Madden 2010 News Post

Gamespot has posted their first look at Madden Ultimate Team, a free Madden NFL 10 add-on, coming in January.

Quote:
"I'd like to take complete credit for Madden Ultimate Team, but I know better than that. Ever since the From the Bleachers days--heck, ever since EA Sports released its collectible card feature back in UEFA Champions League 2006-2007--I've been clamoring for just such a card feature to make its way to other EA Sports games, and I've hardly been alone in that regard. Soon, those requests will be answered with Madden Ultimate Team, an upcoming feature update to Madden NFL 10 that mixes trading card collecting with fantasy football. And best of all? It's free."

This may be just enough to revive this game for me by the time it comes out. I dig it.

Now I have a reason to keep Madden. I loved this feature in FIFA last year.

It was already reported earlier in the thread that the Ultimate Team is different than the Madden Development, per Ian on Twitter.

So, I don't see what the two have in common.

This is something I might give a whirl on. I don't understand others who haven't tried it, start knocking it, though.

I wonder how online games work: do we play only other "ultimate teams?'. If so, do we get an "ultimate team" ladder or something? I'll never even try this if there's no ranking feature or anything and its just team building on your own. It could be a pretty fun concept. Imagine leagues where you have teams like this.

It seems like the teams will always be fairly balanced since players lose their "contracts" after so many games, so you'll never run into an all pro team... which is what came to mind when I first saw the feature, instead it seems like you'll always face something relatively balanced... which is good.

It is nice to see that this will be a free feature...Not quite sure how it all works just the basics...Not sure if I will actually use unless its an automatic thing

That's totally up to you and your opinion. Personally, I don't know if I will try this or not, but I'm not going to knock what I haven't tried.

Free for now Can we get "Almost, Online Franchise Mode" fixed now ? I mean, it should be easy to do with server side patches right?

Sounds like a cool idea, and FREE is always good.

I've seen this in several places, and I kinda laugh when people say "who plays football after January or when the season is over?" Well, football fans do. Casual fans wouldn't, but people who love football never stop.

Hey Guys,

This is my first post because I think that I can contribute to this conversation. I am an avid Madden and Fifa player. And my experience with FIFA 09 UT was great. It adds playability to the game far after the season is over.

I had put FIFA away last year for about two months when they rolled out UT. It was an amazingly fun and competitive experiece to build a team up from the terrible starter pack into whatever style of play you most enjoy. At first I wanted to create the greatest soccer team ever to walk the earth. I played tons of games offline (the easiest way to gain coins to buy card packs) and online (testing my team against the world) to build an international powerhouse. Then, after time ruling the FIFA UT world with my "Dream Team", I switched it up and decided to make an all American team with 100 chemistry. Again adding a new dimension to the game and increasing its playability. When FIFA UT came out I never went back to any of the other game modes. FIFA UT was well worth the $10 I payed for the download and I woul have payed $10 or more for Madden UT if EA charged for it.

Another point, the article says that FIFA 10 dropped UT. Not true. They just haven't released it yet for download. UT was hugely popular last year and it will be released again at a predtermined time after the actual game release. This is a game mode designed to get gamers to stick with a game. Thus, the January release date for Madden 10.

I recommend everybody giving it a try, you may not find it as great as I thought FIFA UT was, but with the Free price tag, what do you have to lose. And believe me, you have a lot to gain. Sorry for the long post...

"Players have the opportunity to use real world money"

In other words, put this in for free and if they can get 1 out of 20 to spend some real cash--cha-ching.

I'm not knocking people for liking this but it is just a more subtle way to make a few more bucks imo. It doesn't require a lot of work and the money can add up quickly with people giving EA 50 cents here or a dollar there.

If you ever want to see another NFL game, do not give EA those additional funds.

I agree with this sentiment. I never pay in game "micocharges" because I believe that it will just encourage EA to put more of them in. But if Madden UT is like FIFA UT, you can enjoy and succeed in this game mode without paying for card packs.

Who knows what experience the UT has? I'll take the Fox/CBS braodcast because I know Madden won't have ESPN.

Things that are out of my control or knowledge, I don't concern myself with.

To all of you saying things like spend more time on this and that, from Ian's C's twitter:

"To beat everyone to the questions -- Madden Ultimate Team is not taking resources from main Madden dev team, it's a separate team"

Hope this helps some of you guys.
