MLB 10 News Post

Gamespot wraps up its week of MLB '10: The Show with this final article on odds and ends.

Quote:
"I'm a Generic Pitch 38 kind of guy. I spent most of my time with last year's MLB 09 using my created Road to the Show pitcher, so I've learned the tricks to keep things moving. After all, even when you're playing as a starting pitcher and getting on the mound once every four or five days, the baseball season is a long slog. You take your shortcuts where you can get them, and in the case of a pitcher, that means shortening your windup as much as possible. Forget the seemingly eternal delivery of a guy like Chan Ho Park--when time is at a premium, I'm looking for the fastest delivery possible."

Here's to hoping that means there are 70 generic batting stances. Jim said there were 108, but I'm guessing that was for both pitching and batting combined.

For the rest of the us, couple delicate timing, necessary fielding ratings, and the improved ball physics and it's entirely possible to recreate Canseco's famous "ball off the noggin'" outfield gaffe from 1993, when Jose was playing outfield for the Texas Rangers and a ball hit by the Indians' Carlos Martinez bounded off Canseco's head and into the stands for a home run. If it happens to you, I expect to see the video.

Yes, that was something they changed at community day. I mentioned it in my write up. There's collision detection enabled on HR and Foul balls now with the players.

How the heck do you get that out of that quote?

He is taking jim's "108 battings stances" and subtracting 38 (that is the # of the particular generic pitching stance referred to in this article) and coming up with what he hopes is 70 batting stances.

Meaning he thinks that jim's 108 was batting and pitching stances combined. 108 -38 = 70

NOW....Blzer, bro....please...you have got to find a way to not over analyze every. single. thing. in life. It is truly remarkable.

You should have taken jim's "108 generic batting stances" as just that. One hundred and eight generic batting stances. This was confirmed by Russell (well, over 100 anyway) in this thread.

You got too smart for your own good on this one.

Oh, I just hoped that it wasn't "advertising talk" when they said 108 stances in the game. Some people consider pitching windups as "pitching stances," so I was just hoping for the best but planning for the worst. Good thing we got the best!

EDIT: Oh, I see you were referring to me talking about the article. Well, PhantomPain seems to have answered it.

And PP, again I was just planning for the worst here. I don't want to fall into thinking something and having too much expectation. Sounds like they got it down pat though!

SECOND EDIT: Ah, sounds like I misread and/or misremembered anyway. It looks like jim416 did indeed say there were 107 generic batting stances. I must be getting old.

The ball physics sounds very cool.... can't wait to see the game in motion

More good news for fielding!!

They mentioned Scout Now and did not clarify a big point, last year It gave you a list of games matching your criteria of options but took forever to get in games as so many rooms were dominant as the person was not there or It would take forever for the person to respond to your request to play him. I hope It just automatically puts the person in a game automatically instead of the other person having to accept ur challenge.

What are you talking about?

"I'm a Generic Pitch 38 kind of guy."

Laughed so hard at this writer talking about picking the fastest pitching motion to save a few seconds per game. Guess it's a good idea though, it'll add up quick on how much time you save!

Not much there unless you are an rtts player.
