NHL 11 News Post

This was talked about in another topic, but thought it was worth posting.

It's just rumor at this point, but there's a few sources reporting it, so take it for what it's worth.

@dcmahiban on Twitter.

Quote:
"EA Sports NHL 2011 will have a #CHL mode where you can play with teams from the #WHL , #OHL and #QMJHL."

And BigPoppa17211 confirmed this guys claim from a Calgary radio sports broadcast.

Quote:
"Can't confirm your info there, but did read something interesting on Twitter last night.

Came from a radio guy in Calgary here. He said NHL 2011 will have a CHL mode where you can play as teams from the WHL, QJMHL, and OHL. Seemed really random and didn't want to start a thread here, but if spike is releasing info then the timing of this makes sense.

Here's hoping!"

From someone inside the London Knights organization.

(Official link is dead).

Quote:
"For those reading this you are going to hear about this before it is announced or before it is confirmed by EA Sports. I'll fill you in on how I came across this, I work in the marketing depart for the London Knights of the OHL it's through my college program and I've always liked the business side of the game so it's a way to get into that. Anyways when I showed up for work and there was an email forwarded to me from my boss saying that EA Sports needs pictures of our home and away jerseys with all different numbers and the C's and A's because the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL are all going to be part of NHL11 I debated putting part of the email up here but I don't wanna get fired if I get caught so I'm sure some of you won't believe until it becomes official but I thought I'd leak it to you guys first anyways. Personally I think it will make the Be A Pro better as well as the Be A GM where it will actually have right players coming up and just a lot more roster possibilities."

I realize these are all rumors from the internet, so it has to be taken with 4 scoops of salt. But this would be amazing if true and I'm hoping it gets confirmed (either way) soon.

IF this is true -- guess I'll know in a few weeks, eh? -- I'm not sure that they'll be able to include real players. While the pro/amateur line is blurred for the CHL, I'm fairly sure there is no player's association which would make image rights issues complicated. Unless the CHL owns individual image rights for current players... but now I'm trying to be a lawyer, which I'm most certainly not.

At any rate, even if they have fake players, you'd think we'd be able to edit them and someone -- hello mattg! -- would crank out a good roster eventually. We were able to edit the prospect teams this year, so that's a good sign... again, IF this is true.

How about finally adding Co-Op for Christs Sakes!

I am not excited about this. They already have European teams in the game and it's not like they add anything of any substance to the game.

Be a pro? Plus there's fans of the junior leagues.

Agreed. I think having the CHL is a dream come true for fans of Major Junior and as a big fan of BAP it adds a great level of depth (if implemented properly).

Does anyone think anyone besides the hardcore fan would use these? I guess comparing to the FIBA teams in the NBA games or the minor league teams in the baseball titles, does anyone really play with them outside of BAP or is that the intent?

Also, not sure if the story preview pic was posed, but pretty sly whoever chose it if that's what they were trying to do. Blackhawks C John Madden...who's number just happens to be 11...

I think it's more for BAP than anything else.
But just like the minor leagues in The Show, only hardcore fans will play as a junior team.
I don't know too many people that were playing exclusively as the Erie Seadogs.

Anyway, I'd love to play GM for the Spits. Your roster changes every 3 years, you have to draft well, etc. If given the proper attention I think I'd have far more fun running an OHL team than NHL.
Speaking of which, when running an AHL team it would be cool if you didn't have as much say about your roster. With players constantly being moved up to the big leagues or signing, it'd be kind of neat if the big club dictated your roster more often.

They really need ECHL, considering some of those teams are official farm teams of the NHL as well.

I use to really enjoy using the 1AA teams in the NCAA game years ago. So if more teams are being added for '11', it maybe something I'll be interested in.

I can't say this is very high on my priority list. But no complaints either.

awesome! I would love to see some of these ideas implemented. It would REALLY help BAP and GM mode hold my interest longer. Although, I am currently still playing both modes as they are and it is the end of April. If EA makes the game too good, we might not buy NHL 2012!! lol!

Like i said if it's done right it could be amazing if you could manage clubs at all levels and also move up through the juniors as a player.. but I doubt they could do all this in one dev cycle...

Unless you are from Europe. And junior hockey is pretty darn big in Canada. I get to at least one Erie Otters (OHL) game a year, often their traditional Thanksgiving night game since the in-laws live up there. If it's integrated into BAP and GM mode (preferably along with the Euro leagues to some extent), it could really cool.

But I agree with plaidchuck that it's a big undertaking and if they shoot for the moon in 11, there could be some bumps along the way...

EDIT: Almost forgot, IF this is even true!

being from Toledo, OH having the ECHL would be awesome as well

So all this really means to me is we'll have more uniforms to choose from.

to me it means a kazillion more generic faces in the game they need to focus on fixing the faces in the nhl league to many are generic and others do not look true to themself. and if they do not make the draft or scouting better with some kind off top 100 future prospect list so that we can scout players then adding those leagues means nothing to me.
Surprised no one mentioned that if they add juniors we can actually have a realistic draft. Even if they are generic names/numbers you can edit them (hopefully). Also you can keep guys you draft down in juniors instead of in the AHL. I'm probably in the minority but I get a lot of enjoyment out of playing with the European teams. I even play online with them against NHL teams. For me it just keeps the game fresh with all the variety of teams, much like FIFA.

Yeah but you can't utilize the Euro teams in BAP or GM so I just don't know what makes people think they'll let you do that with CHL teams.

I f'ing hope so. That'd be so sick to have CHL teams incorporated into BAP Mode!

It would be better then having play a prospect game then get drafted, starting from the CHL would give you time to get better.

CHL as Season Mode but not as GM Mode. The must then have a Bantam Draft. I don't think so that EA include this feature this year. Sure it would be awesome. I think the only think what possible is exchange the teams from NHL with CHL in GM Mode. It would be a great feature for BE a Pro.
