NBA 2K10 News Post

Since everyone -- at least on the Xbox 360, sorry PS3 users you all have to wait a bit longer -- is just beginning to dig into the post-patch version of NBA 2K10, I thought it would be good to look at what this patch is addressing and what could still be addressed if there is another patch down the line. (Of course, I am assuming that everything in the patch actually fixes what is promised.)

So here are some NBA 2K10 patch hits and misses.

At least the cpu doesn't throw as many oops as last year. In reference to the over the back calls, I have seen around 2 of those fouls called per game....it was on myplayer mode. I haven't even really touched the real game since the patch except for an online game with a Celtics cheeser

Like some of you stated, I prefer solid graphics, game-play, stats and mechanics over anything else. I could care less that some players wear "bobos"
This couldn't be any farther from the truth. Alot of people make comments or want the accessories to be correct for a more authentic look. They want the NBA video game to look like the actual NBA. Say for instance you are a Heat fan and you follow thier every game. You know that the only wear black headbands and only black accessories. You turn on your NBA 2K10 and see players running around with red headbands and things on and it doesn't represent what is actually on the court. That is not an accurate representation of the Miami Heat. It has nothing to do with maturity it's about making the game have as authentic of a look as possible.

I wouldn't say that it's a maturity thing. I'm 29 years old and I watch basketball frequently and after I watch a game (or playing while I'm watching) I want to play the game and then when I do play the colors don't match. It's like seeing a bug on the wall. You know it's not relevant but it gets on your nerves. Shoes and socks and all that don't bother me but it's the headbands that does cuz it's apart of the uniform that is SUPPOSE to match the jerseys.

The author borrows a 360 to play the game, that's how he is aware of patch. He owns the PS3 version but has borrowed his friends 360.

Do u guys really get over the back calls? I see more fouls in a hole, and its clearly better than pre-patch, but I have yet to see an over the back. Playing normal season mode by the way.

I got three in one game once since the patch dropped.

This article was way to short. Seems like they shoudl have taken the patch notes directly from 2k, and expounded upon each note.

Then how could you even write this if you really haven't played the patch yet?

"The pick and roll – As I touched on earlier, the pick and roll has been unbalanced for quite a while. The addition of more deflected passes in the paint may tone down its effectiveness somewhat, but I would have to play the game at length before saying its toned down overall."

Yet, it's a miss?

After only a couple of games, you can see that not only deflect more passes, but a defender will sometimes rotate to help on the cutter, and the switch will happen quicker (not have 2 players on the ball). This has helped defending PnR immensely. The only thing they need to do now is to not make the pass so perfect even if the onball defender is right in the passing lane. It's still a video game in that respect.

Same. I've seen it enough to even catch a bug.

The maturity argument is that even though it bugs you, it shouldn't make you so irate, that you call for people's job and that is what some people here on the forums have been doing. It's one thing to point out those things, but to be belligerent about is absolutely a maturity thing.

Seems too early for this type of article - think it came out a day after the patch. In reading it seems like some of the comments come off as an overview of the patch release notes, then there are definitive "this doesn't work the way it should" statements. Don't see the need for such scrutiny when the patch had been barely given time to breath and issues ferreted out

# 36 Pared @ 11/10/09 11:30 AM
I retract my early statement. I figured this sort of thing wouldn't be written on speculation and would actually come based upon experience of the patch, especially with a title like "hits and misses."

My apologies. You can't write an article like this and not specify it's based on speculation.

fix the contact like 6 to 7 ft from the basket....i full on contact on a shooter is a ******** animation that far from the hoop it should be called a foul everytime the concept behind this is great but in actuallity for it to work it needs physics on weight ,motion and size ,not animations
and with physics in mind 6'8" Lebron James on the break shouold not go into a bounce back animation after being fronted by the likes of Steve Blake
IMO there is only 3 things Blake can do with the king coming full steam towards him 1.get the hell out of the way
2. (God for bits he actualy tries this) try to take a charge
3 try to fould by grabbing onto James and hang on for dear life
cause he might even still take little Blake for a fly on flight 23
the ability to have mis-matches on smaller diffenders in terms of the ability to shoot right over em for some reason a smaller defender can yeild the same results as a same size or bigger defender on a shooter

I agree with both of your points. The "under-the-basket" contact extends just a little too far out for my tastes. And secondly, I've definitely gotten lucky with that "bounce back" animation when I should have instead floored whoever stood in front of me.

My miss from the patch would be the minuscule problem with headband "whitening" on rosters before 10/22. The rosters I've been throwing together with nearly 100 players all of the sudden look a lot less legitimate. Other than that though, I've been pleased with all the other changes. I'll happily exchange headband color for the ability to use retired jersey numbers.

Excellent post. Both games have this wrong and i've been saying the exact same thing.
