MLB 10 News Post

Playstation.Blog has posted another MLB '10: The Show blog. This one detailing the catcher calling the game.

Quote:
"Hello again everyone. This is Eddy Cramm, Senior Designer for MLB 10: The Show, and I am here today to talk about the new Catcher Calling the Game feature. Catchy name, huh? Road to the Show, since its inception has been a very well received mode because it gives the gamer a very deep, realistic, and fun alternative to the traditional career mode. The mode allows you to create the guy you want to create, in the position you want him to play. Depending on the position that you choose, you will be asked to do different things in the field that are specific to your position. Last year, as we looked back on our game, there was one position we wanted to improve upon. That was the catcher."

I know what position my first RttS character will be

Thanks for the post.

The graphics even look better in the minors.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I think this mode will be fun for all of 15 minutes. To call every pitch of every game, but that's your only involvement (+ hitting, of course)? It seems to me your RTTS career would quickly turn into a marathon.

as a catcher you'd field bunts, popups, you'd throw out potential base stealers, as well as be involved in plays at the plate.

being a catcher IRL, each one of my RTTS players has been a catcher since 2007 :P

its finally nice to see a change in the way you play the position in-game

To make this new feature more exciting, I think I am going to turn up the CPU Base Stealing Frequency slider so I have more attempts to throw out base runners; I'm hoping this will add more excitement to the fielding aspect of the RTTS.

in 09, it seems like all runners with reasonable speed will try to steal off of you... thats how i find it anyways...

i usually have to throw to second 3 times a game

Well it's all about how you approach it of course. I think it's just up to how into pitching you are in the first place or managing games since it's the decisions you're trying to make that affect what's happening in the game. Or of course, if you just love the catcher position in the first place.

My appeal to it would stem from the fact that I usually create a pitcher for RTTS and would like to maybe get a chance to mix that with being an offensive force. To me anyways, if you love that feeling you get when you K a player or all the thinking that's involved for calling on what pitches are working between which ones you need, then you'd enjoy this mode. Maybe someone could explain why they'd want to use this position better.

I love the last line on the blog, "I hope you enjoy the new Catcher Calling the Game feature when it, and the rest of MLB 10 The Show hits shelves, March 2." I would love to enjoy sounds of the show on March 2nd too guys.

It was never promised. He simply said to look for it around then. The developers have better things to do then create these blogs, but they do them so we can get a sneak peak of the game beforehand. Lets just enjoy what they show us, and if worst comes to worst, you can get your music together when the game comes out.

Jim I know how to use sounds of show in the game. What I'm saying if they are allowing music for walks, I would like to know this. That way before the game is out I can have Respect by Aretha, or Walk This Way by Run DMC already downloaded. If we wait until release date then I gotta go download those songs, but I'm saying why not put a blog up with the list of in game situations that way I can already have those songs downloaded. I thought that was common sense Jim, but I guess not for you.

LOL...I didn't realize the game released tomorrow.

You still have two weeks until the release. If there is going to be a Sounds of the Show blog, I'm pretty sure it will up before the game's release. And even if there isn't a blog, there will be fellow OS'ers that have the game early, I'm sure they will answer your question.

as I said in my edited post(not sure why it didn't show up before)...there will be fellow OS'ers that will have the game early, I'm sure they will be able to answer your question in regards to Sounds of the Show.

Have patience man...no reason to be demanding of SCEA or insulting other members simply because you're not getting what you want.

Already downloaded em...but still would like to know what's what so I can download more of something, and less of another.

in an effort to right this ship....the one thing that bugged me about the blog was that it sounded as if the pitcher will always throw what you call. I know he can shake you off, but if you call it again, he will throw that pitch. Would like to see the pitcher throw what he wants from time to time.

# 19 Eman5805 @ 02/16/10 06:48 PM
I wonder if he'll use the approriate hand signs for where he wants the ball, set the target in a more exact spot, and for the low, almost in the dirt pitches, will the catcher's glove be positioned right? I mean, before he'd be reaching with the palm down like he's picking up a ball straight off the ground, and the ball would clip through the glove.

Either way, now I can FINALLY enjoy creating a catcher. Just a couple weeks away, man.

As far as the pitcher shaking off your signs, this would be cool to have implemented.

Let's say you call fastball, but the pitcher wants to throw his curveball, so he shakes you off. But you call the fastball again, and the game "makes him" accept it. Let's say he throws it and the batter swings and misses for a strikeout. Next time you call a pitch the pitcher maybe doesn't want to throw, he should be more likely to not shake you off.

Likewise, if you "force" him to pitch something he doesn't want, and the batter jacks it, he should start shaking you off more.

This could also tie into how much expierence you have as a catcher, and how much the pitcher trusts you

Just some ideas
