MLB 2K10 News Post

2K Sports has just posted another Major League Baseball 2K10 Developer Insight. This one features MLB Today.

Quote:
"The MLB Today screen has several sub-pages of stats from the real life Major League Baseball that you guys watch and love. It’s like having your favorite sports website integrated into your Internet-connected console playing your MLB 2K10 game. The main view shows you the starting pitcher for each team and two other key players for the game you have highlighted. Other sub-pages include a team leaders page, a team comparison page and a yesterday’s scores page. The team comparison page shows the current series results, which team their next series is against, and team performance info such as “BA of .308 over the last 6 games”. And if that’s not enough, from the MLB Today screen, you can access the MLB Today nav screen and access box scores, player stats, team stats and league standings. All this data will be real-world Major League Baseball data from the 2010 and previous seasons.

Awesome, right? But that’s just the start. Now that your game and your league are synched up, the door is thrown open for dynamic commentary and presentation that’s based on what’s happening in the real Major League Baseball. Throughout the season you’ll experience intelligent commentary that not only keeps you informed on the ACTUAL latest league happenings, but also keeps track of your team info as well. Examples include knowing your team just swept a three game series, knowing your third baseman went off for five hits and a couple bombs in the road win against the Dodgers Thursday night and that he’s hitting a cool .313 this season, knowing this is the first of a four game series between the two teams, and that your season series stands at an even 4-4."

The only thing is how it's going to match up with the stats/standings and such.

In NBA2K....I get some funky lines about stats(including the 0 points one for guys that haven't been in the game)....so hopefully they have that worked out well.

Blzer...I know what you mean..it does sound stunted in some cases....robotic almost.
Again..I hope they implement it a little better in MLB2K.
It's a nice start though.(NBA....MLB...TBD )

It's pretty good stuff.
Even with this...you hear some repeated commentary....but it is this kind of thing I love....dynamic to your franchise...incorporating events in "your world".
Very cool.

Heck...even with no manage only mode for 2K10...I might just do some GM stuff....and let the games go CPU vs. CPU to see how this franchise and MLB Today content works out.

Nice job!

Thanks for the explanation

I really thnk though with all the data splits avaiable in the MLB & so many match ups that we will hear as much repaeated as NBA 2K htough. IMO
I am really looking forward to this.

"So, the commentators will discuss the career and season splits for most pitchers and batters in the game. The commentators now have the knowledge of what’s happening league-wide and will reference the most up-to-date information possible in their conversations. But it’s not just talk (there will be a future Insight that dives deeper into the commentary, so look out for that soon): a lot of the topics the commentary team will discuss have overlays that coincide with their analysis."

I'm looking forward to the insight he mentioned about the commentary. With Gary THorne in there, this is going to sound so nice. 2K has done it again with presentation. They have this ability to catch those important dynamics that just raise the bar. If you couple this with realtime presentation...I just can't imagine how nice it would be.

And on a side note, with these insights and the recently 1M dollar game announced, they have really improved their marketing.

Considering how amazing this was in NBA 2K10, I would have to say 2K has struck again in the commentary and presentation department. If you couple this with potential success with franchise mode and supposed improved gameplay, I have to admit I am pretty pumped for some videos.

Is the MLB Today only available to people with XBOX Live? Cause I don't have Live.

Probably, but if you play franchise mode then you'll have your own updated stats anyway.

Yeah. You gotta be connected to the internet.

Love the dynamic commentary it brought to NBA 2k10 during my franchise. I really enjoy this feature.

Too bad I am only buying 1 game and MLB2K10 will not be the one

That other game needs a major overhaul of the play by play!

I get so tired of hearing things like "What are you waiting for swing all ready"
This forum doesn't need posts like this. Please stick to the topic.

I'll tell you what, I sincerely hope the servers stay up with MLB unlike with NBA. This is a great feature that, once it does not work, makes you annoyed because it is pretty enjoyable.

There was bad server problems with this type of set-up for basketball?

Yes, stability was an issue. It was down for about a week around Christmas. Perhaps they were overloaded but I know of many who could not connect at all because of it.

I didn't get the crash problem.
Is that because I usually stayed within my own franchise?
I did get some funky stat mentions though.
