MLB 10 News Post

Have you ever wanted to work on a video game? Would you like the opportunity to get your foot in the door? Do you have an acute eye for details? Do you live and breath MLB The Show? If so continue reading.

How would you like to work on MLB The Show as a baseball specialist for 6 months? You must either live in the SD area or relocate for the six month contract. What am I doing for these six months you ask? Testing the game for the most part there will also be opportunities to give feedback on new features that are implemented in the game as well. However your main duties would be play testing the game and helping to make sure RTTS, Franchise mode, for example works the way its intended to. You would be located in the heart of the MLB development team where you skills and opinions would be used in a host of areas.

Why are we doing this? Well we have our reasons some more obvious than others. Most importantly it's very apparent to us and everyone else that regular/hardcore consumers play games differently than normal QA testers do its that simple really.

Who? You
What? MLB The Show baseball specialists program- You work with the development team as a super tester of sorts.
When? Starts in July/August and runs until November/January (time frame still being discussed.)
Where? San Diego Studios where MLB The Show is developed
How much? Yes this is a paid position

Anyone interested? There will be a normal application and screening process like any other profession in the game industry. We are just gauging interest and possible candidates at this point. Later on we will have a full job description with all the details if we decide to move forward with the program.

Questions? (I'll answer what I can)
P.S. Please do not pm me about this

Is there any chance this could be an internship possibility? I am only in High School, but I can't think of a better way to spend my summer than playing video games.

Thanks,
Adam

Would I need a degree in video game design (or something of that nature) for this position?

You can think of it as an internship but most internships don't pay you right? This is a paying position that lasts about 6 months I think its a great opportunity.

You just need a masters in MLB The Show if you know our game inside and out your already half way there. But make no mistake this is a very very serious project if it happens.

Since this is pretty much an OS Exclusive type deal if your posts counts, rep, and overall community clout aren't ridiculously high and you haven't been around here for a couple of years its going to be nearly impossible to even be considered and/or beat out senior members on the site.

I'm unaware of SCEA's hiring practices, so I don't know if they hire minors. In case they don't, this would be why I ask if it could be an internship (unpaid) opportunity that would give myself an incredible inside look into the field of video game design (Something that is invaluable for a student unsure of future college major plans).

This seems to eliminate me from the application process; however, I'd still like to commend SCEA on considering hiring valued gamers, am endeavor I believe will greatly improve this game.

Thanks and good luck in this process,
Adam

Yes, I live in SD, but I don't think I'm big enough in the community to stand a chance

You guys taking applications for a batting/pitching stance/motion mo-cap guy I could re-locate for 6mos. to do that!

# 17 TheLooseCannon @ 04/06/10 03:25 AM
Wow, this sounds great. I've been trying to get a job at SCEA San Diego for awhile now, and this job would be great for me to "get my foot in the door" as I work through my video game programming courses in college. I live in the SD area, and the thought of being to QA Test something I know and love already sounds like a dream, haha. I'll definitely be crossing my fingers hoping you guys go through with this!

# 18 Rickedycricket @ 04/06/10 04:16 AM
Ohh Mr. Russell I'm flattered and I do accept. Booking my ticket to sunny San Diego all the way from sunny Arizona!

# 19 DirtyCobra @ 04/06/10 06:17 AM
Are you kidding me?? This is the greatest opportunity a video game company has ever provided to its users. Talk about taking care of your customers. Fantastic!!! I applaud SCEA's commitment and dedication to their products.

One question: Is this available to people who live outside the USA or is this position strictly available to US residents only??

# 20 Bullit @ 04/06/10 07:19 AM
I would definitely be interested.
