 hours of recording was very impressive. It was awesome that they had him in studio during CD.

Johnson's exuberance too may get old much like in NBA 2K where the two commentators scream out, "Ohhhhhhhh!!" on a dunk. It's very exciting at first but can get dull after a while. I suppose that's the nature of it.

Back on topic. Gus seems to be a much better commentator (in the game) than Hammonds that's for sure. He seems excited to be a part of the game.
*I noticed he said Madden was the biggest game in the world, since when? Maybe one of but not the biggest I can agree with.

Thanks Steve!
My only problem, with this video is that he's recording lines when Chris isn't there.
I think these guys should be in a booth together at the same time. So when they are talking back and forth. The emotion during lines would see more accurate and authentic. Because they are talking to one another.
Ron needs to step it up and get that done before release....Get them recording simultaneously, instead of different times.

I don't envy anyone having to sit there like that and belt out line after line after line after...
Whatever the case, I hope there is much more variety in what is said yet I am salivating at the speech tech being created by that one company. I forget the name of the company but THAT tech is going to revolutionize sports video game commentary.

Gus is one of my favorites, he may be the main reason I decide to purchase Madden NFL 11, used.
I like the fact that says it's 'Art'. I wish Tiburon would keep that in mind when they develop Madden. Especially when they start spattering it with Overlay Ads, accelerators, consumables, etc.
One other thing. I hate hearing Gus Johnson recording those unique lines, and hearing EA saying they added 9000 of them. Lines should not be unique. Ever. It should all be dynamic. Each and every one of them. In the last line there, what's the relationship between Tony Romo and Matt Hassleback? A lost game, a playoff meeting? Code that commentary such that it can be used for any QB combo that meets the appropriate criteria. It's just flat out the wrong approach.

They need to sit with one another and talk lines back and forth and just sound like they are two commentators in the booth, that are enjoying a live game.
Not to mention is there any word on the sideline reporters or the half time and season highlight people yet?

I know they're gonna wanna showcase their new play-by-play this year, but I hope they added a ton for Collinsworth. It would go a long way to clearing up the repetitiveness of it if both guys got involved. Too many games make you wonder if the color guy took off for a lunch break through most of the game (The Show, for example, has a 3 man booth but you rarely hear anything from Dave Campbell... what's the point of having him?)... and when Collinsworth does speak, it's something you've already heard 50 thousand times.
Collinsworth and Johnson could end up being the best commentary team in the history of sports gaming, but they've gotta have variety, they've gotta talk to each other, and they've gotta share the stage relatively equally to do so.

I'm just curious to see how the crowd reacts in the appropriate situations. I believe they said earlier that when a player breaks away the crowd erupts not when he crosses into the endzone, they said the crowd stands and cheers when the ball is in the air...i hope these are implemented well, it would certainly go a long way with the new audio
