Backbreaker News Post

Pastapadre has posted his early impressions of Backbreaker.

Quote:
"All games have been played on Pro-Hard (the highest difficulty). Needless to say I’m not sure anyone will lose to the CPU even on the toughest setting. I don’t consider myself good at this game yet, I’d maybe say I’m decent, but if I played the CPU 100 times I’m confident I would beat them 100 times. The ineptness on offense even from the best offensive squads is startling.

Being able to stretch out the quarters did seem to help as the CPU does not make mistakes at quite the same rate. The way the CPU threw INTs in the demo would have meant 10+ INTs in a game with five minute quarters. So far I’m seeing an average of about five INTs by the CPU per game with five minute quarters. The INTs were my biggest concern going in but along with that has been the inability of the CPU to move the ball on offense and put points on the board.

The first full game I played was with a mediocre Seattle defense up against one of the best teams in the game New England. You can look at the stats below. Given it was my first time through I wouldn’t expect to be able to beat a good team on the hardest difficulty but I did so with ease. New England has one of the better offenses and threw seven picks. They got one big pass play when an AI controlled DB played a throw poorly and they took it the distance."

Man I must really suck at this game then. I played against New England (rated 70 something), I was Oklahoma (30ish rating) and they beat me down 33-0. I had the form set to very good playing on arcade mode. I might of had 120yds total offense and they only threw one pick to my 3 (all my fault of course). IMHO it's a solid game. GAME ON people.

I'm going with the 360 version, I like the bigger controller and online will be better with Live.

Just found out the "old lady" wants to sip wine, eat grapes and watch "It's Complicated" with me on DVD tonight. Lord help me!

Also, I thought Pasta's early impressions were fair. If anything he could've talked up the technology more than he did but this is a wonky playing CPU. Seems to me the offensive output is unpredictable, I saw good offense come out of the CPU in the demo at times, but in others it was beyond horrible. In all cases there were too many sacks and INT's though.
Ha... That's usually the way it works.

Strange game sometimes when you have a nice run or complete a pass it is very satisfying, same thing with a nice tackle. Still getting used to the passing in the last game I played I was sacked 11 times I played Cleveland and I am the Cougars. First game I played was a turnover fest like Pasta said, but the last one was pretty normal and I managed to lose, although I probably shouldn't have if I was smart about my playcalling and a little quicker on the controls, this was on the hard level. I recommend that if you play this game use custom settings and turn on the hi-lite player options, so you can see who as the ball when you are defending, also hold the left stick so you can focus on the play. On defense it is actually pretty fun to play linebacker, I haven't tried to be DB yet, that was how I got burned and lost by trying to take control of the guy and thought I had a pick when I didn't .

Their is a lot of potential here, I have enjoyed what I have played I think in part because it is a new take on a football game and I needed something new. I am concerned most about the CPU Offense more games will tell but it does seem to inconsistent and maybe some of that is the ratings of players, some pretty bad players running around on some teams. I think that my ineffectiveness on offense can be helped by practice.

Visually appealing, actually like no announcers, not sure what is the point of the depth charts are since there are not injuries of fatigue, but hey at least it is in place for next year.

So anyway it does alot of things better than any other football game to date. Im having fun with it and hope they can get a few more chances to make a better football game. For this to be their first attempt I think they have done a hell of a job.
AGREED, couldn't have said it better myself.

There is a franchise mode. Or do you mean that it is watered down?

For anybody on the fence when you play this game you will have a hard time putting it down that simple. If you are on a budget and worried about the risk simply trade a few games in at Gamestop you will be glad you did. Will you see issues yes but above all will have blast thats whats important.

Thought we were told to stop discussing his character like 10 pages ago, if you hate him or the thread, best thing you can do is (spare us, and) not reply so it goes away.

This is nothing more than one person's opinion about the game. If you don't agree with it, so be it, enjoy the game and move on. Same for those of you that DO agree. If this confirms your decision of not purchasing, then do the same, and move on.

I managed to lose again this time to New Orleans with Green Bay. Even on Medium New Orleans can move the ball. I made some mistakes on D and threw some picks but it was a lot of fun, Flaws all around, poor clock management, not kicking a field goal, while in field goal formation they just let the clock run out, then were too aggressive at the end of the game and almost let me win.

If you keep in mind it is way different than what you have played before and have some patience I think you will find yourself having a good time.

Interested to see what they will come up with next time, hopefully they improve on what is good and not water it down to appease the standard football audience. I would like a better view of of the O-line when I am passing or just a little more mobility and time, perhaps with practice I will get better. On D, it can be a lot of fun when you can follow the action but if you start hitting A to follow the ball the camera will disorient you and you may let up a big play.

Well then this post should be locked because DickDalewood said it's just one opinion...in that case if you make a post in the forum about one's opinion then it's only logical to have people discuss that opinion and what are the reasons for that opinion. You can't have it both ways.

If you don't understand the difference between discussing the topic and discussing a person, then I'm sorry.

Case in point, the post after yours.

If you don't like the thread, I don't see why you felt the need to bump it from page 5 or so.
