Madden NFL 11 News Post

Madden NFL 11 introduces online scouting. Check it out, over at ESPN.

Quote:
"I like to throw the curl route on first down in "Madden." Prefer to throw it to the receiver on the right side of the screen. I have the timing down so perfect in my head that I can usually do it without even looking. Eight yards to open the drive.

As John Madden used to say, "Boom!"

And it's funny, I know my tendencies, a couple of my best friends know what I've been up to for years, but when I go online and play random people, that curl route is still always open.

But not for long.

With "Madden NFL 11," EA Sports is tracking your every play in order to deliver scouting reports to your online opponents. So now, whether I'm playing against a "Madden" vet in Sacramento or a newbie in Denver, all they need to do is order up my report and they'll know my tendencies as well as the people I've been playing "Madden" against since high school.

"Online scouting tracks all of your play-calling and what you like to do in different situations," explains producer Donny Moore. "We're tracking every online game that you play: online ranked, unranked, and 'Madden Ultimate Team' head-to-head."

No thanks.
you don't have to pay for anything. You earn coins in the game by playing online without quitting or disconnecting.

The thing is, you know as much as I do that you will have to play more games to earn coins, while your opponent will just buy the report for 2-3 bucks and then have the info while you won't.

This whole paying more and more thing is just frustrating as hell.

I guess the big question would be how many coins do you earn per online game?

Let me first say that I love this idea been wanting something like this in the game for years. I am a big fan of what Ian and company has done and continues to do. And I can not wait till madden comes out. With that said do we really need to pay for this. I know they said we would get coins for just playing the game and only would have to pay real money if we wanted to, but still I think these scouting reports should be free and open from the start. Giving us the option to earn coins so we don't have to ues real money does make it ok to charge for something that should be free. But it's better then nothing I guess.

My guess is 5-10 coins. Five on a loss, ten on a win. Reports are 25 coins. This is just a hunch.

Reports will be probably 1 or 2 bucks.

The most annoying thing, and that I simply can't understand, is why do you have to pay or give coins to see your own scouting report? That's ridiculous.

I love the idea of a scouting report, just hate that again, it's something the end user has to pay out of pocket for to get the full enjoyment out of it.

Last year for MUT you could earn like 200-300 a game...if it stays that way no one would even need to think about paying for them.

Now if those same coins fund MUT (if they bring it back) or another feature, that's a different story...

This is a great feature... but it's only half-implemented in my opinion.. Why shouldn't they have this track ALL the games you play, and not just the online games? I would like to see my tendencies accumulate through my offline franchise as well as offline head to head games.

And why do we have to "accumulate" these coins before checking out the scouting report on our opponent??? It would seem to me to make more sense that you should automatically get these scouting reports on your opponent. I don't want to be playing against some guy online and have him scouting my tendencies, all the while I used up all my 'coins' on the last game I played so I can't contribute to this "chess" match... Waccckkkk...

But GREAT to see they are at least somewhat trying to implement a 'VIP' type system.

yeah...I don't get the having to pay to see your own scouting report. Thats silly.

But depending on how many coins are earned per game, one may not be forced to pay anything out of pocket to get the full experience.

I thought it said in the article that coins obtained thru MUT could be used to buy player card packs or coin packs for scouting.

And I'm just randomly guessing here that since they are giving you 50 coins out of the gate just for purchasing the game new, then that will be the amount that you earn from playing a single game. That would entail that you can, so long as you don't quit/disconnect, buy a full scouting report for the next game after having played one.

Good addition, IMO. It should add a lot more strategy to online games.
I agree. It will make online games a lot more interesting.

once you purchase one scouting report for a person or yourself, can you access it at any time and does it continually update or do u have to pay for updates as well?

I was wondering this too. If you scout the pass vs. run tendency, is that only for your next game or for every game after?

with so much to legitimately be frustrated with EA about it really makes no sense to be complaining about them giving lazy people the option to buy something they could just as easily get for free. if you get to start off with a balance of coins and you factor in that for the first week it will be worthless to buy a scouting report since people won't have compiled any useful information everybody that actually wants to buy a scouting report will have plenty of coins to do so without ever paying an extra penny. this truly is jaded madden gamers complaining simply because they want to complain.

Not a bad feature at all. It looks to add even more strategy, replay value, and most importantly, realism, to the game. I hope there's much more that they added for online games.

Can't wait 'till E3!

# 37 CreatineKasey @ 06/01/10 10:24 PM
I'm wondering what other kinds of things they will sell with these coins.

# 38 mrprice33 @ 06/01/10 10:30 PM
I really hope the coins are easy enough to earn in-game. If this is something where we're going to end up having to buy this functionality, that's a bad thing. Honestly, this functionality should be in-game as a feature, especially if they're trying to treat online as a "value-add" proposition.

I'm not sure theres anything that they could've announced, that I could care less about.

I would have much rather seen these stats/tendencies in a more robust player profile tracker. Kinda like V.I.P. in the 2K games.

Focus on fixing the gameplay more, smooth out the online experience for those who do play online and be done with it. The only people that I do play online is my friends, and after about 2 games, I can get a good feel for them. Oh, but they are smart and change their gameplay up game to game depending on what team they use. Which defeats the purpose of scouting then. Just look at The Show. I have never taken that game online because I don't need to. With the right slider set, the game is almost flawless, and a lot of fun against the computer.

It's starting to annoy me that they work on things like this instead of focusing on the core gameplay and making it look as smooth as possible. This is a very small niche market of people that this will reach, yet it's obviously one of their new key selling points
Very small niche market eh? Online Gaming is huge...

I really hope you do not have to spend coin to see what plays people pick when deciding an opponent you want to play.
