Anthony DiFazio, Assistant Designer on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, has posted a new blog, as he lifts the cover off shot focus.

"My name is Anthony DiFazio and I am an Assistant Designer on the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR franchise. I have been involved with the development of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR for a couple of years now and I’m extremely excited with the direction things are going. As we get closer to the launch of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11, I will be writing blogs about features and shortly after their release I will hit the forums to better answer the community’s questions. I have been on there recently and I know the community is itching for some news. Today we are lifting the cover off SHOT FOCUS.
This is the first blog in which I am going to dive a little deeper into some of the new gameplay changes and overall enhancements we have made to Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11. It was an exciting development cycle this year and after listening to our community, we have been making some pretty significant changes.
The feature I am going to talk about today is the all new SHOT FOCUS system and how this is going to change the way you approach the course and your shot to shot selections."
Ok Divot, we got a little more info on shot focus. Was this the HUGE thing you were talking about, or is there something else we may find out next week? What is your opinion on Shot Focus?

No it was not. Remember, I said there might be something big, might not be. This is not it. Shot Focus did not work for me during TW Community Day as we played on several different builds of the game within 2 days and I never got the feel of it, but from the description of the feature, it sounds interesting and could add to the strategy necessary to play well.
Ok Divot, I remember you saying a big thing may or may not happen, that's fine. New blog will be coming out next week. I will wait and see what's next.
Hmmmm... not sure how I feel about Shot Focus at this point. I see it as sort of an artificial gimmick, very close to a "power up". I play strictly in Tour Pro mode and I'm not sure I want anything that I perceive to be a power-up at that level of the game. I won't dis it until I've had a chance to try it for myself. Maybe there will be an option to simply turn Shot Focus off in Tour Pro mode?
I can see where this would spice up the game a bit in Amateur and Pro modes a bit more. It would certainly bring a little more course management and strategy into play, but I've never gotten into anything but Tour Pro mode.
Looking forward to the forthcoming blog entries, but this one really wasn't one that I expected to get too excited about before I read about it. I was relieved to learn that we won't have Putt Previews in Tour Pro mode. That was the best news I got out of today
You guys should read the entire thread....there is alot of good information being discussed about this feature. I am getting more and more excited about it for TOUR Pro. My understanding also is that you will have a choice in how you build your character attributes in TW11....IOW, when you want to add attributes, you can add them to one specific skill area if you like.
Are they getting rid of dynamic attributes ? I like the idea of the better you play, the better you get, or vice versa.. Being able to add attributes makes the game a lot easier and I want my play to decide it for me. If I know a course like Firestone is coming on the schedule in season mode, I shouldn't be able to add points to driving distance so I can reach 16 in 2.

Good suggestion Divot... it was from reading a response in the thread from another EA Developer, Christian Brandt, that Putt Previews would NOT be available in Tour Pro mode.

I'll have to see how this plays out before I can form an opinion on it that means something. At first reading, it seems like a dynamic strategy point, but I'm trying to find a real life analog for it and I can't so far.

Anthony paved the way for this being his next blog entry. From reading the achievements for the game, it sounds like TW 11 PS3/360 will be following something resembling TWO's leveling up model. I'll have to see how that possibility works in conjunction with the 11 attribute system.

More on Attributes coming in a near future blog and yes there are some changes that I think most of you will like.....
Sounds like they are making some good improvements, but I was hoping they would do away with tying attribute bonuses to items in the pro shop. From the blog it looks like they are still doing this (boo!).

Stay tuned for more on this and I think you will like the new direction they are going with the Pro Shop and Attributes....
I've been putting some scattered details together, trying to get an idea about what might be in store for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 (PS3/Move) owners, come October. Here's what I've been able to assemble... picture this:
1.) You're standing in your living room with gripping your Move with an overlapping or interlocking grip.
2.) You've got a real golf ball 2" inside your left heel as a visual aid with which to sight the invisible extension of the Move.
3.) Up on your 55" HDTV, you're looking down at your cyber golf ball from your cyber-golfer's virtual eyes as you're setting your address.
4.) You've got the game set for "True Aim" ; you're going to have to rely on your virtual golfer's line of sight, so you toggle the controller to take a quick look down the fairway and line up, with the perimeter of your aiming circle gnawing at you to play it a little safer than your Tiger Woods 10 mindset would have you.
5.) You address the ball again and start your backswing, looking down at your real golf ball at your feet, taking the Move back to your natural backswing stop position.
6.) You start your downswing trying to remain conscious of your swingpath, clubface angle, clubhead speed, and impact point. You keep your eyes fixed on the real ball until after you've made impact.
7.) Then you gaze up at the screen and watch as the ball ascends to the heavens on its way to its destination, but because you've selected "True View", you're not taken away from the golfer's perspective view early during its ascent. No, you continue to watch it after it's descent has ended before you're taken to a cut-view showing it come to rest.
8.) Once you've reached the green, you have to rely on your ability to read the topography of the green because you've opted to have the grids off. You've also opted for "meterless" putting, so you have to rely on your own tactile senses to excute the putting stroke with the desired line and speed.
9.) Finally, you watch your 20 foot putt as it begins it journey via your virtual golfer's, True View eyes, seeing every nuance of the break and the roll as it metriculates towards the hole. You can't quite see from the angle how close the ball is to the hole and you're wondering... did I give it enough? Suddenly, the ball is eclipsed by the hole as descends to the bottom of the cup..... could this vision really come to pass?
I'm not sure I like the idea of Shot Focus in tour pro mode. It could make for some very interesting decisions in the game, but I don't see how it is realistic. I'll keep an open mind on it though and see how it plays out.

I'm uncertain of what to think about Shot Focus in Tour Pro myself. I would be surprised if there isn't an option to turn it off. Then again, I would imagine that it will be on for Live Tournaments, so you'd be putting yourself at a disadvantage not to use it. I'll give it a chance though.
All the amateur players on the EA forums keep complaining about the shot focus system because they are afraid that it'll won't allow them to hole out or shoot 35 under par and that us Tour mode players are asking EA to change the game. Wait and play it first before you make any decisions , please. You never know anything until you play it.
I will be patient and see, but it does seem like EA is alienating a big group of players with this. The amateur levels don't want it and the tour pro crowd doesn't want it either. It seems like both groups know exactly what they want, and so far this seems like a departure from it for both. Tour pro players want no boosts, while amateur level players want all boosts. Honestly, who asked to change this?
I'm not totally against it, it could make for some interesting course management decisions. Do you use it to bomb a drive on a par 5 and go for eagle, or for that tricky par 4 (etc)? Still, I don't see how this is realistic at all. The only thing on tour pro is it may be so minor of an impact that it is not important.
