NCAA Basketball 11 News Post

After all the rumors, it has become official.

Source: Gameinformer - EA Sports Confirms NCAA Basketball Benching

Quote:
"Looking over the list of list of Electronic Arts titles planned for release during the next fiscal year, one sports franchise is notably absent. Today EA Sports senior director of communications David Tinson confirmed that NCAA Basketball has fouled out of the lineup. “We do not have an NCAA Basketball game in development at this time, and we’re currently reviewing the future of our NCAA Basketball business," he said. "This was a difficult decision, but we remain a committed partner to the NCAA and its member institutions.”

Tinson also told Game Informer that the move to shut down NCAA will not result in another round of layoffs. Instead, the development team has been integrated into other projects. EA Canada still has two basketball games in development, with NBA Live and the recently announced resurrection of NBA Jam."

Now us Big 10 fans are going to be stuck with the most inaccuracies of any of the major BCS conferences.

My school, the University of Minnesota won't have the correct uniforms, or an accurate depiction of Williams Arena.

Ohio State will be stuck with the floor they haven't used for about 4 years

Wrong uniforms for Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois. All of which have been incorrect for at least 2 years.

Wrong floors for Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota (altough that was new this year.)

The same problems that have been in this game for years looks like will live on forever, damnit. I was hoping some of this stuff would eventually get fixed, I guess not though.

Terrible confirmation......

To say they still have two games! Live and stupid, and terrible on 1 console NBA Jam, isn't considered two games.

All they have is Live 10. NBA Jam is going to bomb big time, from everything I've seen and read, it's crap! And Wii exclusive was a bad idea. I mean even as a PSN or XBL game would have been more profitable.

Farewell NCAA BB series, now I have a million reasons to be angry at EA Canada! And the suits at EA Sports have officially pissed me off to new heights!!!

This is wonderful news. The door is begining to open.College basketball deserves an accurate representation. Its not like EA's latest offering was as bas as the year before. However it was very clear their heart was just not in it.If it takes a couple years to get a decent title then so be it.

I agree, I hope some other company(or companies) decides to make a college basketball game. Although I don't know how likely that is, since it's obviously not financially successful with the way it's been dropped by two companies in the past 3 years. I mean I really liked NCAA 10, but EA did not support it at all, and that's why I'm glad they're canceling it. There was no way I was ever buying another EA basketball game after that.

I can't see why anybody would be happy about this. This means that we won't be seeing a new college basketball title in quite a while, since 2K is not at all interested in developing another College Hoops.

its not wonderful news. its a sad day for sports gaming.

I should probably clarify my post. I'm happy about it if another company decides to make a college basketball game. If no other company decides to make one, then it sucks for the people who were looking forward to another EA college basketball game, but I wouldn't even give it a look becuase of the lack of support on 10.

Ea still owns the exclusive NCAA basketball license, as has we have been over in many threads. There is no chance of seeing any college basketball game next year unless something changes.

nope its still great news.I would rather not see one> then see a 1/2 *** one every year. Its always good news when any company acknowledges its
inability to make a decent product that meets expectations while sustaining a profit.A capable , efficient more drivin development team should be able to take advantage of this ever growing "niche"market.

It is unlikely another College basketball game will ever be created... or should I say one that will be a true sim. I can see perhaps a limited game with the big schools and maybe just a tournament style game. The category is too small. Face it, unlike NCAA Football, College basketball only gets exciting during tournament time for the majority of people. In fact, most people who watch the March Madness Tournament have never seen a game during the season.

I wish this would of happend 2 years ago.We may of seen a better product by now.Releasing a flawed game while maintaining the exclusive rights.
Dose not benifit anyone.Give it up EA. Focus your attention on NBA JAM.

seriously dude, it does not make a difference who has the License, no one will make a College hoops game for the foreseeable future. Remember when 2k decided that a College basketball game was not profitable enough so they canned their game, it was only then EA decided to buy the license which is not a shock.

If 2k and EA do not create a College hoops game, then no one will.

My point was ..that it may take 2-3 years.

That's utterly ridiculous. First off, I think we'll see an NCAA basketball sim again someday. Conditions are always changing and it is unwise to predict that something won't happen again. As for most March Madness viewers not watching regular season games, that is complete crap. While there are a quite a few casual observers, I would bet that most people who watch the tournament have an extended interest in college basketball.

I still think that this will be a test for EA to see if more of their games can go every other year such as Fight Night and now College Basketball.

More powerful consoles, less sports games. Is this trend going to continue in the future?

Does anyone think someone would create rosters for next year's NCAA season come next fall for use in NCAA 10?

One would think that if EA doesn't put out a college basketball game the contract might be null...

Regardless, I agree that it's a sad day. I'm not expecting 2k to jump back in anytime soon - they'd face the same problems EA is leaving behind.

I'd be suprised if that happened because you can't edit the players class(fr,so, etc.). For exhibitions the rosters would be fine, but in dynasty they'd be useless.
