MLB 2K10 News Post

2K Sports has posted their Major League Baseball 2K10 MLB Developer Insight, which focuses on community efforts.

Quote:
"2K10 marks a huge year for the Major League Baseball 2K series: It’s the 10th anniversary of the franchise and the second release after famed developer Visual Concepts brought the series completely in-house. It’s important that we continue to build a foundation for the years to come and that the developers, who work so hard on making our sports games the best simulation titles on the market, speak with our most important advocates: you, the 2K Sports Community. After our success with this program for NHL and NBA 2K10, we are proud to bring a whole new level of information to our MLB Community with the MLB Developer Insights."

It should be noted that both developer names mentioned in this article (Alan and Matt) have worked on the NBA 2K series, NFL 2K5 and EA's MVP baseball series.

Also, I thought 2K was out of hand with the ads last year until I saw the State Farm ads in the real new Yankee stadium.

Good point. I just googled Alan Blouin's name and found out that he worked on many of the MVP games by EA. Let's hope he has influence beyond just the art department.

Great news about the development team. Afterall, the NBA 2K, NFL 2K and MVP series are iconic in their respective sports.

Fingers crossed!

I think at best they bring experience to the table. I doubt, and even wouldn't want to see them involved in anything other than Art Design. If people are being stretched too thin, the chances of the game lacking increases.

It's just good to know that people are in place that have the know how and experience.

Totally agree DaveDQ. Especially the stretching of talent piece.

As for the Insight, If Alan & Matt used the same tech used for NBA 2K10 (Image Metrics) we are definitely gonna see a graphical upgrade to the Players. Which can only enhance how the game looks as 2K already has great Player Models.

Here's an excerpt from the NBA 2K10 Art Direction Insight:

I want to first get into what makes our graphics more innovative than ever: Image Metrics. Before this year, we only used a maximum of 3 different blend shapes per head, which would limit the type of emotion you see on the players’ faces. The end result had the players looking more robotic than human when running around or even in doing simple actions such as blinking. Now, with the help of Image Metrics the facial animation goes beyond what we’ve ever been able to capture before. An actor is actually recorded with a camera connected to their face to capture how facial muscles work and better document a facial animation. Now, simple animations such as blinks are not so much just moving the eyelids, but rather the cheekbones, muscles, and so much more. We took it a step further and sent Image Metrics the actual NBA footage of the players with signature expressions and signature intros, so that way we actually have the facial animation to match the body animation.

I hope 2k come through this year. I am optimistic about it. Last year was the first year I didn't purchase 2k9 (I was a 360 owner and 2k Fan) because of everything I read on these boards and all the issues that came along with the game. I hope they pull it together this year so I can purchase both baseball games. I just hate how we get limited info but that is how it goes.

From Ron's twitter page:

"MLB 2K10 is about to pick up. The rest of this week should be really great!"

I think we may have the first Insight tomorrow!

That's good to hear. We are only seven weeks away from release and still have nothing.

He didn't say may have. He actually didn't mention it. Auston Organs just added that.

I added it out of quotation marks. It was my own comment. It says Wednesday in the Insight?
